2012 Gameday, Posts
Red Sox (19-21) at Phillies (21-20)
Josh Beckett (3-4, 4.97) vs. Cliff Lee (0-1, 1.95)
Time: 1:35, Citizens Bank Park
TV: TBS
Weather: Possible Showers, 79
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies offense is collecting the hits. 21 hits over their two games have yielded 11 runs. This is exactly what they needed to keep pace with the Red Sox in this interleague series match up. Up to this point, the Phillies split the first two games and will send Cliff Lee to the hill for the rubber match.
Lee will be up against Josh Beckett and both pitchers are very familiar with the opposition. Beckett has over 100 innings against the Phillies and Lee has seen Boston in over 70 innings. This just means both team are well versed in each pitcher. This game could be another hitfest like last night.
Lee has pitched well all season but his first win has continued to escape him. He has allowed two runs or less in four of his last five starts getting a no decision in all of them. Against the Giants, he pitched 10 scoreless innings which the Phillies would end up losing 1-0.
The Phillies are averaging only 2.6 runs a game when Lee starts and are 1-4 in his five starts.
Ty Wigginton has four home runs in his career against Beckett and Shane Victorino has also taken the right hander deep once.
Lineup: Rollins SS, Pierre LF, Victorino CF, Pence RF, Wigginton 3B, Mayberry 1B, Galvis 2B, Schneider C, Lee P
Your gameday beer: Monks Blood
Had this beer at an engagement party last night. So good. - 21st Amendment founders Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan traveled to Belgium to develop the recipe for this special beer, visiting small, traditional breweries in the hop fields of west Flanders, not far from the famous Trappist abbey of Westvletren. Monk’s Blood is designed to pair beautifully with rich winter stews, creamy cheeses, unctuous desserts or just by itself, in a Belgian tulip glass, with a good book by the fire.
GO PHILLIES!

Clarify this KC, are you saying this could be a hit fest for both sides?
Cliff Lee gave up 4 runs in 7 innings of work in April and that was his only decision – a loss. Other than that 1, 0 (the 10 inning game), 2 and 1.
Beckett on teh other hand has given up 7 runs, twice so far this year, 2 appearances giving up 3 runs – his ERA is more than doubled Lee’s – 4.97 to 1.95
What are you talking about? If the Phils don’t give Lee even minimal run support, he will fail to get his first win. Personally, I feel Lee breaks that schnide today.

Schmenkman, i hope your watching the game so you can see the offense and defense of that as you called him ‘MIDDLING” Middlebrooks. You haven’t answered any of my notes to you since he came up!!! Don’t want to admit your wrong about him do you? Doc for Middlebrooks and another top AAA pitcher RAJ!! Make the call although it may be too late now.

Brooks would you have said “good Shane” if he was thrown out??? I don’t think so, it was dumb 5 down to be running.

Not really..they’ve been hitting a lot of ropes and hard grounders right at someone. Trying to steal a base 5 down is DUMB everytime and if you think different you don’t know baseball.

I know the Phillies Chuck. Been watching them, coming to this site for a few years now. I know how they played up to this point was to get on base and wait for someone to get the big hit.
That is how they failed in last years playoffs, the year before and the year before. They need to make something happen Chuck.
I have been watching the Phils very carefully.

I’d much rather the Phils play aggressively to win.

@ Brooks
You have Rollins, Utley and Howard locked down.
Long term.
Just need them to be healthy.
I promise.

@ Donny Wheeler
He is locking down Rollins, Utley, and Howard till 2025.
Carlton and Rose are in negotiations.
That puts you with the best team forever I think.

We all know that Beckett stinks this year. Is this the Phils at their worst (including Lee) or is this the Red Sox at their best?
We’ll see when the relief pitching comes in for the Red Sox, if the Phils continue to gasp for air or if they hit.

Blech. I’ve been listening on the radio and just got home.
Can we at least pull one run out of this so we don’t get shut out by one of the worst teams in the Major Leagues, a pitcher with one of the worst ERAs?

Charlie needs to take lessons from the Red Sox manager. He knows how and when to change pitchers.

The greatest walk in the history of the franchise.
I think back
Ryan Howard leading off the 7th inning down 1-0 Gme 5 of a 5 game series.
I scream to the people close to me they are walking you.
He has to knw this? But no.
He swings away 3-0
Why?
Hes Chuck and Betas hero
And if it went 1000000000 miles youd have lost 2-1
The end.

I love listening to Cholly’s non-sensible answers to the press’s questions. The man is a babbling idiot. I’ve always like Cholly, but I think the old man is done. Phil’s need to get back on track, almost all the next twenty games are against winning teams, not scrubs like the Astros and Cubs.
