John Lannan (9-13, 3.68) vs. Vance Worley (11-2, 2.85)
Right off the bat, a shameless plug. Tomorrow morning at 930, I’ll be on the 94 WIP morning show with Angelo, Rhea, and the rest of the crazy morning team. We’ll be talking Phillies, of course, so tune in and listen to me represent the Nation!
Now onto business for tonight…if there is any. No one really sees to want to play baseball right now – it’s truly an ugly time to be a Phillie. Last night, two humans named Ross Detwiler and Tom Milone shut down the Phillies for three runs in 19 innings over two games. Despicable. I know everyone is mailing it in, but geez, it’s really ugly.
Anyway, for tonight Vance Worley gets the ball, and could be his final start of the season. He is likely to come out of the bullpen in the playoffs, so Rich Dubee and Charlie Manuel could look to get him a few appearances in the later innings before the season ends.
The rotation for the final games (tentatively) is Oswalt, Hamels, Kendrick, Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, Hamels. That way, Halladay and Lee will be set up to pitch games 1 and 2 of the NLDS on one extra day of rest on October 1 and 2.
PENCE UPDATE: Here is Hunter Pence speaking to the media today about his left knee patella tendon strain that is keeping him out of the lineup after the jump:
LINEUP: Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Mayberry 1B, Ibanez LF, Francisco RF, Schneider C, Worley P
Your Gameday Beer – Post Road Pumpkin Ale
Oktoberfests aren’t the only beers appropriate for the month of October – you’d be surprised how you can make a beer that tastes like pumpkin but isn’t gross. The Brooklyn Brewery secret for this beer is to mask most of the pumpkin flavor with spices such as cinnamon, brown sugar, clove and nutmeg. Though not the best pumpkin beer out there, it is definitely one worth trying on this crisp afternoon of playoff baseball. Have it with some roast turkey, like in one of those Gobbler sandwiches from WaWa. – By Brian
