Philadelphia Phillies (9-11) vs. Chicago Cubs (7-13)

Joe Blanton (1-3, 4.34) vs. Randy Wells (0-0, 3.60)

Time: 7:05 PM, Citizens Bank Park
TV: TCN, MLBN
Weather: 80% chance of rain, 41 degrees
Media: Twitter and Facebook

Even with Roy Halladay on the mound, the Phillies were unable to beat the last place Chicago Cubs. After showing signs of life during the last few games on the West Coast, the Phillies offense only managed one run against Chicago. The Phillies hope to inch closer to .500 today with Joe Blanton on the hill.

So far, Blanton has pitched better than most Phillies fans had expected. Subtracting his first appearance of the season from the bullpen, Blanton would have an even 4.00 ERA. Blanton has only walked 3 batters in 18.2 innings, which is always a good sign. Blanton has had solid career numbers against the Cubs, posting a 3.04 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 26.2 innings.

Blanton will be opposed by Randy Wells, who is filling in for the injured Ryan Dempster. Wells was a Rookie of the Year Candidate in 2009, when he went 12-10 with a 3.05 ERA. He has yet to follow up his rookie season, as he has been spending time in the Minor Leagues. After his rookie season, the Cubs had expectations for Wells, but he never lived up to them. Wells makes only his second start this season, but he has a lot to prove and will try to win a spot in the Cubs’ rotation.

Lineup:

Your gameday beer: Kentucky Joe takes the mound, and what better way to celebrate the man than with Bluegrass Nut Brown Ale, right from his home state’s Bluegrass Brewery. Laced with caramel and nutty flavors, this English Brown is much like Newcastle, but probably a little sweeter. It goes well with a fat burger. A big, fat, Kentucky Joe burger. Yeah, kid. – By Tim

Evil Jimmy is back. I think that if you’re not hitting in the three hole that you should get dropped in the lineup and…… not moved to leadoff ??????

Whatever makes Jimmy happy. Its so important for Jimmy to be happy. Jimmy’s happiness is really important to this team. We need Jimmy to be comfortable. To get him going. I know that, in my business, if you wanna get ME going, remind me that I can be replaced if I’m not doing the job. NOT be given a glass of warm milk and some cookies.

@Dipsy: Meh, Charlie’s shuffling things, to see if he can get a lineup that works. He did that last year when they were slumping. If it gets the job done, I won’t complain. But that remains to be seen.

Not talking bad about Abreu i think he had a great career. However, i hope Rube doesnt get the idea of bringing him on. We all know RAJ has a liking to these type of guys. Even though i think if he even thought it for a second theres no room roster room for him regardless.

Roster room i meant…Jeff Dipsy has a point…We all know if Jimmy isnt batting lead off he isnt happy. Even though other than maybe a few times in his career he wasnt ideally suited for that role..

    Your worse nightmare.

All you do is bash certain players. Try playing the game.

A nice 1-2-3 by our 50 million dollar man -
It seems every time JB and KK lay a bomb, they come back with a decent game.
Good win tonight – Chooch definitely gets the homer award tonight.

Can anyone name a player who SHOULD have batted leadoff during Rollins’ career because he would have been a much better leadoff hitter?

    I seriously doubt it.

    Jayson Werth, maybe?

i.e. who would have been a better fit in the leadoff spot than in whatever spot they actually hit in.

In 2003, Marlon Byrd with a .366 OBP. It took Bowa three months to figure it out, but he finally did. Dropped Jimmy to six or seventh? I can’t remember exactly. That’s the only time I can think of.
