POLL: Your Favorite Phillies Reliever

This is a pretty straightforward question – or is it? Who is your favorite relief pitcher on the Phillies?

There are some great choices. Ryan Madson, now the anchor of the bullpen. Jose Contreras, “The Big Truck” who has closed and set-up in his year and a half. Antonio Bastardo, quietly one of the best relievers in baseball. Brad Lidge, the guy who won the Phillies the 2008 title and who still holds a place in many hearts. How about Mike Stutes and the job he has done – he might be the new set up guy.

Madson, in part because I met him a few years ago up in Boston – at Cask’N Flagon the bar behind the Green Monster …. he hung out with us talking for a few minutes before a crowd started to gather and he took off …. Nice to see a nice, homegrown guy sticking and succeeding in the organization

Madson does seem like a cool dude. He’s really the only one who will talk when something goes wrong in that locker room, other than the starting pitcher who HAS to talk. Its ridiculous.

Whoever votes for Lidge is being nostalgic, whoever votes for Stutes is being trendy, and whoever votes for Kendrick/Baez/Romero/Herndon is really just looking to get a rise out of people. There’s really only one legit answer here: Wilson Valdez.

If I had a like button for this I’d like it.

I wish Wilson Valdez was posted as well. Hands down my vote!

Gotta love the Mad Dog. Madson is down to earth and very friendly. He also handles the ball well under pressure.

Madsen has really brought his A game this season. I am very impressed for sure! It’s been a very great season in general.

Madson. He’s home grown. He’s nasty. And he’s a really nice guy. I met him as well last year during the time he was laid up due to the injury. VERY down-to-earth and approachable.

…Wondering who are the 6 poor souls that voted for Kendrick/Baez/Herndon/Romero…

Right now I have to go with Glorious Bastardo. I have a bias for southpaws for some reason. And if he ever gets the chance, he’s ambidextrous- bats right handed.
