Brown has another setback.
Unfortunately, we’re never lacking new topics to discuss when it comes to Domonic Brown. You can add a new injury to that list, as the Phillies top prospect injured his left knee in Thursday night’s Iron Pigs loss. It’s the same knee Brown injured earlier this season, causing him to miss an extended period of time. As Jeff Schuler of the Allentown Morning Call writes, that could be the case again.
Brown, 24, was hitting .295 with four homers since May 20 – a great step in the right direction. Things had been moving along so well for Brown that many were calling for him to take over in left field in Philadelphia. Now, another setback to a guy who can’t seem to catch many breaks.
Since it appears he will miss some time – although its anyone’s guess as to how long right now – it’s unlikely he would be a candidate to join the Phillies anytime soon.
Overall, Brown is hitting .266 with a .730 OPS.

ok now dom brown is down! i’ve never been a fan of brown cause of his fielding and hype. but i will admit he looked to have found a niche in center and was hitting pretty good and seemed to be a candidate to inject some youth onto the phils which gave me some hope, and i was pulling for brown to make it back to the bigs!
with that said. now i have to ask. what in the hell is going on with this org ?. i’m not blaming them! i beginning to think someone out there has a voodoo doll and is pin pricking the phils bobble head or something! allmost at every turn this year it seems like no matter who or whatever player it is that seems to matter to the org. goes down with some injury for significant time. i’ve never seen anything like it!
i have ragged on the phils alot this year on how they’ve played, but i gotta tell ya with the amount of goofy injuries that has happened along with howards injury last year it’s no wonder that they are where they are! we basically have our bench playing the season! they were intended to be subs! and add that to the slow starts of some of the regulars….well there ya go.
which now leads me to believe that if this person whoever is pin pricking our boys goes on vation for the rest of the summer, and forgets the bobble heads at home, then we’re gonna come back roaring in the second half when our boys start coming back! woohoooo! it would be a really fun thing to watch if they do get it together!

Yeah, just when it seemed Freddy Galvis was much more than we were told, and Dom Brown started to live up to what we were told – Boom!! Injuries. Polanco – injured. Halladay – injured. Not to mention, of course, Howard and Utley. What a season!

Can somebody tell me WHY we let Scot Podsednik walk away?????? That guy was sooo good in Chicago, had an injury, played his was back into shape last year in our farm system, hit about .340 or whatever, this spring, not good enough to make our squad though, let him go for peanuts, and, wow, what a surprise, he’s hitting about .374 for the Red Sox and leading off. We, on the other hand have Domonic Brown, the human boo boo, and John pop-up Mayberry. Great moves by our talant evaluators. Come on Rube!!!!

The Phils went with Pierre instead of Podsednik. In case you haven’t noticed, Pierre is doing quite well himself, and has done so in more ML plate appearances. Mayberry was kept for his power potential and ability to play 1st base. Pods and Pierrehave no power, and can’t play anywhere but the outfield. Also, in case you haven’t noticed, Brown is not currently on the team, and so shouldn’t even figure into your comment.
Podsednik has done well, so far. I’ll grant that. But he’s also old, injury prone, and would have been superfluous on the Phils because of Pierre. And you don’t get much of anything for ANY ancient, singles hitting outfielder.

George, Good points. But I like players who can hit. Podsednik can hit. I’m very happy with Pierre in left field, and in my opinion, he should play everyday because he hits righties and lefties almost equally. That being said, I think Podsednik should have been an extra on this team from day one. We needed offense since day one. Nobody could have predicted Lance Nix being hurt, but I thought Podsednik should have been called up then to fill his spot off the bench as a pinch hitter and spot starter.He can also steal a base, which could come in handy. You should always be able to find playing time for a good hitter. Plus, he’s there to fill in in case of, dare I say this word, injuries. I, not saying, he’s Babe Ruth. Just that we had him in the system, we could have kept him here if he was called up by, I think June, and with Lance Nix down, I thought that might have been a good move. Lastley, I am tired of waiting for Mayberry’s potential to finally arrive. He’s killed us this year. Charlie has actually pinch hit him for Pierrre so he could put him in for defense late in the game. I personnally would rather see Pierre up to bat and put Mayberry out there afterword. Just my opinion. This is what makes baseball fun.

I think everyone is tired of waiting for Mayberry.
At the beginning of the season and through April, though, he hadn’t had much time to prove or disprove himself. With his stats at the end of last year, he deserved more than a one-month chance. Now, it looks like a different story.
But he’s out of options and can’t be sent to AAA without the possibility of losing him for even less than the Podsednik return. And he does play 1st, which is important when the only other option currently is the ham-handed Wigginton.

I think regardless of when D Brown comes back, filling the CF spot is pretty far down the “need” list. Once Vic does find his groove and works on getting his average to stabilize at around the .280′s, he is more than adequate to fill the spot. LF is well taken care of and Pence is not moving in LF.

It’s unfortunate he’s hurt,but let’s face it, he can’t play baseball at the major league level now or ever. I only wish he could produce at a reasonable level at AAA and stay healthy long enough that we can package him in a trade that brings us major league talent. Overall, he is a huge bust and a major disappointment.
