2012 Gameday, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (31-36) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (33-32)
Kyle Kendrick (2-6, 5.08) vs. Brett Cecil (0-0, 0.00)
Time: 1:07, Rogers Centre
TV: PHL 17
Weather: Mid 70′s, chance of thunderstorms
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies look to avoid a sweep today as they take on the Blue Jays after dropping the first two games of the series. They’ve lost 11 of their last 14 and own the sixth-worse record in the National League.
Usually, the Phillies can count on their pitching to at least keep them in games, but lately that has not been the case. Over the last 10 games, Phils pitchers have a 4.95 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and have given up 32 extra base hits.
It doesn’t look like it’ll get any better today, as Kyle Kendrick is set to take the mound for the Phillies, and he’s coming off two outings where he gave up 11 runs in 9.2 innings. He has made two starts against the Blue Jays in his career, and has given up six runs in an eight combined innings. However, seven of those innings was in one start–that was last year at the Rogers Centre, and he gave up six runs. Hopefully today goes different for Kendrick, or the Phillies will be staring in the face of a sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays.
Lineup: Rollins SS, Polanco 3B, Pence RF, Thome DH, Victorino CF, Ruiz C, Luna 1B, Mayberry LF, Martinez 2B, (Kendrick P)
Your Gameday Beer- Molson Canadian
This is a truly nonspectacular beer, but I had to get my dig in on those silly Canucks somehow. Not particularly tasty, but certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Sort of stereotypically Canadian, actually. Á votre santé! – By Michael
Go Phillies!

Two gameday threads with two different beers! I figured I should post in the one with the best beer selection, and then I looked and the choice was between Molson & Labatt. Talk about the lesser of two evils. :(

Kendricked again!! 5 runs! To make it worse, TMac and Sarge were in an endless babble loop about sunglasses. Time to hit the bourbon. Happy Father’s Day to all.

So I hear that Charlie had a long talk with the players last night. It appears that the result was, now, in addition to pitching and fielding like crap, they’re also not hitting.

Yeah, smart move, Charline. Bring in Pappy in the bottom of the 8th, because there’s not going to be a bottom of the 9th.

I am loving this. Ever since Ruin tomorrow started destroying this team with bad contracts and trades. Plus getting rid of all of our young players, I wanted this.
Now you span, trade hamels for talent young hitter and pitcher.
Trade Pence away for something.
Get rid of Lee.
You give a guy alot of money to spend on a team and this is the result. He was a horrible ball player and now GM. Go away span.

Lee is due $25 million over the next 3 years. I wonder how many teams would want to take on that kind of commitment ? When you dish out these big contracts its awfully tough to move them unless someone is desperate.

Pretty sure Boston or NY would give him a serious look. Maybe teams like Anaheim, Los Angeles or Texas? (although Texas already has a pretty deep rotation). All of those teams can certainly afford him. And if the Phils eat some of that salary (maybe like $5-7mm a year?) I’m sure they’d be able to rope in another handful of potential suitors.
That being said, I don’t really want Lee to be traded anywhere because (1) Amaro got shit-all for him last time and (2) he’s still a really damn good pitcher.

My friend sent me a text yesterday (was out, did not see the game) “Little League”. How true.
Kicking the ball in right field? Not to mention watching this pitcher throw the ball down the middle of the plate and doing nothing, absolutely nothing.
I think next year I will not renew my ticket purchases. Why would I want to pay top dollar to see this type of ball play? I can watch it on TV like most of you do or catch it on the internet if I really have nothing to do. This is a waste of good money right now and I ave 19 games left this year with not much to look forward to.
I will have to admit, 2 men on base in the top of the 9th got me excited, well, just a little.

Now you know why contending teams are not clamoring to get Kyle Kendrick at the trade deadline. Moreover, I sincerely doubt that Kendrick enhanced his chances today of being selected to the 2012 National League All Star team.

Can anyone explain to me why he brought in Papelbon today and not yesterday?! I’m speechless. This team is a conundrum. I’m not going to have a liver or hair left after this season. Niagra here I come!

For old times sakes Don.
Tell me how great they all are and its just a mindless injury.
You cant realy prepare for or over come injuries.
Best team in 2010 and 2011 lost.
2012 just hurt.
They will be back!
