-By now you likely know that Vance Worley has hit the DL with elbow inflammation. The injury was reported yesterday and today the Phillies decided to DL him with Joe Savery joining the team in Chicago. There is no word on the severity of the injury, but it’s never good when it’s an elbow. Kyle Kendrick starts in his place tonight.
On a side note, Will Carroll from SI.com tweeted recently that 91 pitchers were currently on the DL. If that number is correct, I expect that Worley is the 92nd. Think about that for a second. That’s a ridiculous amount of injured pitchers.
-The Phillies have reportedly swapped minor leaguers with the Tampa Bay Rays. Long-time Phillies farmhand Rich Thompson goes to the Rays for OF Kyle Hudson.
Thompson had a cup of tea with the Royals in ’04 but hasn’t been back to the show since. Hudson had a brief stint with the Orioles a year ago. He’s expected to go to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Imagine if they had traded Blanton. Very happy that we still have Big Joe.

Back at it again Andrew! And you have been so good. Strange to bring it up when he is not even playing. What is the point?

Andrew,
Hudson has played only OF in his professional career.
And thank you for listing Ryan Howard’s salary for those that may have been curious…

Yo, Pat. You might wanna correct that link for Rich Thompson. Not a big deal and idk how many people even care but I was trying to click it to check out Thompson’s stats with the Phils and I found that link goes to another Rich Thompson (a pitcher)

I was a huge advocate of trading JB – last year and the beginning of this year but I am sure glad nobody listens to me!
With Worley out, are the Phils going to get another starter?
Doc
Lee
Hamels
Blanton
KK ?
If KK fails miserably, will he still be thrown in the starters rotation? I wonder what Freaky Diekey would be like with long relief?

If KK fails, I think Dave Bush is in AAA. He’s the most likely candidate to get the nod but KK would have to give up more than four runs in each of his starts and Worley would have to spend at least four starts on the DL for Bush to get the nod. Personally, I think Bush should be called up for the Nats series and put KK back in the ‘pen.

They have little choice but to go with KK. That was the main reason he was resigned. Or they can go with Bush or possibly Cloyd. They will go with KK for a few starts before going the other options.

It’s maybe a little premature to worry about replacing KK.
But just in case they have to, both Scott Elarton and Tyler Cloyd have been more effective at Lehigh Valley than Dave Bush has been.

Its such as you read my thoughts! You seem to grasp a lot about this, like you wrote the e-book in it or something. I think that you just can do with a few % to force the message house a little bit, however other than that, that is magnificent blog. An excellent read. I’ll certainly be back.
