2011 Gameday, News, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (83-46) vs. Cincinnati Reds (67-66)
Cole Hamels (13-7, 2.62) vs. Homer Bailey (7-5, 4.44)
Time: 7:10 p.m., Great American Ballpark
TV: CSN/ESPN
Weather: Sunny, 72
Media: Twitter and Facebook
Thank God, some effing baseball…finally! The Phillies now hit the road for the start of a seven-game road trip and will do so with a healthy Cole Hamels, who starts tonight.
He threw a bullpen late last week which Rich Dubee called “fantastic.” That’s always a good sign. Hamels has also been fantastic against the Reds during his career. They just can’t hit Cole; he’s 7-0 with a 1.43 ERA in the regular season, having given up just 33 hits in 56 innings. Ridiculous. And that doesn’t even take into account his shutout in Game 3 of last years NLDS in Cincinnati.
But the circumstances here have changed, slightly. Hamels hasn’t pitched in 16 days, so rust could be a factor.
Bold Prediction: The Phillies will hit 4 home runs tonight as a team. I think they easily get to this Bailey dude, with Mayberry hitting one of them. Bombs away!
NL STANDINGS:
The Milwaukee Brewers are scorching hot, winners of 26 of their last 31 games, they haven’t lost back to back games since late July. They are now only five back of the Phillies, the Braves are six back. Arizona leads the NL West by 4 over the Giants.
Lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Pence RF, Mayberry, Jr LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Hamels P
Your Gameday Beer: Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
This is odd, yet kind of cool at the same time. It was once a drink for lactating mothers way, waaay back when. Sam Smith makes a damn good beer and this one has a nice, silky texture, with a bittersweet finish. A four pack of this stuff will run you about $10-12 but it’s well worth it. It shouldn’t be served too cold either – the temp should be about 55 degrees. Eat it with Italian food or a nice Tuna Steak and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Thanks to @PaoliBulldog for his choice of Samuel Smith (even though he went with Nut Brown Ale) – By Pat

LOLLOL
Sarge says his problem isnt his foot his problem is not swinging at strikes
Rob Dibble got fired in DC for telling the truth.
I understand they are employees of the team but the Mccarthy Wheeler tributes get to be annoying.

I’m too busy following the Michele Bachmann parody that many people (both right and left) think is real. Now THAT’S hilarious.

Schmidt hit .236 in his career in the playoffs and world series. 4 HR’s and 16 RBI.
Howard has a 278 avg 7 HR’s and 27 RBI. Howard did have a really good WS and a suck ass one. So did Schmidt. Schmidt had a great WS I’ll give you that, but that was it. He hit .050 in the 83 WS. Think about that…LMAO Overall, Schmidt was the definition of CHOKE in the playoffs. That team in the 70′s grossly underachieved, Schmidt was a good part of that.

Nice homer. Getting back to Martinez. He can’t bunt. At all. He should be able to but he sucks at it. Charlie should not put a guy in that position. He should have sent Lee up there if he wanted to do that.
