Philadelphia Phillies (31-19) at New York Mets (23-26)

Roy Oswalt (3-2, 2.77 ERA) vs. Chris Capuano (3-5, 5.36 ERA)

Here’s a bit of cool news. The hat Wilson Valdez wore during the Phillies 19 inning win against the Reds on Wednesday night – the win that Wilson Valdez got for them by throwing 1 inning in relief – is headed to Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Congrats to Wilson, that’s a pretty incredible honor. Now onto the game…
Uh-oh, a lefty. The Mets will send Chris Capuano to the mound to try and toy with the Phillies, a team that looks to be on the brink of a nice explosion on offense. Capuano has struggled this season, but has tamed lefties, keeping them to a .630 OPS.
That could mean bad things for Utley, Howard, and Rollins. Or, it might not. Either way, enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend!
PHILLIES LINEUP:
Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Polanco 3B, Howard 1B, Francisco RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Mayberry CF, Oswalt P
Your Gameday Beer – Corona Light
We’ll be enjoy Corona Light’s all weekend long on the beach and we soak up the rays and wait for the Phillies game to start. That’s livin’ right there. Corona light is surprisingly smooth and won’t fill you up. Most beer advocates look down upon Corona, but I’m of the many that believe it’s a great beer. I’d much rather drink it than Miller or Bud – but that’s just me. Enjoy the weekend! – By Pat

Was expecting Utley to sit.
He seems to be making a difference even if hes not hitting yet.
I like the move
I need to enjoy Wheeler tonight.
As I have Tim McCarver tomorrow night.
Already dreading it

I wish people would stop putting Lidge on the list of injuries like its a hardship.
The Phillies have benefited from his not being able to play.
No doubt about that.

Also I sat Reyes in favor of Jed Lawrie tongiht at SS
Thinking/ hoping Reyes will struggle vs Oswalt
Wheeler just mentioned the jersey shore. He cracks me up
I wish he had a reality show. Be so much better than that reality show they had on the phils pen a few years ago.

Cy Capuano is dealing
Whats the all time strikeout record?
Youd think the Braves and Marlins would start hoarding mediocre LH pitching just to play in the 18 games vs the Phils.

AFW, in the earlier post today about disdain for the Muts or the Braves, I left out 1969.

The Media always builds up NY things
Youd still think 86 and 69 ertr the 2 greatest championships ever
I prefer to think about how they have never had a no shitter and traded away Nolan Ryan
And Cone and Gooden throwing no nos for the Yankees

I typed shitter
and it was an accident i swear
Ibanez home and road splits are amazing.
like he cant see on the road or something
2 RBI on the road 23 at home
when its better than 10-1 somethings going on.
Literaly on the road he is the worst player in baseball and at home an MVP candidate

Mayberry has deserved these last 8 starts

I think 69 was the absolute worst actually. How could the upstart Jets beat the Colts who basically won that year by just showing up?
How could the Mets, who came from nowhere win the WS from one of the greatest teams every (the 69 O’s were 109-53 that year)?
Burned in my mind forever, first bets I ever placed and my first lossess.
That streak by Ibanez has to be an anomole – with a man on 3rd an nobody out – we have got to score here.

It seems to me that Ryan Howard needs to sit this one out. Let Gload take over first base tonight.

its amazing how an error kills you. roy was going along great then that. with two outs the pitcher holds a little anger inside. loses focus. you can tell. then the run. amazing.

What’s going on PN!
Late as usual on Friday.
I couldn’t hear much on the radio due to thunderstorms. How the f could Chase and Jimmy collide?
Feel bad for Gary Carter, I hated his ass as a player, but this is awful.

Very bad news for Carter
A gamer.
A great catcher. A true hall of famer. Probably top 5 all time
I am sure Piazza sports a better WAR though

Actually Carters WAR is 66 to Piazza 60
They got it right in a way. Kinda
But there is no way piazza was 90% of Carter. Actually those of us who watched both of thier careers would say they dont even belong in the same sentence or discussion

Unless there is another dropped pop up.
Reyes didnt run out the one Chase dropped and ended up only on first.

I read about Conaway, he’s the guy saying s-l-o-w d-o-w-n right?
This is not good, 10 hits for the Mets, and their best (surprising) young prospect up
