2011 Gameday, Posts

Philadelphia Phillies (53-32) at Florida Marlins (38-46)

Vance Worley (3-1, 2.57 ERA) vs Ricky Nolasco (5-4, 4.08 ERA)

Time: 6:10 pm, Sun Life Stadium
TV: MyPHL 17
Weather: Sunny, 90
Media: Twitter and Facebook

All-Stars:

Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Placido Polanco will make the trek to Arizona to play in the 2011 MLB All-Star game. Polanco was voted in as the starter by the fans, while Halladay would seem to be the starting pitcher in the game if all ends well in the first half. He’s likely the front runner.

Also, Shane Victorino can make it with your help as the final vote for the NL. Congrats to all and good luck to Victorino.

TODAY’S GAME:

Yesterday…what happened!? Today is a new day and it’s the 4th of July, so lets start anew. Vance Worley goes for his 4th win on the 4th, opposed by Ricky Nolasco. The Marlins were brutally bad in the month of June, but have won back to back games. This feels like a bit of a trap series for the Phillies, who are coming off a tough loss to end their Toronto series.

It’ll be up to Worley, who has been outstanding, to make sure that does not happen.

Enjoy your holiday weekend!!

Lineup:

Your gameday beer: Corona

Why not celebrate the peak of the summer with an ice cold Corona. Nothing beats one of these on the beach, by the pool side, or while tending to a grill stacked with your favorite meats. Lime or no lime, it’s a refreshing reminder of the summer for many. Enjoy the next two months, because they’ll go by so quickly.  -By Pat

…….Corona is a fine beer….but, on July 4th, how about a Yuengling? America’s Oldest Brewery ? Or a Chesterfield Ale brewed by Yuengling?

God already rumors of Juan Rivera joining the Phils. Meh i wouldnt take the game the guy makes too much $$$. Why not save it for someone who is more worthy of a shot. They sign this guy an he continues to struggle there goes any more money for signing anyone else. Plus this guy is a clubhouse doghouse from what i read but i could be wrong.

Fado’s downtown – or an Irish Pub of your choice but honestly a decent bar will have it in bottle.

Yea Polly skid is worrying me as well. I dont have any stats but it also seems like he has been striking out more past 4-5 weeks. Something he didnt do much even when he struggled before.

More info on Gaby Sanchez salary. He will make plenty in years to come. But right now, as the link says, he’s a stud. Puts forth 20% of his teams performance.

Marlins have a problem as two of their best hitters are both natural first baseman. Either Logan or Sanchez probably has to be traded. It will be interesting to see if they sell heavy at the deadline.

The Marlins seem to need Hanley though.
But he is not a winner or a leader etc etc.
He needs to be on a team like the Phillies where he could just hit. And his being a cancer in the clubhouse wouldnt matter so much. That hes a leader on the Marlins will doom them for his tenure.

Hanley’s contract is worse than Howard’s when compared to performance this year. They can keep him as far as I am concerned.

And Charlie never has a clubhouse cancer, doesn’t matter who you put on his team. As much as I criticize his strategic decisions, there’s a reason for that.

@ having too many first baseman
Thats always been one of my points about making Howard a 25 million dollar man.
I really think you can find guys to plug in at first who can do as much or more for half the salary.
Besides Mike Piazza you can train a donkey to play first. The Royals have Hosemer and Butler. I would be fine with either at first for 10-12 million a year.
Which is what Gaby Sanchez will be making as his career progresses.

Id move Hanley to first or left and tell him to shut is mouth and swing the bat.
    The end
    Another Miguel Cabrera

Talk about an old man. Look at Mckeon LOL
If I was an umpire Id have to laugh a little if he came out screaming at me.

I think Gaby has a chance to make more than 10-12. Logan Morrison also, now that I think about it, neither of them likely be on the Marlins when they do.

148 years of age of managers were hired last week. And there was only 2 of them!

Got to be driving the sabermat’s nuts.

    Cy Worley?

Vanimal, Worley-bird, Cy Worley! It doesn’t matter – brigning it baby as long as Ramirez swings 3-0, its all good.

Worley is the real deal. Too bad Oswalt is damaged. He should be moved.

There goes Tom with “scalded” again.

Again, Tmac- scalded involves burning or boiling something, it has nothing to do with power.

    Polly want an RBI?

I really don’t think Jimmy will be back next year. I think they’d have made him an extension offer by now. I think he may have turned them down. Pure speculation

I’d find it hard to believe he would be getting an offer better than what the Phils might render. I dont think he’s moving. His attachment for the city, etc… I think a 3 year $15 mi would keep him here.

    Worley is tiring, losing command.

the real story is Worley dealing. He has been terrific for the past few outings!
At a 100 pitch count – does Cholly yank the young man? I’d say lets see what he does to start the 8th… 2 men on base is the fuse I’m talking about.

I don’t care how many he’s retired in a row, you can see in his body language, don’t make the same mistake you made yesterday Charlie. Get Worley out.

I don’t know, I just think they’d have made an offer to Jimmy by now. So either they are working on it, or Jimmy has decided to wait and test the market. Which doesn’t mean he won’t be back.

Give VW a look in the 8th, he has progressively gone longer each outting

Howard is in quite a funk, a Raul type funk -

Worley needed to get the bunt down
This team is not good enough offensively to leave runs on the bases because of poor fundamentals.
I said this when it first happned. But alas the posts didnt appear

It is seriously time to retire this old football ballpark.

Teams always put a shift on Frank Howard in the 60′s Wheels.

Howard is easy to defend. He’d be a .500 hitter if they played him straight up.

Yes agree we should have come away with at least one more run that inning. Let’s go Stutes.

@Andrew- No I don’t, but if we don’t get the Madson healthy, we might need him.

    Way to go Stutes!
