Florida Marlins (58-72) at Philadelphia Phillies (83-45)
Clay Hensley (1-5, 5.47) vs. Roy Oswalt (6-7, 3.51)
Time: 7:05 p.m., Citizens Bank Park
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Weather: Sunny, 81
Media: Twitter and Facebook
Try and keep up with me here. Saturday’s Day-Night doubleheader is now just a day game. The night portion of the double dip has been postponed until September 15, time to be determined. So Sunday’s game is now being played Saturday, and Saturday’s game has been canceled due to that Irene bitch.
Rich Dubee says Roy Halladay will pitch tomorrow(if they even get it in), then with the off day Sunday, there is uncertainty. Cole Hamels was slated to return from the DL, and it’s unlikely they’ll slide him back an further. Cliff Lee also needs to throw, so keep an eye on that situation.
Anywho, for tonight’s game, it seems like the ultimate mismatch on the mound. Roy Oswalt is back to being healthy and coming off a great performance (8 shutout innings against the Nats). Clay Hensley is not, he was just shelled last week (7 earned runs in 3 2/3 innings).
John Mayberry Jr. is also in the starting lineup once again as Raul Ibanez is not quite ready to return. Has Raul lost this gig permanently? Mayberry seems to be hanging in there against righties recently.
Enjoy the beautiful weather if you’re on the east coast for tonight’s game. Grab some cold ones, sit back, and relax, because tomorrow and Sunday are going to suck, big time.
NL STANDINGS:
Lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Pence RF, Mayberry, Jr LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Oswalt P
Your Gameday Beer – Stoudt’s American Pale Ale
Just a good, old fashioned pale ale. It won’t knock your socks off, but is 10x better than Coors and all that stuff. It has a beautiful light amber hue to it and leaves you with a slight, SLIGHT bitter aftertaste. It is Stoudt’s #1 selling beer and for good reason. Make yourself some beef stew and lay the recliner back.

Will the Braves ever loose from here on out is my main concern?

6 games up is still a lot ….. hopefully we continue to see Oswalt improve and our Bullpen really get definied roles before the postseason starts

We need to win tonight and we need Ryan Howard to be a bigger part of this offense. It needs to happen now. Either he hits or he gets benched. Mayberry is outplaying him by a wide margin and does not look nearly as futile at the plate against lefties or righties.

Bart, no matter what you think of Ryan Howard he will NEVER EVER EVER get benched. Ever. It’s just not happening. He has 100 RBI this season and no matter what you think about RBI, he’s knocking in too many and is too important to this order. Come on now.

My gut tells me that we will NOT see Roy Oswalt next year. He wants to leave the game with some dignity and I hope he has a solid September. But I do not think he is motivated to return next year. He has already made a nice bundle of money and suffers with a chronic bad back.

Pat, I know that he is worshipped and I really like the guy myself. But players sometimes need a rest, especially when they are knicked up. Howard seems like he may be suffering a bit. A game sitting, or two, would not be the end of the world, especially against a lefty. He just looks lost against some lefties. A little respite may be therapy for the guy.

I dont understand how the Giants can bench Zito and Rowand and win a title but the phillies cannot bench because of a contract?
Only one thing comes to mind. Fans in SF accepted it and went on to win a title benching thier 2 biggest contracts.
I fully expect Howard to have a Adam Dunn type of year next year and continue especially in the playoffs.
This is a great team. With one huge very exploitable hole.
But he can never sit. Thats dumb.

So what is your reasoning that Howard will hit .165 next year?

Got that one backwards

Oswalt really struggled in this one ,right from the start. Sure would be nice to win this one before the storm break. From what I read on SI.com,the Giants only had 48 hours to work out a deal for Bell and the Padres turned down what they offered.

The retards say RBI mean nothing like the moron who can’t spell and the idiot who hates fireman and police. You know those people I’m talking about, they risk their lives and sometimes die in the line of work, like the heroes of 9/11.

Bench Howard… Makes perfect sense. Play Gload every day, right? Or play Mayberry at first and start Ben Francisco. 27 HR and 1 behind the league leader in RBI… makes sense.

Wow – why in the world was that slug Hensley taken out of the game? Prototypical pitcher who absolutely stymies the Phils and only the Phils – low pitch count, 2 hits, no threats whatsoever – and the Phils could not be patient to hit anything. High ERA, every other team eats this bum up and he handcuffs our guys… Well, thanks McKeon.

Phils sure need their leadoff men to get on base – I know there are 6 more outs but I bet we see Lidge

Im glad he hit one. He hits 4th for a major league team that is going to win 100 games.
He will have moments. And I hope he hits another.
Guys need to realize I am no twishing him bad. I only simply comment honestly and realisticly on what I see.
Yes the Phillies need to get a runner on to tie the game.
This is the best team in baseball. And I thnk they can come back the Marlins pen is highly suspect.

I hate to see a loss but I thought there was 2 positives in this game. They were down 6-1 and hit their way back into it and the bullpen was lights out.
