It was hot and sunny at Nationals Park in Washington D.C., the Phillies home away from home, as thousands of fans made the trek down I-95 to watch them beat the Nationals, 5-4.

Roy Halladay struggled, giving up three solo home runs, but against finished with a quality start, giving up just those three run over seven innings for his seventh win of the season.

Raul Ibanez and Ryan Howard each homered and knocked in a pair of runs, while Domonic Brown hit for the fifth straight game, knocking in a run of his own.

Ryan Madson came on and closed out the ninth inning for his 12th save of the season.

Chase Utley stole his second base of the season, but was lifted in the ninth for Wilson Valdez. Presumably, this is not injury related.

After the game, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly reported that Vance Worly was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The Phillies do have a Thursday off day, so they could be going with just the four starters after.A corresponding move will be made on Tuesday.

Hope you all are having a fantastic Memorial Day. Phils win, Phils win!

Halladay gave up 4 ER, but still nice to see the offense back him up to get the win. Btw, the font you guys use for your headlines to each blog post have got to go, it’s way overdone. It looks good when it’s just “Phillies” but using it for entire sentences and such just doesn’t have the same effect, and some of these headlines just look AWFUL and difficult to read using that font (not this one in particular, but others have). Just a suggestion, though, take it for what it’s werth.

Of course it’d be much easier if I could just disable it showing that custom font on my end. If that’s even possible at all.

Type font complaints, . . . really? How about kudos for content?
While I agree the headlines look a little goofy, if you are that hung up on fonts that you must make your own, wouldn’t some really effective pharma for OCD be even better?

I mean suggestions are such a horrible thing, really. Heaven forbid anyone ever make any suggestions. Guessing you never heard of the idea of site feedback. God forbid I actually make a suggestion, that’d just be wrong.

I agree. I complain about this a lot, but the font is pretty bad. There’s a few other issues I have with site styling, but that one is definitely the worst. At this point, someone calls it out almost every other thread. I feel like that’s pretty much cause to change it, or at least give the option to change. There already exists a user database (presumably), so give the option to pick a font family for each user.

This game should be more about the Offense an comeback than Roy today. Im surprised they sent Worley back down with out giving him another start. It would be interesting what the Phils will do once Shane comes back. Who get sent down who stays will anyone be released. This is going to be a tough tough decision. Although Worley been sent down makes room for Shane. Assuming Dom Brown becomes the Star he is projected to. If the Phils can pry Pence from the Astros. We could have Shane, Dom Brown an Pence. What an outfield to have. I think if any moves will be made it will be a decsion between Martinez, Ben Fran an Mayberry.

I suppose conventional wisdom would be to let Marty go back to the gnats by Rule 5, but I do like wearing Pedro’s old jersey and claiming it is for a current Phil. I did get busted by the number on the jersey once..

I have been told numerous times they are working on how the site functions and looks.

    Suggestions arent bad.

Todays game is about how bad the Nats are.

I listened to some of the Nats post game calls with Phil Wood this afternnon. Nats fans calling in and crying. Him explaining to them that the two teams arent even or close at all. The Phillies are built to win a WS the Nats still building. Really they are working on locker room and franchise atmosphere and expectations more than anything else. Getting past loserdom and the overall stench of being a loser is #1 right now.
Also Zimmermann is as important to the Nats as any player is to any team. Missing him is huge.
    Wins a win

One good thing this year is that injuries are down. With that, the offense has rebounded somewhat. Remember last year how we cringed during summer games, hoping the team would actually score 3 runs? at least they’re struggling to score less than they did last year.
Also, is it just me, or does letting Werth go seem like a good move by RAJ now? I know he has 8 HR’s, but i’m just sayin’…

I can attest to the fact that it was plenty hot/humid there today. I don’t know how the pitchers and catchers (with the extra stuff on) do it. Whew- Really hot!

This game never felt like it was in doubt to me. Maybe it’s because it’s the Nats, or just because the Phils lately seem to always have some comeback in them. They had to comeback twice today, but it was great to see them get the win for Doc, who when it mattered most in the 7th, got out of the jam. I loved that he threw home to get Cora in the rundown, that eased most of the pressure.

As I stated a few weeks back when folks were getting on the Phillies offense for not scoring when they got guys like Josh Johnson, Shawn Marcum, Anibel Sanchez, and Jair Jurjjens in jams—this is what the great ones do, they get out of the jams! Great pitchers don’t throw 1 or 2 hitters every time out, they are mentally and physically tough and they keep their teams in games, that’s what makes them special. They don’t melt down

I’m sorry to read about Vance Worley being sent down. But although he seems to have good stuff, right now he doesn’t have that toughness and he melts down. (12 hits in three innings, that’s a not ready for prime time player)

I worried a just a little about Chase at the end when they replaced him, only because of the throw where Polanco pulled him up in the air, yet he still got the out at first. He landed pretty hard but showed no sign that it bothered him. But he’s Chase Utley, when does he ever show it?

Hot day, competitive game, Hot dogs and Hamburgers on the grill as I write!

Hunter Pence is OK. I wouldn’t trade Brown and Worley for him. Singleton, Worley, and a middling type (Rizzoto, Overbeck, etc), then fine. I sure am happy that Raul is hitting better. Washington is such a bad baseball town. I enjoyed seeing Werth already popping off a bit. What does he expect management to do for him? Trade bad players to teams for good players in return? He signed on to play in the seventh circle of baseball Hell which is fine but I sure don’t wanna hear him complain about it. Washington. The oppressive heat. The Nats. I’d stay at home, too.

No DIpsy i was thinking of an outfield with Brown, Shane an Pence. How would they get Pence i dont know but it would be nice. Im also glad Raul has a bit of gas left in his tank. Hoping he keeps it going for the rest of the year. If he keeps it up he can “almost” (key word) carry the team till hopefully Chase gets his groove back. I hope Chase wasnt injured i was a bit puzzled when i turn the radio on an heard Valdez was in.

I thought subbing Exxon for Chase late with the lead was the plan all along.
MLB.com has career fielding % at 2nd base at .992 for Exxon and .982 for Chase. This may be unreliable though since Chase is over 8,000 innings on 2nd and Valdez is not even 700.
I guess they feel if they can rest Utley whenever they can, it’s a good thing.

Swear to god we’re working on stuff!!!!

Glad to see Brown getting back on track. Batting 7th is a perfect spot for him right now, he should stay there when Victorino comes back. Or even bat 8th behind Ruiz. Puts no real pressure on the guy.

Not sure buffy maybe it was that awkward landing Chase had on the high throw by Polly prompted Cholly to sit him.

Resting Utley after his last AB will almost certainly be a regular event this year. Every little bit of rest can help.

    BTW did anybody notice;

Phils own the best record in baseball, again?
The Cleveland Indians are starting to wake up and lose?
The Phils lead over the Fish is now 3 games?
That the Arizona Snakes are leading the NL west (hah!)?

Just sayin’ – 102 wins is not just a pipe dream for this team.
