We will never forget. (Phillies Network)

We do this dance every year.  We have grown accustomed to routinely having the conversation that starts ‘well traditionally the Phillies always start the season slow and then make a late push.’  When does it get old?  For me, it was old in 2008.

Its been a struggle all season for the offense.  Obvious reasons are that the Phillies are missing Chase Utley and Ryan Howard deeply.  Lance Nix and Ty Wigginton are just not capable of filling the gap.  And god bless Freddy Galvis.  He is trying hard as well.

Longtime Phillie Pat Burrell announced this week that he will sign a one day contract with Phillies to retire in red pinstripes after a long and fruitful career.  His retirement will take place May 19 at CBP before the Phillies take on the Red Sox.

Feddy Galvis has been impressing fans with his glove all season and made us wait a few games for his bat to start hitting.  Galvis hit his first ever Major League home run earlier this week and leads the team with five RBIs.  He already has three extra base hits and has heard name chanted in CBP a couple more.

Just yesterday we got the final word that the Phillies had signed infielder Mike Fontenot to a Minor League deal.  The Phillies have been searching for depth in the middle of the infield ever since Chase Utley ‘figured out’ his knee wouldn’t be ready for Opening Day.

Here are your game notes from this week:

Mets strike early, blank Phils 5-0

First inning haunts Lee, Phils can’t catch up

Blanton bests Buehrle

Offense rolls behind Halladay

More offensive woes in Phillies 6-2 loss to Marlins

Phillies 3-5, 4th in NL East

This past Friday was the three year anniversary of when baseball lost one of its most familiar voices.  The Philadelphia sports community lost Harry Kalas and to many people he was baseball in Philly.

The Phillies are starting to show signs of life.   It was a big win today that the team will try and ride out west when they take on the Giants.  Go Phillies!
