Philadelphia Phillies (6-7) vs. San Diego Padres (3-11)

Cole Hamels (1-1, 3.65) vs. Edinson Volquez (0-1, 4.24)

Time: 10:05 PM, Petco Park
TV: The Comcast Network
Weather: 58, mostly clear
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Phillies go for a franchise-record 13th straight win in a non-home ballpark when they take on the San Diego Padres at Petco Park tonight. The run of success has been remarkable, as the Phillies haven’t lost a game at Petco since August 16th, 2008.

The man on the mound for the Phillies has been a big reason for the success they’ve had at Petco in recent years. For his career, Cole Hamels has gone 3-1 pitching in his native San Diego, with a 1.82 ERA. His lone loss came during his rookie campaign in 2006. Since 2008, Hamels is 3-0 at Petco. He’s allowed just one earned run over 24 innings during that span, good for an 0.37 ERA. In ten career starts against the Padres, Hamels has never allowed more than three earned runs.

The Padres counter with the mercurial Edinson Volquez. Though Volquez has been touted as a guy with a lot of talent, he has had a career riddled by injury and inconsistency thus far. In two regular season starts against the Phillies, he is 2-0 with a 3.64 ERA. Both of those starts came in 2008, however. In his lone other start against the Phils–which came in the 2010 NLDS as a member of the Reds–Volquez took the loss as he allowed 4 earned runs over 1.2 innings pitched.

Keep an eye on Ty Wigginton tonight, as he has gone 3-for-6 off Volquez with two home runs in his career. Also of note: Polanco stays in the two-hole, despite hitting just .186 on the season. He has a total of two hits and no walks in his last five starts. Ruiz gets the night off after catching 10+ innings on Wednesday, and taking a beating behind the plate in last night’s game.

Lineup: Pierre LF, Polanco 3B, Rollins SS, Pence RF, Victorino CF, Wigginton 1B, Galvis 2B, Schneider C, Hamels P

Your Gameday Beer: Walt Wit

Brewed locally by the Philadelphia Brewing Company, Walt Wit is a hoppy, full-flavored beer with an orange back-note. It’s a good transition beer, thick enough for the winter months, but refreshing enough for a warm spring day. The name is an obvious nod to poet Walt Whitman, who adopted the Greater Philadelphia area as his home later in his life.

GO PHILLIES!

This was nearly automatic at one time, Poly moving the runner over

So the Phils could not move the runner over to third base. That is really sad. Not as sad as Hunter swinging at the first pitch

Fortunately, you won’t have to deal with it.The Phils would have had an easier time with the Sox. Their snaitrtg staff is in disarray (was) and they don’t run as well as Tampa. The key would have been getting to the ninth inning with a lead.Tampa’s snaitrtg pitching is more consistent and they’re faster and their hitters are as good as the Phils. So, let the dust collect on that Red Sox cap.Just so you know, they’re coming back to the ballpark next year for 3 games.

Can we start a fire Greg Gross camp? The Phils have NEVER hit well for him. He su-su-su-sucks! Bring back Milt!

Is the reason Gross or aging/health issues? Difficult to separate. Not to mention the decline of hitting and scoring across the league.

After all, under Gross the Phillies had the league’s highest-scoring offense for the 2/3+ of the season that they were at full strength last year.

Who does RAJ have photos of and how can he survive this season?

Wow I am showing up again?

Thought I was banned or the site was just messed up.

    What an embarrassment.

So you score 0 runs in a game 5 of a playoff series with 3 games at home and Halladay and Cliff starting 3 of the games.

But you bring in Nix, Wigginton, Thome and Pierre and sign a closer long term?

Ive picked up 5 closers already in fantasy. Jim Johnson and Matt Capps would have cost yuo a bag of used balls.

With the Phillies salary cap situation to field this line up is a disgrace. But Ive been telling you guys this was coming for a long time. Its just happening a year sooner than I thought it would.

At this point need to trade one of the big 3 pitchers to try to improve the line up. But RAJ is not capable.

And for those of you waiting for Howard and Utlery to come back and make it all better. LOLOLOLOLOLOL

I remind you that they were right there in that game 5. When the phillies terrible morose pitiful line up wasnt going to score for 100000 innings.

Its like RAJ is one of the fans from one of these blogs. He GMs on that level.

The handling of Dom Brown alone shuold get him fired.
But throw in the series f terrible long term deal and its a joke.

2 hits in one inning though now! Go phils

Well I went to another blog and the fans were even dumber than some of the kool aid drinkers here. So you have that going for yourself.

I mean really you are happy with this?
    Its acceptable?

To have the best salary situation in the sport and field this?

But of course somone made a column here putting the Phillies line up ahead of the Natinals and Angels LOL

I get that most of you are clueless and dont get it.
    Not to mention boring.

BTW thats 3 runs and 5 hits since I posted.

    You are welcomed

    Hi Brooks. Missed you.
Hope to hang around and have some fun.

Got to try to have fun. This offense is down right offensive.

Really think since Hamels is leaving anyway need to deal him.

Can try to survive in playoffs with 2 aces and maybe some hitters. As of now the Phillies have one. Pence.

    @ the rookie

You were really excited to have Rollins for 3 years?

No one wanted him. And he too is now un tradable with the other fossils/cripples and thier big long term contracts.

  • Posts: 0 Andrew from Waldorf

Anyone young. Glavis and bring in anyone. Literaly any 20 something major leaguer who plays hard and wants to win.

You cannot hoard ALL old guys. If they had moved some of the her old fossil sacred cows. He could have stayed but you cannot keep them all.

The Nats doing all this without Harper and Morse too.
    Very scary.

I will give the Phils this. Thanks to the Padres they do not have the worst line up in baseball for sure.
But the Padres have no pay roll. The Phils have the highest.

IMO Glavis is the best player so far on the team.
Look at the Mets jsut having young hungry no named players. It works.

Its a troll to predict everything thats happened for 3 years?
You kool aid drinkers crack me up.

You just love your guys like RAJ. Sadly hes the GM though and you are sweetpea on a blog. But hes at your level.

The sad part is this is it.

Next year its even older and worse. And the big arms are building innings long term.

I am guessing you are one of the guys waiting for the big piece too LOL
Yes I am laughing at you.

Now heres where you hurt though. Ruben dimwit is playing to you guys. Keeping all your old talent around.

The last 3 years have been like watching a person with wasting disease waste away.
But what pisses me off is you clueless types thinking I am not a fan and you are.

    Because you accept this. Unquestionably.

Ill bet anyone that the sell out streak is over by all star break 2013.
To me the real fans are the ones who dont accept it all and just smile and drink the kool aid. Its sickening to watch for me. Sorry you enjoy losing.
    You troll honey bun

Yea like the 6 posts by Brooks last night and the 5 in this thread before I started tonight.

      Whats with you people?

People who have folloed this site since 07 will tell you that I have predicted more than anyone. Including the Giants and Cardinals and the exact scre of game 5 last year.

Why does it bother you that I point out the obvious?
So much so that you call me out personaly.

Because I tell you the truth about your team.
I didnt write the article telling you this line up was better than the Angels and Nationals. I tell you the truth.

But most of you cant handle the truth and want to just sit there and think its still the best team in baseball. Guess it makes you happy.

Try to ignore me or be interesting when not addressing me. I cant imagine a comment section more boring that this site is when I am not posting.

But hey you have the best team in the sport! enjoy!
Afterall Howard will be back by the all star break.

You definitely stir it up Andrew but you need correction on one point: The reason the Nats are the toughest competition in the NL east is because of Davey Johnson. You cannot deny it my friend.

  • Posts: 0 Andrew from Waldorf

The Nats have been doing it right for years Brooks. Ive been saying it for years.
And I think itwill really show up next year. More so than even this one.

I also think the Werth deal is not as bad as people think. Yes he is over paid. But he is going to fit them well. And they are going to be good.

Davey is hanging around told me alot. And yes he is very good.

I remember once in the playoffs for the Orioles. He stacked a line up vs Randy Johnson and stole a game.

I do get a kick out of being called a troll as Ive been here forever. And I pay to watch the Phillies LOL I dont live in Philly I pay for this.

I cant sugar coat it though.

The Padres may lose 120 this year. They are horrible.

    Winner winner chicken dinner.

For my detractors will point out that when I started posting in this thread. It was 1-0 Padres and the phils had 2 hits in the 6th inning.

You can thank me via email.

@ Brooks if the site is working again ill check in some. That was 14 games worth of rants there. Out of my system.

Phils need to sweep this series. No doubt about it. You have to beat the teams you should beat.

Everywhere Johnson has managed he wins and, he was one of my alltime best second basemen for the O’s back in the late 60′s early 70′s. I don’t know what they used for juice in 1973 …

  • Posts: 0 Andrew from Waldorf

With Doc going tomorrow a perfect game may be in the works.
Game 4 may be a problem in sweeping though.

Blanton vs someone named Bass who I think may cause trouble.
    Skells always do.

  • Posts: 0 Andrew from Waldorf

Johnson sticking around for the Nats told me he thought they would contend. This year and next. I think if Strasburg holds up there will be a WS title in the next 3 years.

They used greenies in the 70s.

Davey had one big home run year ALA Brady Anderson.
Know what Brady was on though.

All the drugs messed up Lenny Dykstras brain IMO

Can I tell you something about our Andrew?
    Annoying
    Needle-nosed (stubborn)
Dense (once he sinks his teeth into something, he’ll beat it like a snare drum, over and over and over…)
Repetitive (did I just say that?)
Easygoing (NOT!-he gets worked up pretty easy)
Winsome – he drinks fashionably – well, OK, he is a blubbering idiot (not unlike myself)
Andrew is a Phillies fan, disgruntled. He has been here for years (6? maybe 7?) – has lived through some great times and has called it like it is. Not always easy to take or listen to – he does like the confrontation, stirs it up and – its our Andrew – back to goad us on –
Now for my cool aid – Once Howard comes back and does start to knock the tar off the ball and the Phils tear up August and September (I know Andrew, I’m pushing it) – Andrew will be right there with us, cheering them on – you’ll see and finally get to appreciate our buddy Andrew from Waldorf.

He’s Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! It’s our one and only Andrew form Waldorf!

    I agree with Brooks,

Folks, this guy is a Phillies fan and has been commenting on PN a long time. But just like jeff, he speaks his mind, he pulls no punches, and asks no favors. He doesn’t hide and pretend to be someone else, he’s not a poser, and I can respect that.

Yeah he gets more frustrated than the average fan. BUT if you read carefully you will see that sometimes AFW knows his stuff, and as much as you may not like it, he speaks the truth when he does. I call him on it when he doesn’t. But watch out when you do, you’re going to get 10 responses from him when you do that!

I call him the “broken record” for those old enough to remember skipping vinyl. Cause he’s gonna tell you the same thing over and over and over again.

Welcome back Andrew my man. Good to see you here.
