The Phillies offense lacked on Tuesday night, but they sure came alive on Wednesday, pounding Arizona 9-2.
Jimmy Rollins opened the scoring with a lead-off home run. The Diamondbacks quickly responded, taking the lead on Paul Goldschmidt‘s home run. It didn’t take long for the Phillies to tie it, as John Mayberry Jr. singled in Hunter Pence to tie the game at two.
The Phillies started pulling away from the Diamondbacks in the seventh inning. The biggest hit of the night came from an unlikely hero. All the Phillies needed was a sacrifice fly, but they got more. With two men on, Wilson Valdez smoked a fly ball over the head of center fielder Chris Young. Pence and Mayberry scored, giving the Phillies a 4-2 lead. Ben Francisco added a sacrifice fly to increase the lead.
Mayberry (3-for-4), who started in place of Raul Ibanez, continued his hitting into the eighth. He added another single, which brought in a run. Brian Schneider, Rollins, and Shane Victorino also drove in runs during the frame.
The run support was plenty for starter Cliff Lee, who went seven strong. He allowed just two runs on three hits and two walks. He also struck out seven in his 13th win of the season.
Antonio Bastardo and Ryan Madson closed out the victory. The series is now even at one as Ian Kennedy and Vance Worely will match up on Thursday.
HOWARD OK
Ryan Howard says he thinks he’ll be fine, but will have his hand checked out after he felt a strange pain in the sixth inning following a swing and miss. After the game, Howard said no further tests were coming, but that if it still feels weird further tests will come.
Should know more on this tomorrow after Howard arrives to the park and takes some hacks in the cage.

Valdez isnt the greatest hitter everyone knows that. However something about him once about the 7th inning rolls around he becomes clutch. Wouldnt be a bad choice to have up game on the line 9th inning scenario.
