Domonic Brown Set for Rehab Assignment Wednesday

Domonic Brown is nearly ready for a return.

According to our own minor league reporter Jay Floyd, the Phillies top prospect will begin a rehab assignment on Wednesday with the Clearwater Threshers.

The 23-year-old prospect has been out since early March with a broken hamate bone in his right hand. He had surgery to fix the problem on March 8.

If Brown is able to swiftly return to form, he could be an option for a struggling Phillies offense. The only question is; will the Phillies keep him in the minors or bring him back to the majors where he struggled late last season?

    Great news.
But please. No matter how bad the offense is struggling. Do not rush him up.
Wait till he is settled in and hitting before calling him up.
We dont need to bash his confidence.

Keep him in the Minors for a while. They changed his stance he apparently changed it back. He had no Spring Training an the changes back in his stances is probably going to set him back a little besides the obvious injury. Let him get some playing time down there.

The Bacardi may be flowing tonight as I am watching the Flyers and the Phillies in a nice double header. Really the best kind of all. If they both win.

In extended spring training action today, Brown went 4-for-5 with TWO homers.

But i hope it doesnt tempt fans or management to want him to come up too soon.

Id say 2 and half to 3 weeks minimum.

Ruben and his boys have to be itching to get him back. It’s human nature to want a guy like Brown to come up here and rake. Although it may not be the right move, I wonder if its a move they’ll ponder.

Oh they are pondering and let there be a few more shut outs while hes hitting homers. They will really be pondering. But hes a kid have to think about the long term and future. god teams always think down the road more than the right now.

This is happy news. Hopefully Brown’s rehab will go well, whether it is in the minors or not. We need his bat in the lineup, but not at the expense of his confidence and health.

Excellent news, I trust them to bring him along at the best pace for him and the team.

but 4-5 is a hell of a start!

No. Get him up and lead him off. He has a good eye and a good OBP. Leading him off will have him concentrate on looking at pitches and hitting the ball where its pitched while not putting any pressure on him to hit the ball out of the park. For those reasons, I think it would suit him and the Phils well. Move BenFran to LF.

Switch Rollins and Shane against lefties.

Can’t wait to see him playing every day… I know that he has holes in his swing but he’s a stud. He’s got power and he has hit for a high average at every level but I’m most excited about what he can bring defensively… he has a cannon. I think if/when his promotion comes it means that someone is losing a job… I said this before, he can provide the spark we need. Let Utley heal and give Dom a chance.

Brown has never been what I would consider an OBP guy — i.e. there has never been much separation between his batting average and his OBP. That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing him on the big club in the very near future.
