2012 Gameday, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (7-9) at Arizona Diamondbacks (8-8)
Kyle Kendrick (0-0, 1.93) vs Wade Miley (1-0, 3.12)
Time: 9:40 PM, Chase Field
TV: TCN
Weather: N/A
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The scheduled starters for tonight would have been Cliff Lee for the Phils and Daniel Hudson for the D-Backs. Two pitchers that can throw up a bunch of zeros on the scoreboard on any given night. And with the way the both offenses have been playing recently, there might have been a whole lotta zeros between the two teams.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), both Lee and Hudson won’t make their starts tonight, and will be replaced by Kyle Kendrick and Wade Miley.
Kendrick hasn’t faced the hitters on the D-Backs all that much, but one guy that has owned him so far is Miguel Montero. He’s 4-6 with a double and a home run off Kendrick. The Phillies righty has also had struggles in Arizona, where he’s given up eighteen hits and eight runs over 13 innings at Chase Field. However, we should expect a different Kyle Kendrick on the mound tonight, as he’s been very solid for the Phillies ever since the beginning of last year.
Tonight will be the first time Wade Miley will face the Phillies, and he’s coming off a performance against Atlanta where he gave up three runs in less than two innings. Before that, he had pitched seven scoreless. He’s a young lefty, which means the Phillies could struggle against him a great deal, especially with the way the offense has been playing.
Lineup: Pierre LF, Polanco 3B, Rollins SS, Wigginton 1B, Victorino CF, Ruiz C, Mayberry RF, Galvis 2B, Kendrick P
Your Gameday Beer – Orval Trappist Ale
I’ve said it before, monks know how to brew beers and this Belgian Pale Ale is no exception. First it hits you with a apple/pear scent then a complex taste of citrus, caramel, and earthy yeast – all in a creamy buttery consistency. Wow. I hear it goes well with Thai food, but this is certainly one you can drink alone. – By Brian

What I love about the phillies this year. More time with my family. Turned
It on 4-0. Turned it off. Kendrick is a hack. Vic is a hack.

I wonder if I should just change the channel? First inning is over and the Phils are already losing 4-0. Nost every team in the major league knows by now that if they can score at least 2 runs against the Phils they got the game in the bag. I think they should shake things up by getting rid of Greg Gross and having Rueben beg Mike Schmidt show these guys how to bat!

I was just figuring that Wade Miley would be channeling Denton True Young like Collmeter will be tomorrow. And the next skell after him.

This team is unreal. And needs a major overhaul.

What else is bothersome? How about why is Kendrick at bat? We aren’t far enough in the hole yet Cholly?

Hey there Brooks! How have you been?
This whole team is bothersome…I could write a flipping novel but I think everyone here has pretty much outlined it recently!
I wish I could blame all of this on Cholly (although some bad managing in SF…He gets somewhat of a pass). But reality is….we have no offense. Even Pence swings at the first pitch. We need patience at the plate. A new hitting coach?

Gross is morose! Bring in Schmidt to re-teach how to hit! I’m running out of different kool-aid flavors to sustain me from realizing that we might not recover from this disgusting display this season so far. I tried to summon the ghost of Ed Delahanty one of the best hitters of his time and as a Phillie, but he just said, “You’re f***ed!” and jumped off the train. lol.

Ed Delahenty who got drunk and in a fight and kicked off a train.

Nice to see Cody Ransom getting in his licks.
He hit a big homer for the Phils in 2010. Vs the Reds is memory serves me right.

You mean Ruin Tomorrow Jr., doesn’t think we need any bats? Again? Guess he thinks they’ll need all that pitching in the WS…oh, wait a minute. That won’t be happening RAJ if you CAN’T EFFING SCORE ANY RUNS THIS YEAR!

Actually improved each year. Playoffs are a crapshoot. The Phillies have been one of the best of the recent successful teams in moving through the playoffs.
These are the past 5 playoff appearances for teams that have been successful in recent years:
Cardinals (last 8 years): 3 WS appearances, 2 WS wins
Red Sox (last 8 years): 2 WS appearances, 2 WS wins
PHILLIES (last 5 years): 2 WS appearances, 1 WS win
Giants (last 15 years): 2 WS appearances, 1 WS win
Yankees (last 6 years): 1 WS appearance, 1 WS win
Rangers (last 16 years): 2 WS appearances, 0 WS wins
Angels (last 8 years): 0 WS appearances, 0 WS wins
Dodgers (last 16 years): 0 WS appearances, 0 WS wins
Braves (last 10 years): 0 WS appearances, 0 WS wins
Only two of the other 8 teams have been more successful in the playoffs.
As long as the Phillies have a chance to make the playoffs (and especially if they win the division), they have as good a chance as anyone to win the WS. And their chances for winning the division are still very good.

Ransom hit a homer. Vs Reds with Dobbs in 2010.
Was the best game of the year.
Savery saves the day!
Come on Phils you can score 9 runs.
Well if it was 900 inning games and not 9.

@ Shenkman he is kiding I think.
Making a joke that the General Moron I mean manager would bring in another starter.
For the record 4 aces was stupid from day one. Just saying.
2 aces and a lineup that can maybe get an occasional 3 run inning is whats needed.
Or has a clue at the plate or is even professional hitters.

Well, last year they had the 4 aces, AND, once Utley returned, the highest-scoring offense in the league.

Why is Ruiz still in the game?
He is 33 a history of head issues and needs his time managed.
but would need a manager who understood that to do it I guess.

I wonder who the 3rd catcher is if Schneider gets hurt after he replaces Ruiz? It used to be Werth, and then Ibanez. But I don’t know any more.

I guess getting thrown out at home is a the cherry on top of the Sunday
As to who the emergency catcher is at this point I do not know.
Schneider is one of the players I never have a bad thing to say about.
He fills his role almost perfectly. The Phillies need players who know their roles.
If the Phillies intend to have Rollins occupy a spot near the top of the line up for the next 3 years. I am sorry but I have little hope for a franchise that thinks thats viable on a winning team.

The 2009 and 2010 Phillies disagree with your last sentence (not to mention 2011, but he bounced back last year).
He may not belong near the top, especially against lefties, but a) I don’t think it matters that much where he hits, and b) there weren’t (and aren’t) many better options at short.

Is it time for the over-under?
I will say 75 wins – from what I see so far, that might even be a stretch.
Just kidding, I am really expecting more along the lines of the team getting tepid at some point and putting 85 wins together somehow.

If the fan graphs and scouts are right and Roy is slowing down. and the Lee Injury lingered?
I honestly think that minus Doc and Cliff this team is on a Padres and Mariners level.
And it shouldnt be that way.

If you string together enough Ifs, the 27 yankees look like the padres.
Put another, take away each team’s two best players and let’s see how they do. Oh wait. I guess we’re now talking 4 best players (or top 3 and very good one).
