Philadelphia Phillies (98-60) at New York Mets (76-82)

Roy Halladay (18-6, 2.41) vs. Mike Pelfrey (7-12, 4.58)

Time: 2:10, Citi Field
TV: PHL 17
Weather: Cloudy, 75
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Can we get a win, please? The losing streak is up to eight now–and I’m getting tired of it. If there is anyone that might be able to turn the tables, it’s Roy Halladay. He’ll be on the mound for the Phils today, and his 2.41 ERA tells me he will get the job done. He’ll have an easy time with David Wright, who has just three hits in 23 at-bats against the Phillies righty.

Opposing Halladay will be Mike Pelfrey, who is coming off a pretty ugly performance in St. Louis–he gave up five runs in six innings. The Phillies have pretty good numbers against him, so they should be able to score some runs. Another reason why we should see some runs scored today is the fact thast he has a 5.08 ERA against the Phils in his career. He’s been even worse this year–in five games started against the Phillies, he is 1-2 with a 6.84(!) ERA.

If there was ever a game to be a slump-buster, today is the game.

Lineup: Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Pence RF, Howard 1B, Victorino CF, Ibanez LF, Polanco 3B, Ruiz C, Halladay P

GAMEDAY BEER: Irish Car Bomb

Anyone else see the Temple-Penn State game this afternoon Phillies play baseball the last week?? That on top of Arsenal’s collapse against Blackburn Rovers this morning the fact that it’s been losses to the Cardinals, Nats and Mets, and suffice it to say I could use an Irish Car Bomb. Or seven.

    Liking this lineup!

I like this slightly altered lineup. Someone was suggesting somewhere that Utley and Pence share hitting 3rd, and putting Vic behind Howard w/ Pence 3rd is a damn good choice.

I feel a win coming today though. The lineup is solid, Doc is on the mound, and I think they’ve had enough of this losing nonsense.

Oh, and a 3 run top of the 1st doesn’t hurt, ha ha.

While this is a “meaningless” game to a point, I think that a strong showing by the offense and Halladay will help to set the tone for this week. While they could lose their last four and still be ok I think that going into the NLDS strong will only benefit them.

Nice comeback by the Eagles in the first half.

Every batter in this lineup has a hit today in the top of the 4th. Now Jimmy has 2.

I’m so happy we’re finally getting some hits and actual runs. My god it’s about time.

For those that chose the Eagles game, you missed a good one, the Phils have 3 field goals in the top of the 4th.

I’ve never been happier with a meal of crow.

Not to mood-swing to wildly in the opposite direction, but it appears like the BABIP gods have been appeased. Everything is falling in: bloops, broken bats, quail shots, etc.

Offense looks good. Some really nice D as well. Doc pitching his game. Can’t say the same for the Iggles. Lousy loss to the Giants. Pitiful.

    Hmn… I guess Bastardo’s problems aren’t so easily fixed after all…

No rest for the weary. For one batter it looked like Bastardo had his swing-and-miss stuff back. Then the hanging slider returned. Ugly, ugly stuff. Hope this doesn’t become a game before inning’s end.

I heard recently that their theory about Bastardo’s problem was that he had a “tell”. They thought this would be easily fixed. Back to the old drawing board.

Can’t trust Bastardo with an inning anymore. Make him a LOOGY.

It looks like the cortisone shot they gave Howard did not work at all. Maybe just shut him down for a week, don’t need him in Atlanta.
