It’s a simple question, but one that isn’t easy to answer. Would you trade Domonic Brown to the Houston Astros to get Hunter Pence?

Pence is hitting .311 this season with 11 home runs and 61 runs driven in. He makes $6.9 million this season and is eligible for arbitration in each of the following two seasons. He’s a pretty good defender with a nice arm and is right handed.

Brown is hitting .247 with 5 home runs and 16 RBI. He’s far cheaper than Pence as he’ll be under team control for 5+ seasons. Brown is a good defender as well, using his speed and agility to track down balls, although his route to the baseball is sometimes an odd one. He also has a great arm.

Would you pull the trigger giving up the future for a guy who is a good, but not great, player? VOTE!

Would you trade Domonic Brown for Hunter Pence?

No. The point of getting Pence is to get a good bat in the lineup. Trading Brown defeats the purpose of getting a bat. An ideal trade would be prospects for Pence, DFA Ibanez and put Pence in left. If that happens, the Phillies would have an incredible outfield

The future is right now for the Phils We have an opportunity to win world series championships right now not three years from now when Brown may or may not be a player. Brown has not demonstrated anything to justify putting him in a starting role.

He can’t helps us win right now,but Pence is a proven impact player that would step in and produce at a high level right now! Pence is an all star not just a good player and will be for the next five years. Brown is a prospect that might work out,but right now he can’t get us over the hump.

Pence can hit. Brown might be able to hit
Pence is a gold glove fielder, Brown is average
Pence is proven, Brown hasn’t proven anything other than he is not ready for major league baseball at this point.

The Phillies have a mediocre offense to say the least and Pence improves the offense immediately. Brown contributes to the mediocrity.

Brown may become a good player, Pence already is.

It’s a no brainer! Pence can play at a high level. Brown can’t right now and may not ever!
We need to win now! No more hypothesizing about the future. The future is right now!

I am getting pretty tired of the Raul Bashing from most of you on this site, it is just plain wrong to think he has not and will not contribute to this team offensivly. Should he sit out against some lefties at this point probably. But he can still hit and can go two three weeks where he will simply rake righties. He is simply going to play a majority of left field for a WS contending Phillies team get used to it.

No– I lust after Pence greatly but Brown CANNOT be part of a deal. I see absolutely zero sense in creating another outfield hole for 2012. Also, we have to either pay or replace Victorino after 2012, so it just doesn’t make sense within this Phillies current window (which is indeed 2011, but also includes 2012 and 2013) to have to find yet another replacement after this year.

GET PENCE but do whatever you have to do to keep Brown as well. I’d easily give up Worley + Singleton + Cosart + any other prospect not named May/Colvin

I dont see Ibanez being DFA’d though, he’ll just be a 4th outfielder, and potential WS designated hitter.

If we wouldn’t trade Brown for Halladay, the idea of trading him for someone like Pence is asinine.

Pence is a good, not great player. He’s not even Jayson Werth (well, except for this year). And getting Pence for Brown still leaves us with a big hole in LF.

NO KEEP BROWN THIS KID IS GONNA BE GOOD. HE IS GETTING BETTER THE MORE HE PLAYS. AND THE ASSHOLE THAT SAID TO TRADE WORLEY IS TOO STUPID TO EVEN WATCH THE GAME.

You probably said the same thing about JA Happ. Worley’s a good kid and I like him, but he’s expendable– wouldnt get a sniff on the mound in the playoffs

i agree TOTALLY…why give up that kind of young pitching talent? i really would like to have pence, but not at the expence of worley or brown…why not offer up blanton and francisco?

keep Brown. He has shown me enough to convince me that the kid will be real good. Pence is a fine player but the upside to Brown is too big. I would go after Melky Cabrera much harder as he will cost less and can hit from both sides of the plate, is only 26 and has World Series experience. He plays ALL outfield positions well and has some pop (similar to Victorino). He could be a real late bloomer and serve the Phils for five more years. Plus he is NOT expensive.

Also, we have Schwimmer in the minors and he looks to be a stud reliever. I would go after Chad Qualls of the Padres and I would also inquire about Chase Headley — a young switch hitter having a solid year and a decent third baseman/ outfielder.

Eh, I don’t see Brown as a high-level player. At best, I see him in Pence’s class (.270 / 20 HR / 80 RBI), and I’m even hesitant to say that. Brown annihilates AAA pitching, really destroys it — but MLB pitchers who don’t lob him fastballs control him completely. He comes across to me as lackadaisical, and this lineup doesn’t need another questionable left-handed bat. So, yes, I would trade him for Pence, who is a right-handed bat who has proven himself at the Big League level.

Brown for Pence is an ABSOLUTE STEAL….Pence is not much older than Brown and already proven to be a better player than Brown will ever be. Has anybody actually watched Dom Brown play, he has shown nothing spectacular

Right on James. Pence is a good player and proven. Gets better every season. As good as werth. The reason we did not trade brown for doc. Easy we were thinking brown was the man. No way.

No, i would not trade brown – i would trade francisco, ibanez, or mayberry, but not brown. Although, getting pence would be the best move the phils can do as he will play left field next year.

Brown for Pence – in a second. Houston wants more than Brown. Comcast is reporting 1 or 2 top minor league prospects. Brown has too many holes in his swing. The Phils must go World Series or Bust

Pence is almost 4.5 years older than Brown . . . . the difference between a 24 year old and a 28-year-old is a big difference in pro sports

If you can get Beltran while keeping Brown… that’s the move to make

For those that would trade Brown– I’d be curious to know who will take Ibanez’s place in LF in 2012 if you trade Brown for Pence, and how the Phils will pay for it? Pence will make $9-10 mil next season (and would be worth it), but who plays the other outfield corner?

There are almost no free agent outfielders under the age of 31 coming onto the market, and there is absolutely no way they would pay Beltran the contract he will command– you’re looking at someone like Willingham, Ludwick, Gomes, or Cody F-ing Ross. Are any of them really better than paying $500k to see if Dom Bomb is the real deal?

I want Pence, just not at the expense of losing Brown

Oh yeah, I forgot, he’s always been considered a top prospect……….

I look forward to the cry for Ruben to trade for another outfielder next season then

All of this talk about trades involving Brown or Worley is hog wash. Come August 1 both will be on this team.

I think I may trade brown for Pence, but the big question would be can you afford him for 3-5 more years, if they think they can sign him to adeal they can afford while keeping JRoll and Cole I think you do it, I think JR has shown some promise since coming back from the minors. The one thing is after this year if you lose Brown for Pence you become a total RH team, with the exception of SH, Ryan and Chase.Cause Raul will probably retire after this year, evern if he doesn’t the phillies will not try to re sign him.
Brown has a nice strong accurate arm but I am not sure he will ever develop into a great defender. No I know I have been on Dom case all year, but if they could get Pence without trading him I would like it better. But if it was Worley or Brown and you get Pence I would choose Brown. Worley is going to be the number four guy next year, cause Little Roy will not be back, I do not think. And the deference between Worley and Happ, whom I like also, is that you got Oswalt in the deal, so you replaced a pitcher with a pitcher, you lose Worley for Pence, what do you do If Little Roy can not come back or gets hurt again and Big Joe does not pitch until next year, good pitchers are harder to find the a bat. If they had room in the money side they would have another bat already.

Talk about a leading question on the vote.

You would have to be CRAZY not to trade Brown for Pence If we don’t upgrade in the 5th spot, we will fall again with lack luster offense. It is exactly what happened to us last year.

I would go, Worley-Brown for Pence and cash.
