2011 Gameday, News, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (79-42) at Washington Nationals (59-63)
Roy Oswalt (5-7, 3.84) vs. Livan Hernandez (7-11, 4.21)
Time: 7:05, Nationals Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Poss. T-Storms, 82
Media: Twitter and Facebook
Per usual, Phillies Nation is set to invade the Nation’s Capital with a bevy of tailgates and loud cheering. We friggin’ own that place. Tomorrow night, if you’re not busy and are in the D.C. area, stop out and hang with us at Lot W – 7th and M Sts, SE. Should be a lot of fun!
For tonight, let’s hope Roy Oswalt can get himself a win. He only has two of them since April, including last weekend victory over this very same unit. Oswalt is regaining the confidence he once had way back when he was not stricken with a back injury. He says the fastball is regaining its steam, an important facet of his repertoire.
Opposite Oswalt is that damn LIvan Hernandez again. He stifled the Phils last Friday and has done well against them this year – 2-1, 3.12 ERA in four starts.
No Shane Victorino again tonight, he’ll finish out his suspension.
Lineup: Rollins SS, Mayberry CF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Pence RF, Ibanez LF, Ruiz C, Valdez 3B, Oswalt P
Your Gameday Beer – Hoegaarden
This was Phillies Nation’s featured beverage the day Roy Halladay pitched his perfect game. “I’ve always liked Hoegaarden, which can be enjoyed in small sips with good food. It flows smooth and tastes like citrus. Have some barbecue chicken with it,” said former Phillies Nation writer Tim Malcolm. Sounds good, Tim! -By Pat

Brilliant. Start the game, then put down the tarp after 5 pitches.

I believe the decision to actually start the game rests with the home game. St Louis did something similar to waste the starter earlier in the year, and they were saying they the decision to actually start the game rests with the home team, then once it starts, it rests with the Umps.

Woo hoo! Hit parade! Good to see the bats didn’t get cold in that long delay.
I think it’s safe to go to bed now. Hope I don’t regret this in the morning…

Who can tell me, I am at work and only catch MLB internet updates, I saw that Desmond hit what is called a sharply hit ball to Mayberry – 1) how did it turn into a double and 2) how did Ramos score from first?

The of course the obvious question – why didn’t Oswalt start the game? I know KK was slated to start tomorrows game, who will start tomorrow?

Oswalt didn’t start because of a 2+ hour rain delay. Don’t know who will start tomorrow.

Announcers just said: Oswalt is fine, but given his past back issues, they were concerned about having him warm up, then sit for 2 hours, then warm up again. They didn’t say who will start tomorrow.

True, but the announcers indicated that they were being extra cautious with Oswalt because of his history of back problems. Not any actual problems tonight, just concern that the strain of that sort of thing might exacerbate his back problems.

That has to be it for KK – with Bastardo, Stutes, Madson we have to have enough to close this out, more runs would be nice 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Zimmermann is the best 3b in baseball.
KK was supposed to pitch tomorrow.
Who is the replacement? I am thinking a call will be made to dave bush?

Phillies.com hasn’t updated their probably pitchers for tomorrow. Maybe they’ll go ahead with Oswalt tomorrow? He didn’t do anything but warm up tonight, and the only reason they didn’t play him was an abundance of caution. I think it’s too early for Halladay, who is next in the rotation after KK

Hey, don’t dis my man Moyer. He was a smart pitcher. I was there when he threw his CG-SO. Granted, he didn’t get to do that very often, because he risked missing the last bus to the old-folks home…

Moyer won more games as Hamels (until he got hurt )in the same time as Hamels here.
Spent many an hour defending him and telling people how all he did was win games for the Phillies.
Hes one of my all time favorites.
And I bet he makes a roster next year.

I dropped Bastardo for Bobby Parnell a few days ago. Should help AB be better.

This is why you use your best pitchers in a high leverage situation, and not when there is no one on with a two run lead in the 8th…

Madson is terrible. Not a closer. Make bastardo your closer then trade Howard for zimmerman. 1 hit since the third. The Nats s u c k

Really F-ed up my fantasy implications this week.
Luckily I already clinched my big bet for that.
Do a shot Brooks. And as always no hard feelings.
This happens most of it was luck he had to give Zimmermann a cookie.

And there you have it – all 8 runs given to you by Ryan Madson.
Nice job Zimmerman, nice touch really. 3-2 count, 2 out in the bot of the 9th bases loaded and this game is OVER. Another loss for the Phils going into the 9th wtih a lead.

Well, Madson didn’t have it tonight… Zimmerman is a good one.

I would have to say this one is on good ole Cholly again. Fine, I can understand taking Kendrick out after 6, but why Lidge and Bastardo only 1 Inning each? Then Madson, which by the way was 3 games in a row now for BOTH Bastardo and Madson. You know when Madson is on, and when he is off. When he is off, he is as good as Baez. Clearly he was VERY off. Whether he just had a kid or not, if you cant concentrate, dont play. Its not a big deal to lose this one, as we are still 7.5 games up, but what is with Cholly lately. 4 runs is pathetic considering they only got 1 hit after the 3rd inning, but they had a 2 run lead. I’m sorry, after Madson gives up 2 straight singles yank him. once Werthless scored, definitely pull him. Put Herndon in. Herndon isnt very good, but could he be worse than Madson was tonight? When Madson is on, he is completely unhittable, when he is off, he is Baez.

Wow Madson is going back to the way he was last year when put in relief,
It’s like when Lidge is on the DL he is a great closer, when Lidge is healthy he has not idea how to close
What a head case

Shove that baby back up Madson’s wife so he can concentrate on the game. And bring on Dave Bush. Hope he still has the walrus ‘stache.

Think about this… If Shane Victorino is not playing, we probably win this game. That lazy pop fly in the 9th doesn’t drop if he’s in center…
