2012 Gameday, Posts
San Francisco Giants (52-41) at Philadelphia Phillies (41-53)
Matt Cain (10-3, 2.56) vs. Cole Hamels (11-4, 3.07)
Time: 4:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: FOX
Weather: Mostly Sunny, 80
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The contract talks and trade rumors haven’t died down for Cole Hamels. All he can do today is pitch, as today’s game is expected to be a pitcher’s duel. Today’s matchup might come down to whoever can score first with these two aces on the mound. Hamels has been the Phillies’ most reliable starter this season, and they need him to stop their two-game losing streak.
Matt Cain has been one of the best pitchers in the majors this season. He has 124 strikeouts in 126.2 innings, which is an average of 8.8 strikeouts per nine innings. He has the best WHIP in the National League (0.955). Opponents are hitting just .210 against him.
Cain has been a little shaky in his last three outings, going 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA. Although he has been in a little “slump,” his numbers during that 19.2 innings stretch are still respectable. The All Star is having an incredible year, so the Phillies’ offense needs to be up for the challenge.
LINEUP: Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Ruiz C, Pence RF, Pierre LF, Fontenot 3B, Hamels P
Your gameday beer: Budweiser Budvar. Wait, a good Budweiser? This one is a Czech pilsner, so good luck finding it. But hey, it’s a cool summer lager you can enjoy with any summer fare. I’d go with pizza tonight. – By Tim

Some big trade talk about Victorino to the Yanks. They need OF help and are willing to send back a relief pitcher as the article goes. How about Qualls for Vic?? Lol, I crack me up!!!

Glad that last line drive wasn’t hit toward Pence or it would have been a triple. Nice grab by Pierre who seems to know how to run a correct route to a ball.

We need relief help drastically and I see Brett Myers is traded to the White Sox today and very cheaply, with Houston paying a lot of his salary this year and he’s under contract for next season. Can someone tell me why he’s not back in Philly red this afternoon? Is Rube asleep at the wheel again??

Love the pitcher cringing when he makes contact.. Cain knew the second that Howard hit it that that thing was GONE AND IT’S NOT COMING BACK!!!

The Core is far from over. Phils just needs a better compliment around Big Brown and Chase who both go yard on Cain today.

We just can’t stand to be in front can we, Cole? Can’t blame it on the bullpen but wait KK and the bastard are warming up.

@Chuck: Yeah, he’s got no one to blame but himself. The runs are all HRs and BBs.

It took Ruben Minaya Jr. $176,000,000.00 to create this
Why would anyne think he can fix it?
Its embarrassing
And your whole teams there now
sad
But wait
Jimmy Rollins is absolutely untradable
As if anyone would take their garbage LOL
In a way the fans deserve this.
Absolutely untradable.

Paging the Sabermetric people
What over hyped crappy closer can Ruben Minaya get the Phillies next year for $50,000,000.00 ????
Cause 50 million on a closer is where a last place team needs to be.
The guy next year needs to get hurt though.
Needs to fit in.

How many losses does Papelbum have this year? Millions of dollars a year to pitch a couple of innings a week, and he’s single-handedly taking the wind out of this team’s sails.

I think I would rather Brad Lidge. We can bring him back right?
