2012 Gameday, Posts
Washington Nationals (26-17) at Philadelphia Phillies (21-23)
Edwin Jackson (1-1, 3.31) vs. Cole Hamels (6-1, 2.48)
Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN, ESPN2
Weather: Cloudy, 74, chance of t-storms
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies, who are already on a season high four game losing streak, hope to avoid a sweep at the hands of their new rivals the Nationals. The Phils nearly got swept earlier this season in Washington, but a solid start by Cole Hamels and a mini offensive explosion helped the Phillies to victory.
Hamels will be on the mound again tonight, which means the highly anticipated round two of Hamels v Harper will indeed happen. As for the other hitters that Hamels will face, most have not fared well against him in the past.
The highest average by anyone with more than ten at-bats against Hamels in tonight’s Nats lineup is Ryan Zimmerman at .269 (Rick Ankiel is 4-10 and Bryce Harper is 2-3). I would expect Hamels to continue his dominance tonight.
For the Nats, Edwin Jackson will get the start, and he’s fairly unfamiliar to most of tonight’s lineup. They only have a combined 50 plate appearances against him, with Freddy Galvis having never faced him before. The last time he faced the Phillies, he shut them down in Game 4 of the NLDS. The Phillies are hoping that tonight goes differently than that night.
Lineup: Pierre LF, Polanco 3B, Pence RF, Ruiz C, Victorino CF, Wigginton 1B, Galvis SS, Fontenot 2B, Hamels P
Your gameday beer: Yeah man. Here’s Dogfish 90 Minute IPA. The 90 Minute is a sterling beer, flavorful and not overly strong in taste. But it hits you, and it hits you hard. It’s 9 percent, so it gets you good after a few. Drink with caution. And eat some mussels with it. – By Tim
GO PHILLIES!

Standing “O” for Cole. And Ruiz just keeps doing it all.

Agreed Lefty but Cole is probably not going past the 7th – probably his pitch count will be over 110

Sacrifice bunt by a number 5 hitter is bad strategy. At least a decent chance that VIctorino would have driven in the run. A lot of failures the last five games in getting runners home from third with less than 2 out.

Small ball sucks bigtime. I guess I’ve been spoiled by GOOD hitting P’s teams too long.

apparently you have not been watching the Phils for a while.
This is what is needed to win – move the runners over and a key hit.

Brooks your such a homer, you can’t see the trees for the forest. Of course I’ve been watching the P’s at least for a few years now.. Lets see first game as a child !951,so thats 61 years ass wipe. All I meant was its better to watch the old Phils than this fraud, non hitting, last place to be in division this year and probably many to come. I hope I live long enough to see them rise to power again, but I’m not hedging my bets.

How sweet is that for the Phils. A leadoff triple and the Nats cannot put him across.

I think Papelbon has quite the ego. Didn’t he study up on LaRoche? The guy feasts on fastballs. Unreal

A solid win overall tonight from the suicide squeeze to Cole’s dominant performance. Kudos guys!

Good to see the fans rise to the top! This is what the Phils have become, this is how they can win with this lineup. Deal with it, its a win.
I wish I had a million but what good does that do? Times change, players get older, hurt, new ones come up and adjustments have to be made. Good to see them doit instead of playing like frauds, letting themselves think there is something left in the tank for some good old fashioned smash mouth long ball. It aint happening with this crew. And any FAN who has been watching knows this.
Actually, this is such a change, I enjoyed this win a lot.
Pour another one AFW!

If you enjoy that Brooks than when October comes every year you and the Phils can get alot of golf in because they won’t be playing for you to enjoy. Small ball is history in baseball. Just look at the top teams todAY IN BASEBALL.
