Galvis Returning to Lineup Soon

According to TheMorningCall.com, Freddy Galvis will soon be returning to the lineup after having a cyst drained in his right wrist. He missed roughly a week with his Venezuelan League team Aguilas De Zuila.

There had been some concern about the wrist, but it appears it has been taken care of. Galvis could be an option at shortstop for the Phillies in 2012 if they do not re-sign Jimmy Rollins.

Ganglion cysts hurt like crazy, and frequently recur. However, as evidenced by Galvis, they are easily treatable. My brother gets them in his wrist from time to time, and its just a matter of getting it drained.

Glad to see Galvis back in action. I hope he hits like .600 in fall ball so we can rest a little easier regarding the outcome of the J-Roll situation.

One third of ganglion cysts are not painful. Classically folks would smash them with a Bible, hence the term Bible cyst. Aspiration possibly with steroid injection usually works and can be repeated if necessary. Not to worry , unless there is some other problem they are not telling us (how could that be?)

I do not think Glavis is a vaiable option at SS in 2012 unless they find a bat somewhere else in the line up like at 3rd base and Poly can be a utility guy, even then you need a bench SS. But if you can find the money or a healthy power/avg guy to play third. I do not think you can lose the offense of JRoll next year. Just my two cents

I honestly don’t know that I am as concerned about the offense of JRoll, as much as I am concerned about his leadership and his presences! The Phillies do historically do better when he is in the line-up vs him being on the DL, and that is not always because of his offense, but leadership. Sure, he has come up clutch at times, and this season seemed significantly different from last season where as, he had stopped swinging at the first pitch as often as years past. Could that be why his numbers had gone back up from his 2009-2010 numbers? Wierd, show patience, and you might gett better pitches? Gee never would of thunk it. Having said that, I would hate to see him leave! The fact that he had RE-learned patience at the plate, to me shows some others can learn it. Vic had shown some good patience during the regular season (or at least up to August), then seemed to get impatient and swing at first pitch. Odd that his numbers dropped off the planet from .305 through August to .279 to end the season. Postseason was decent, but you can still look at the games where he had shown zero patience (Game 2 being the biggest, and I believe game 4). I hope he re-learns it. Lets hope the entire team does! The team will need leadership badly to begin the season with Howard out! Howard may no be clutch at all, but he is still a leader in the locker room and on the field! Chase will need to be 100% if J-Roll is gone, and Howard is still recovering!

I have to agree with Beta, although you have some points Brian. I do believe assuming Chase is healthy he can be the new “leader” of the team. I do not think this team can absorb a weaker bat at the SS pos. We need the best hitter we an get and that is J-Roll. However i dont want him to stranglehold this team with a contract that is too long. It’s a tough spot for RAJ to be in. Unless we get a hitter to compensate for Galvis hitting which im not sure we can pull off. Yet this offense needs change somehow but is Galvis the change we want.
