San Francisco Giants (51-41) at Philadelphia Phillies (41-52)

Tim Lincecum (3-10, 5.93) vs. Vance Worley (5-5, 3.47)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: PHL 17, MLBN
Weather: Thunderstorms, 73
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Phillies return to Citizens Bank Park to face the San Francisco Giants, who are currently in first place in the National League West. The Dodgers will throw a lot of good pitching at the Phillies throughout this series.

This isn’t the same Tim Lincecum who won two Cy Young Awards.  Lincecum has had a poor season thus far, holding an ERA that is approaching six.  He has a 1.52 WHIP and opponents are batting .262 against him.  His struggles have occurred on the road, where he is 1-6 with a 9.00 ERA.  The one thing that is still there for Lincecum is his strikeout totals.  In 104.2 innings, Lincecum has 115 punch-outs.  Lincecum is 4-2 with a 3.02 ERA in his career against Philadelphia.

Vance Worley is coming off a solid outing against the Rockies.  Worley has been reliable for the Phillies all season.  He has been expected to provide the Phillies with quality starts.  The biggest question in this series will be the Phillies’ offense against the tough Giant pitching and the bullpen, including Jonathan Papelbon.

The Phillies and Giants always seem to have interesting series.  Since 2007, the Phillies are 18-19 against San Francisco.  The games tend to be close.

Victory Lager

Your gameday beer: Harp Lager

I was never crazy about the new label redesign–I preferred the old blue-and-cream label to the new electric green. This one recalls nothing so much as Bud Light Lime. However, I’ve always been crazy about the taste of this lager, which is lighter and than Yuengling without giving up anything in terms of taste, hoppiness, or machismo. -by Michael

Is it his fault yet brooks. Maybe Charlie can get off of his fat ass

This team is terrible. The giants suck.

    The beat goes on.

At least Rollins is abolutely untradable.

I mean without him where would they be?
    Last place?

Have a few for me Brooksie.

Long second half of the year coming.

And no matter what some try.

This same group next year a year old and less wiser is not a contender.

what was ian saying in his article about not trading j-bag?

somebody wanted to know if there are any one SS better or at least as good as j-gag? when was j-gags last 5 RBI game? his one hit was of the poly type! soft flare barely made it out of the infield. looks like a liner in the box score! DUMP HIM
what would you use to time polanco running to first? hourglass or sundial? he’s starting to make david bell look fast!
and last but not least our beloved great manager. uses four pitchers in one inning in LA playing tony larussa. and tonite he lets worley boil when he was apparently done ( the ump was squeezing him) but you would think he would have went and got him? nope hge was thinking about it according to the 2 brains in thetv booth, but i think he forgot! whoops SALAMI

Who’s the one guy that you wanted the Phils to sign this off season that they didn’t that you feel might have made a difference in the club’s 2012 year.

For me , it’s Ryan Theriot. Not that he’d have made a great difference necessarily, but he would have brought some qualities to the club at a fairly reasonable cost (2 mil?) that aren’t real visible this year. He’s not real good defensively, but he hits well, has spark, and I suspect would have completely blended in with his teammates in the clubhouse. Very decent bench player. Not a differencemaker, but a plus guy.

Is he that different from Fontenot?

        Is Rollins different frm Fontenot?

Couldnt you be 15 out and in last with Fontenot in every game instead of Jimmy?

And not be saddled with 3 more years of this crap.

Fontenot, who I don’t think is equal to Theriot as an offensive player wasn’t available in the off season. The Giants cut him right at the end of spring training.

He’s not too bad, makes a contribution, but I think Theriot has more spark.

It’s not like I think Theriot is a super sub, but I think he’s a pretty useful player.

yea ken he would have been ok too i think! but the one they should have got was cabrera! he would have solved the left field problem.

    @ Kenny

For me it is moot who they brought in.

But Furcal at SS for half the money of Jimmy sounds nice to me.

Using the extra 5 million on whatever. and the contract isnt as long. Freeing up room for glavis sooner.

It was about not bringing back all the primma donalds and sacred cows.
    And here they are.

Was thinking today about your photo of Charlie Hustle.
the game has jsut changed now. There are no Pete Roses or Kurt Gibsons anymore.
I would think that Utley could possibly be that guy.
But between the attitudes and the atmoshpere here it couldnt happen.

1980 Pete Rose couldnt even play on this team. Hed go insane and be in a fist fight a day.
    Its sad.

Id have a drill instructor from Parris Island on the roster. In the dugout, on the plane and in every team meeting.

i disagree AFW there is one unfortunately he’s on the nats! that would be harper. other than him i agree with you on all the other stuff. i even like the phrase ” primma donalds” i chuckle whenever i hear that now! it DOES have a nice ring to it.

Furcal is a terrific story. More power to him for the great start he got off to, coming off a terrific second half with the Cards.

But the bottom line on him is he, like Jimmy in recent years, carried high injury risk. He didn’t stand out as a candidate, he seemed more like he had a nice Indian summer.

I doubt too many thought he resuurected his career.

I’d describe your point as true with the aid of hindsight.

Per the Pete point, in 1980, they said the same thing about most all of Pete’s contemporaries thatr your saying about today’s players. I think a vast majority of players appreciate their chance to play, and put appropriate effort into it. This Phillie group doesn’t seem to have great spark, but as much as you wanna see professional pride and all that good stuff all the time, the core that remains has gone through about 5 years of life change at a pretty important time of life. Married, let alone married with kids really does make a difference. I don’t know that this would be majority opinion, but a small degree of understanding should come with that.
To Pete, all that mattered was baseball, which as a fan, was cool to watch. But it doesn’t seem a stretch to say that came as a price.

        Furcal 2 years 12 million
        Rollins 3 years 33 million.
        Big difference

Not so much I wanted Furcal though. I wanted anyone else but Jimmy.
But people seem very interested in who else culd be there. I am more worried about who IS here and how long they are locked up with bad contracts.

They arent hungry and havent been for awhile and the spark has been gone since Giants 2010 series.

they should have lit this punk up tonite!

all i have to say is hurry up sign cole!

then have the fire sale! j-bag, poly, vic, mayberrym possibly lee ( i cringe when i say lee) but if he can get you an olt or a profar or both. then do it! oone of the other guys should at least get a bullpen arm worth something! and bring up sandberg to manage the other young guys they bring up!

i think as fans we’d appreciate them trying to build up for 13-14

If all of the money is tied up in four players (Halladay, Lee, Rollins and Hamels assuming he is in fact resigned, who else can Amaro afford to bring back? Next year- Rollins SS, Mayberry CF, Utley 2nd (only after July1, 2013 before that who knows? maybe Michael Martinez) Howard 1st, Chooch C, Laynce Nix LF, Pence RF, Polanco 3rd.
