Shane Victorino was originally slated to bat seventh and play center field, but was a scratch at around 12:30. Jason Pridie will take over for Victorino. Todd Zolecki says it was a late switch by Manuel, he has not been traded.
As for the game, Vance Worley will look to right some wrongs and put the Phillies in the win column, a place they’ve seldom been in recently. They’ve lost nine of 10 and will try to get a victory heading into the all-star break, which would provide some semblance of momentum heading into the break – I think. I don’t really know what momentum is anymore because the Phillies haven’t had any of it this season.
Lineup: Rollins SS, Pierre LF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Ruiz C, Pence RF, Pridie CF, Fontenot 3B, Worley P
Your gameday beer: Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer in a Can
Hell or High Watermelon Wheat is a summer seasonal beer available from April through September by 21st Amendment, and can be yours in six pack cans and on draft. It’s an American wheat beer, which undergoes a traditional secondary fermentation using fresh watermelon, ending in a straw-colored, refreshing beer with a kiss of watermelon aroma and flavor. Haven’t had it yet, but I’ve heard different reviews. If you’re feeling frisky, try it out on another hot, hot day. -Pat Gallen
GO PHILLIES

The Phils need to move on some trades. Trade ‘em all. Start anew. Philly is accustomed to last place teams and always supports them… Make some money for the owners. To hell with the loyal fans. Ownership gave them enough by winning the division for five straight years. Let’s have another two decades of cellar dwelling. Gives Philly something to complain about.

It seems Shane Victorino made a serious mistake this morning.

Yes, he did! However, I’ll take the tear Pridie is on today over “pop-ups” any day. : )

@Lefty: Oh? Have you heard something, or just the fact that he was pulled at the last minute?

I heard what Ken said below.
What are the chances Charlie just decided to give Shane 5 straight days off?

Victorino’s a goner. Down the toilet with the rest of the crap going on this year.

Personally, I tend to believe the not necessarily reliable rumor that Vic voiced his displeasure with hitting 7th in the lineup.
So much for the apparency of the Manager having lost control of the club. Give the oft mouthy centerfielder something to think about as Pridie contributes.

WHEW! OK, time for the Phils to take back the lead. We need to go into the ASB on a positive note.

Apparently, there was some secret ceremony where Chipper Jones handed over his Phillies-killer extraordinaire powers to Brian McCann. Stay strong Vanimal!

Ugh. Looks like we’re not going into the ASB with a win.

Well, see, this is the problem with the degree of pain of this season. Even if you have an underachieving pen, it’d be nice to at least hope for a comeback, as opposed to the 0-8,000 the Phils are if trailing after the first pitch of the game. Look at the Mets…they have a less than good pen, but they have played some exciting comeback baseball, as we suffered through this week. Maybe today’s the day the trend breaks, but that’s been the biggest hurt so far this year. Get behind, and good night, nurse.
Not telling you anything new, but thanks for the vent space.

I’m not being entirely fair. They occasionally win with a 1-run deficit. It’s a 2-run deficit that is death for this team this year. But they so rarely come from behind, it’s hard to have any hope.

Thank goodness for the all-star break. Time to figure out what we need to sell as sellers.

The mention of “momentum” made me consider Newtonian physics. I realized almost immediately that with this team, it’s more like inertia, or at least the part of the definition that states “A body at rest tends to stay at rest.” Carrying it a step further, I’d say that the Phils seem to have reached the realm of sci-fi/fantasy now, because they’ve somehow managed to go back in time to the mid-seventies, when they couldn’t get a win even when the other team forfeited.

Bacardi – He didn’t do anything wrong. Some dumb-ass tweeted a false story that he had a “temper tantrum” about being placed in the 7 hole. The dumb ass reporter has since backtracked on his story.
Charlie denied it too, said he just felt Vic was down about his play of late, so he pulled him from the lineup.

Looks like he walked into the clubhouse, saw he was hitting 7th, and threw a tizzy. The old Jorge Posada strategy, 2012 edition.

According to Zolecki, Victorino was concerned about his own play, so Manuel gave him a day off. Rumors that he was unhappy about hitting seventh weren’t true.
That’s the story for the press, anyway. It’s a known fact that Charlie doesn’t rat out his players to reporters, so who knows?
In this case, however, I tend to believe Zolecki. Victorino has a loud mouth at times, but he’s generally a team player, and he’s been so lousy this year that he probably is concerned.
