San Diego Padres (44-58) at Philadelphia Phillies (64-36)

Aaron Harang (8-2, 3.29 ERA) vs. Cliff Lee (9-6, 2.83 ERA)

Time: 1:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: MY PHL 17
Weather: Scattered Storms, 88

Let’s sweep, shall we? While filling in on the radio last Friday (go to 973ESPN.com NOW to listen to me hosting from 1-3, thanks!) I called a Phillies sweep, and they’re about to make me look really smart. I felt coming in that the Padres were a completely overmatched team and that is apparently the case. The Phillies have beaten the Padres in every facet of this series. A sweep could put more distance between the Phils and their nearest competition, the Braves.

Cliff Lee is just the man to do it. After a decent start against the Cubs in Chicago – one in which he gave up two runs over six innings – Lee can continue his tear recently. At Citizens Bank Park, Lee is on fire with a 0.44 ERA in his last five starts there. He’s 6-0 with a 0.95 ERA in seven home starts since losing to Atlanta on May 6. Wicked numbers. It’s a perfect scenario for that domination to continue; a home start against one of the worst offenses in the league. I see good things coming from Lee today.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Martinez 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Victorino CF, Ibanez LF, Brown RF, Ruiz C, Lee P.

Your gameday beer: Sly Fox Pikeland Pils

It comes in a can, is refreshing, and is relatively cheap. And it’s not a beast, a Pabst, or a big three beer. It’s Pikeland Pils, made by Sly Fox, made in Phoenixville, PA. A Northern German style Pilsner brewed with imported German Pils malt and hopped with German and Czech hops, it’s light in body, light straw in color and dry. It has won numerous medals for its great taste. Don’t be scared by the can!  – By Pat

GO PHILLIES!

  • Lee seems to be on early…

  • I wouldn’t mind seeing us make a push for Ludwick…

  • What the eff was that? He was out by 20 feet!

I really think brown needs to go. Just very average in the field. Very catchable ball. He also gives you nothing atthe plate. Lee needs to get his head out of his a s s. Lob over. Getting crushed. Padres are horrible.

Lee can look great or just bad. This team can play bad ball

I’m sitting behind first. Ryan loves to talk to the opposing team. If I was Manuel I would shut the Fu. Up and try to hit homers. My god. Pete rose never did that. He would say shut up boy Lee get those pitches down you smoker.

Why would Ryan come through with runners in scoring. That’s why we need pence. My mets friend said if Beltran is traded for brown he will go tithe Yankees. He said brown is not a major leaguer.

Eeesh i just turn the game on what happened Lee. The Phils cant seem to sweep a series well 3 out of 4 aint bad. Now they posting they going after Upton BJ. Why him he offers nothing than what we already have. Jeff i been looking at Brown he sometimes does look awkward out there. We where all stuck on his .320 BA i think a lot of us forgot to ask what about his defense an other tools.

We need a solid right bat. Get rid of brown. Keep Vance. Can Howard take a freaking walk. Swings at terrible pitches. This padres team should not score at all. They are bad.

Personally, I wish the Phils would trade Howard to perhaps the Cardinals and we could go after either Fielder or Pujols in the offseason. Or, we could go after three solid hitters for what this big lump earns. Forget about all the RBI’s, the dude is degrading quickly and will be nothing but a bum in two years. He will be Ruben’s albatross soon and Ruben knows it.

Howard is average. No power. Tired of watching brown pop up fouls. My god.

  • yea howard never comes through in the clutch or with runners on base only hit ph hr to tie the game the other day, and oh yea leads the league in RBI so he must never hit with guys on base. And is this little league or do they play nine innings, how do you give up on a game in the seventh inning. Lidge looks pretty good, slider is working pretty good. I agree Brown is not major league ready. Especially defensivly. I would not trade him though he has no value right now, but I would rather see Mayberry jr out there. Good inning by Lidge, and it is only the negitive people who do not have jobs so they can watch the game in the afternoon. LOL

Just look at Howard in the world series. Come on.

    • EJeff you are the band wagon fan everyone complains about, what about everyother playoff series of his career, The guy leads the league in RBI so he must get hits with guys on base at some point. give the guys some credit, he is one of the top 1-5 power hitter rbi guys of this generation. so if you going to be a critic of the guy have some facts more then one sub par five game series.

  • Mayberry jr is the rh bat you all seem to want. JRoll has to come through there

    Should of had Rollins bunting.

    • JRoll has had a hot bat and weather you want to admit it has been pretty clutch in his career so I can blame them for going for it there. I have a question for you Jeff have you ever had a positive thing to say about the phillies or any of there players, I know they are a terrilbe team and are in last place 30 games under 500. Oh wait, they have the best record in the league and have the highest BA in the NL since July first. Is your life really that misreable that you have to be negitive all the time

    Mayberry is not pence

Shut up Ryan you scum. That was a k. Should of had a run. Howard needs to leave and go party with lefty.

  • maybe not but he is cheaper and will be a consistant right hand bat that can play all three outfield positions, and Jeff you are an idiot, if those pitches are strikes for Utley and Howard then they are almost un hittable pitches that would only resault in ground outs or lazy fly balls, if the plate is going to be two inches wider that back door cutter is almost impositlbe to hit. Jeff you sure you are not just a mets fan that has nothing better to do

  • Time to hand a Blown Save on this guy, big walk off inning here GO PHILLIES

  • Really swinging 2-0 down one run, take a strike rookie, get on base

  • THere is the eye we like to see, nice job Dom.

  • Maybe Chooch can teach Marteniz how to do that, come Ross lets see some of that PH magic

  • Come on Jimmy just a base hit please, I want a come back win for my christmas in JUly

  • oh well, can you really complain about three out of four, Lee had an off day, that happens, now lets take care of the Giants and win another series. I know Jeff will complain about this game cause they are suppose to be 100-0 this time of year. Bull pen was good even Carpenter, Stutes and Lidge looked really good, nice to see Brad with a clean inning. Most times you score 4 runs for Cliffy it is a win, move on and take care of the Giants Tomorrow with the Vanamal.

Jeff’s right, I mean seriously… now we fall all the way back to – Still in 1st Place with this loss

  • What the team can not lose a game they won 3 out of 4 and all you can do is complain about one at bat. And just so you know I live in VT and goes have the Sunday package, good for you at the game, it never hurts to be positve once in a while is all I am saying. You figure out where this team with Ryan for the last five years you idiot

Rooting for the Buco’s to at least beat the Bravos for one game. Lets see what the Phils can do against the Giants pitching staff.
