PN Interview: LHP Prospect Ethan Stewart

Left-handed pitcher Ethan Stewart was drafted considerably late (47th round, 2010) by the Phillies. At three levels in the developmental ranks, the 6-foot-6-inch 210-pounder has performed like a talent that was selected much earlier.
Last season in 13 combined starts with the Gulf Coast League Phillies and the short season Williamsport Crosscutters, Stewart posted a 5-4 record with a 3.39 ERA while striking out 60 batters and walking 27 in 63 2/3 innings pitched.
Thus far in 2012, Stewart, a native of British Columbia, is sporting a 0-1 record with a 1.10 ERA through three starts for the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws. He has also held opponents to a .172 batting average.

NO !!! No way I could do a job as well as Jay Floyd. I really like his contribution. These are just questions I would like to hear answers to. Hope this is considered constructive as it is meant to be just that.

I agree, Joe; I’d gladly trade Myers for a coimvtitpee 3B and wouldn’t miss him. I believe Myers has peaked and will be a career 6.1 IP, 110 ERA+ starter good for 180 innings/season. Other teams still see him as a rising star; if Myers is to be traded, it’s this off season. Even if Myers lives up to hype, the Phillies could still net value given the proper trade. My only hesitation is the lack, yet again, of a reliable 4th/5th pitcher once he’s gone. Perhaps that’s what all these “tryouts” are about (Brito #2, Mathieson #2, Mazone, Germano, and maybe even Floyd #2). I don’t think any in that bunch are the answer, but here’s hoping for catching lightning in a bottle.Rollins and Victorino are untradeable for different reasons. Victorino is a nobody on the grand stage; he’s worth way more to us than in any trade. We can’t realistically improve production from SS; it’d take someone like Jose Reyes or Hanley Ramirez to do that. I think Rollins would work best offensively at #6 or even #5 if we can’t get a replacement slugger for Burrell.
