First baseman/outfielder Ross Gload was placed on the paternity leave list today, the Phillies announced. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, OF John Mayberry Jr. was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Mayberry, who was optioned to Lehigh Valley yesterday when center fielder Shane Victorino was activated from the disabled list, will be available for tonight’s game in Pittsburgh against the Pirates at 7:05 p.m.

So that was fast. Mayberry won’t be free for long though; the paternity leave only lasts up to 72 hours, so it’s likely he’ll be back by the time the Phillies get back to Philly. Unless he’s DL’ed…stay tuned.

Yea what a clunker of a game…sorry to say but the Phils may be a good team but i think by now we arent feared like we where 2 or 3 years ago…Weakness exposed!

I read the philllies nation facebook while this site was down.
    Its actually more negative there.

I just think people are noticing as the phillies play more. And its more of the same. And its been this way a long long time now.

They never play well in Pitts though. Saw that coming 100 miles away.

Paternity leave? Hahahahahahahaha. Thats just too much. I thought I saw Gload driving around town with his backseat full of feminine napkins. Real ballplayers do….not…..take….paternity leave unless there are complication with the pregnancy we’re in the movie “A League Of Their Own”. I know a guy that I used to work with who took the new, county offered “paternity leave” about 15 years ago. He took his full two weeks. He was “let go” a month later. His boss didn’t really believe in “paternity leave”.

As for Mayberry, what a slap in the face. They’re treating this kid like a red headed stepchild. “Love me or let me go” a woman once said to me. Well, thats how I would feel about the Phils if I were JMJr. Did he light the world on fire while he was up here? No. Did he show he was worth keeping over BenFran or Martinez? Yes. If Mayberry made that throw from center last night in the 12th, they might still be playing right now because he would nailed that guy. Instead, BenFran launches an off line beachball. I thought utility guys were supposed to acquit themselves adequately in the field. BenFran sucks. That guy’s gotta go.

I am upset about Mayberry too, how many options do we have on this guy?

I also didn’t know Gload was pregnant, maybe that’s why he can’t run. I’m in town all week.

But seriously, I am no fan of Ben Fran, I definitely would have kept JMJ over him, but I disagree with you about that throw last night. It wasn’t that bad a throw.

True AWF. Now that the whole crew is back – its back to business as usual. The same offense but with a higher payroll. Give it two weeks and the war drums will be pounding. Get the face paint ready.

I thnk Gload goes to the DL or Martinez is offered back to the Nats.
There is more to this than meets the eye.

Why option your 3rd best OFer and keep Fransisco and Martinez.
It didnt make sense yesterday. Him being back makes sense.
Although the paternity leve thing is a funny reason

    BTW
Congrats to Ross and his wife

Lefty, respectfully, are you nuts? That throw was horrible.

Really Utley needs to knock that ball down.

Having a crippled player at 2b could be bad.

Obviously Utley will never be the .900+ OPS guy again.
But if he becomes a liabilty on defense. He has to go or be moved to left.
You cannot have a liabilty at C 2b SS or CF

Dipsy look again, once it bounces off Utley’s glove, count the seconds, Werth could have done it better, but not Mayberry,

Let me stress, I agree that Ben Fran makes some terrible throws, but that was not one of them.

I believe that had Utley NOT touched the ball, Ben Fran would have had him.

Ok. Reasonable minds can differ. But he does have a bad arm. I have a bad feeling about this offense and some of these players. Specifically, Utley and Howard (don’t mention Raul anymore). This team does not have the starting 9 to win the WS. Bad offense and not as good defensively as years past.

I’m reasonable, just not much of a mind.

I really hope they can come out of this funk now, i believe a relatively weak hitting team can win a WS, several already have, but if you add a poor/average fielding team to that they absolutely can not. Defense up the middle is a must, and corners need to be above average.

Howard Ibanez Utley Ruiz all hitting under .250

When I look at Howards career stats. His “good” years had over 100 walks.
So far this year he has 25.

Something happened where he regressed in that.
They are paying him 25 million for next year.
Pay somone to come in and work with him solely on pitch selection and taking walks.

Id take 10=15 less homers if he walked 100 plus times hit .300

Charlie is not interested in having him do that. His first two years in the league he was beautiful. I thought that signing him was a necessity, given the PR bludgeoning they would have taken had they let him walk. It just would have sent a bad signal. But as he regresses and that number stays at 25m, it kinda gets hard to take. If this is the Ryan we will have from here on out, I would honestly trade him after the season to anyone who would take his payroll. You could sign and trade for a lotta talent if you had 25m more a year to spend. He’s still a helluva hitter and good guy. He just costs waaaaayyyyyyy to much.

Well since we have first pitch I have to assume there will be no game thread tonight. It’s poker night anyway. Later folks.

I agree Dipsy Howard does cost too much. I know he will probably be on fire at the end of the month. Even so he is more like a 15 Mill a year guy it was mostly PR as he is a fan fav. Moving on i think the throw not great but i wouldnt call it bad. Kind of like a B- or C+ thing. I also believe Dipsy we may not have the offense to take the World Series I said this last year as well. However it is still feasible if we can get two of these guys hot at any moment. If this teams fails to go pass at least round 1 i think Rub will start to make some serious moves. I also with the exception of 2 or so players dont think this team is old yet but starting to show their age.Like a former Hottie who gained a few extra pounds an her boobs starting to sag. She still looks good but she starting to relinquish her hottie tag. Howard is streaky an strike out prone. The same could be said pretty much for the rest of the bunch. With the exception of Polanco possibly. Howard was exposed during the Yankees serious an the Phils in general where exposed during the Giants series. I really dont think anyone will take Howards contract without some other incentives thrown in.

do really need to see KK give up 6 runs again. please cut him already. tired of watching howard ground out to second. this team stinks

rollins got a boo boo. these players are p y s……my god..

the guys i work with had a carton of tile fall on his foot breaking it. he went to the drs. and cameback 2 hours later. he said i have to work..maybe these guys can do the same. this offense is not watchable. period.

Kendrick throwing BP, pitching about as well as can be expected. Bats need to wake up against this Halladay clone.

    Missed the first 5 innings

2 runs. They really broke out.

Maybe they will get 3 runs tonight? You would send the tape to cooperstown in that case.

Ryan howard once again with runners on first and third, double play

you overrated subway BIG NOSE piece of s t….

    I hate him

This team is not winning anything this year. 4 in a row to the two worst teams. worst then this site.

martinez and valdez leading off the inning. LOL LOL LOL LOL

    2 OUTS

  • Posts: 0 Andrew From Waldorf

Howard is the most dangerous hitter on the team and second best hitter behind Polanco who is the Phils only real professional hitter left.

I see Jimmy is out hurt already

So the in tact line up lasted one 12 inning game that they scored 1 run in.

Nice throw by Jeffs favorite player.

Nice to see action by our buddy JC. Oh, did he walk the first batter? Surprise Cholly!

If I recall Cholly saying, probably last year maybe the year before, he likes to let the players play their game, they know what they’re doing.

Well Cholly, times up. Apparently ‘playing their game’ of waiting on the 3 run hr is not going to work any more?? Hellooo Cholly?

I am almost hoping we will be seeing the end of the Cholly run here soon.. What he does as a manager just aint working. No timely hits, no hrs, no moving the runners up – its time for a change.

There we go JC – you are the man!!!!!

  • Posts: 0 Andrew From Waldorf

He does have this line up in first

    Theres that insurance run
    As if they needed it

I could really use the Morton win in fantasy.

The phils are now one of the teams you spot start a starter against.
    Especially on the road.
Used to be if a starter on yuor roster was facing the Phils youd consider benching them like you do with the Red Sox and Yankees.

Andrew, what did you call JC – public enemy #3?

  • Posts: 0 Andrew From Waldorf

JC needs to go back to the DR and goto the drug store.

He hasnt been good for as long as the Phillies bats havent been good.

Id like to see Charlie get another title.
Dunno if this team is capable of that though.

BUT JC says he was only bad in that one game. LOL LOL LOL..

Get rid of JC, KK, Baez, now. Howard is just stealing money. This team is getting embarrassed.

this team is a joke. howard DANGEROUS. LOL

    TWICE GROUNDS INTO DB PLAYS.

They are a joke. They really are. The braves are marlins just stink.

Wow, he got the fierce Lyle Overbay out – who was well on his way to a cycle! Nice job JC.

Well, all is good eh? We spotted them a few runs and our money guys are at bat! Utley (he’s hitting above the Mendoza line again everyone) at .205

    Howard – at a dangerous .244

    Victorino – at .276

    Hey, if I’m a Pirate, I’m sceered

  • Posts: 0 Andrew From Waldorf

No but he is probably the leader of the Gas house gang now.

Well Baez is probably the worst. And Herndon cant even stay on a roster that has JC and Baez blowing games all the time.

The 3 of them are the gas house gang. It was Herndon #1 Baez #2 JC #3

They come out to the mound with some gasoline or kerosene and a book of matches and do thier thing. Its beautiful.
    And its every single time.

Jeff I said Hoard is the most dangerous hitter on this team.

    Read between the lines son.

A nince un earned run against Baez in the 9th

In case you are relying on him in fantasy.

if howie the human waste of garbage is the most dangerous,,

this team is not going to win with this offense. NO WAY
