2011 Gameday, Analysis, Opinion, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (93-48) at Milwaukee Brewers (85-61)
Cliff Lee (16-7, 2.47) vs Randy Wolf (12-9, 3.47)
Time: 7:10 pm, Miller Park
TV: PHL 17
Weather: Clear, 69
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies have a chance to do something today that I didn’t think they would do until the end of the season. And that is winning their 94th game. That’s right, I predicted that the Phillies would have 94 wins and narrowly beat the Braves to win the division. So much for THAT prediction.
On the hill for the Phils will be Clifton Phifer Lee, who is in the middle of another one of his outstanding streaks. Since the beginning of August, he’s had six starts. He also has six wins. And a 0.37 ERA. He hasn’t allowed a run in his last 29 2/3 innings and get this: that’s not even the best scoreless streak he’s had this year. Back in June he hurled 34 straight scoreless innings. He would need to pitch into the fifth inning without giving up a run to beat that streak.
If there’s any reason to believe that Lee won’t reach that point, it is unquestionably the Brewers big first basemen, Prince Fielder. He has five hits in six at-bats with six (!!) RBIs against the Phillies lefty. Oof. Lee better stay away from Fielder, or we could see a moon ball.
Former Phillie Randy Wolf will oppose Lee, and, while he isn’t on an unbelievable hot streak, he hasn’t been bad as of late. He has had a quality start in eight of his last eleven games, and is coming off an eight inning, one run performance in St. Louis. He might want to avoid pitching to Carlos Ruiz tonight, as Ruiz is 5-10 with 5 RBI against the Brewers lefty.
Lineup: Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Pence RF, Mayberry 1B, Francisco LF, Ruiz C, Valdez SS, Martinez 2B, Lee P.
Your Gameday Beer – Milwaukee Premium Brewing Company Classic Ice
Some might consider this a step up from Natty Light, and you might even be able to find it at cheaper price ($10 30-pack!). That should tell you all you need to know about this brew. It tastes like beer and it’s 6% ABV. Eat as many wings as you can alongside this one. – By Brian

Tonight’s game is one of the more interesting one. Ol Wolf dog can be tough against us especially since he has had a resurgence or sorts lately.

I would say we’re rolling out the B-Squad again tonight, but w/ Clifton on the mound, whatever damage Pence, Mermaidberry, Vic, and Chooch do will be enough to make them look like a veritable murderer’s row.

The Filets have it all locked down. They are rightfully looking to the playoffs and resting people.

CSN Philly has good news-no concussion symptoms- 8 minutes ago
“Chase Utley has been cleared to resume physical activity after suffering a concussion when he was hit in the head by a pitch Wednesday night.
Utley showed no symptoms of the concussion when he was evaluated by doctors in Philadelphia on Saturday, according to assistant general manager Scott Proefrock.
The second baseman will have more tests on Monday and that will give Phillies officials a better idea of when he will be able to return to the lineup. Best guess: Utley probably won’t play until sometime during the coming homestand, which begins Thursday.
“This is good news, very positive,” Proefrock said after conferring with the team’s medical staff Saturday. “He’s making progress.” “

Whew! That’s a relief! But I’m glad they took proper precautions. Especially since our winning percentage wasn’t hurt by it!

That’s pretty impressive by McGehee. Not easy to knock a ball out of Ruiz’s hand.

I find the KKK talk very helpful: t makes it easy to identify fake jeff. Real Jeff never tosses around that racist crap.

I just got in and saw what this guy writes. What a jerk. That play at the plate is so dangerous. Ruiz got crushed. There should of been two outs in that inning. So happy chase is ok. Thank god. Thanks Andrew for the compliment.

When Randy was pitching in Philadelphia – I remember him hitting 85 or so but that was about it. He’s actually been having a decent season as a # 4 in Milwaukee.
