Brown OK After MRI; Howard to Stay in Boot

UPDATE, 1:15 pm: Ryan Howard will remain in a walking boot for at least the next week, according to GM Ruben Amaro (through the beat writers in Clearwater, FL). The infection in the foot is gone, however, they want to play it safe and make sure the area heals completely before they get into baseball activities.

Regardless of what the Phillies say, it’s a setback in some way. It pushes him back and we’ll delay his conditioning work, so don’t expect Howard to be ready before May.

According to David Hale of the Wilmington News Journal, among the variety of writers in Clearwater, an MRI on Dom Brown’s hand showed no structural damage. He could return to game action next week and will swing a bat today.

The MRI did show some scar tissue from last years hand surgery, along with some swelling. Hale says to expect an update from Ruben Amaro Jr. at some point today to discuss the plan for Brown.

Sounds like the Phillies, and Brown, dodged a bullet here. You’d hate to see Dom miss more time because of a hand injury. We’re all looking forward to seeing a progression, and that obviously cannot happen with another DL stint. Let’s hope Brown is back in the lineup by next week.
