2012 Gameday, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (37-47) vs. Atlanta Braves (43-39)
Kyle Kendrick (2-8, 5.35) vs. Tim Hudson (6-4, 3.87)
Time: 7:05 PM, Citizens Bank Park
TV: Comcast Sportsnet
Weather: Mostly Sunny, 95
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies lost another tough one in their series finale against the Mets. They head back home for a series with the Atlanta Braves before the All Star Break. The Braves are in third place, six games behind the Nationals.
Ryan Howard finally returns to the Phillies’ lineup tonight. Howard will make his first appearance in red pinstripes since he made the last out in the 2011 NLDS, where he painfully lied on the first base foul line. The Phillies could use Howard’s bat back in the lineup, but it may take awhile before he makes a big impact.
The Phillies will start Kyle Kendrick, who has struggled all season. Kendrick has a 7.67 ERA in his last five starts. He tends to have a couple good innings, but implodes during others.
Tim Hudson may be 36 years old, but he’s still getting batters out with his heavy sinker. Over the last couple years, Hudson has been very up and down against the Phillies. Sometimes he will shut down the Phillies, while other times he will struggle. At Citizens Bank Park, Hudson is 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA.
Your Gameday Beer- Today’s beer is Red Rocket Ale. Careful, this Amber/Red Ale is on fire. Its deep cinnamon color makes for a beautiful pour so be sure to release it from the bottle. Its hoppy, caramel malt flavor comes from a complex recipe of five different grains. If you can, roast a chicken with all the fix-ins. -By Brian

At least we fans have had 2 really cool moments to watch for the season now with the first ABs by Utley and Howard. Small consolation, but cool stuff.

I’m glad to see Ryan didn’t fizzle. With such high hopes pinned on him, I was worried he might K in his first AB.

(sigh) Lead-off double and no run scores. Some things never change.

Since Kendrick is threatening to take this to lead protection territory later tonight, I wonder what the plan is for a closer. Papelbon threw 2 nights in a row, most recently 28-29 pitches (9 the night before), but I suspect as part of his short term memory mandate, he’d like to get back out there ASAP. But that’s a lot of pitches to come back off the next night. Gotta get a lead to find out, of course, but even’s not something you can count on with KK, who at this rate, could go 9 by himself. Geez, did I really write that last thought?

That’s it. I’m done watching for tonight. Rich Dubee are you even working with these guys? I’d say demote Bastardo, but who would replace him? Our bullpen is the laughing stock of the NL East. Go drown somewhere bullpen.

So why did Charlie take KK out of the game? He had 89 pitches and the all star break is coming up…

Because his game management skills suck. You do not remove a pitcher that is dominating the opposition when you have the worst BP in baseball. He saw a lefty and thought he’d out smart everyone and bring in a lefty. You friggin kidding me?
Last night Samuel sends the runner with the LF standing with the ball 15 ft behind the SS. You can’t do this stuff when you need need every single run and every single win.

yea joe and earlier he held hamels up when he could have easily scored! and the ball was bobbled to boot! then he pulls that play you mentioned. he has to go the whole coaching staff sucks winds among other things.

manny a reporter asked the brainiack why he took KK out with only 89 pitches. i don’t know if you saw it but it went something like this. when they anounce the pinch hitter i brought bastardo in to face the lefty and i wanted him in there to face mcann when he came up! manny he was the 5th batter of the inning! was he on to something? is he on a higher plane than we mere mortals are? or is he just stupid? he should have known that their manager would go to diaz! then the next 4 hitters after diaz were all hitting way above .350 against lefty pitchers the last month! mcann was not but we know what happened! KK was breazing through seven 89 effin pitches throwing strikes and had command of all his stuff. manny they gotta fire this guy! he’s the reason there’s no confidence, no rally’s etc etc change him and the whole team s attitude changes! vic bats 2cd booooo pierre our leading hitter next to chooch ave wise hitting eighth boooo shoulda hit chooch between utley and howard to force the other team to leave a lefty in for chooch. no wonder they have no spark! every time this team shows life he does something brainy cause he has a feeling! geez i wish rube would get the feeling we all have. SANDBERG SANDGERG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been off the Phillies bandwagon for at least a month. I do not go insane over this team. When they win, I watch and root for them. When they stink, I avoid them. Tonight I had free tickets. Waste of my time. They we lackluster. All you fans should follow my lead. Why waste your time on a loser.

Nice to see they cn lose with Kind Ryan and Prince Chase in the line up.
This team sucks.
Its top to bottom organizarional and I am waiting for something to happen.
New GM or Manager.
Until then.
Can dig up Babe Ruth or inject Barry Bonds and it doesnt matter.
And if you think they can bring back this same core next year and contend?
LOLOL
God bless you.
I wish I could be like that.

This can be fixed by 2013 with the right moves before the deadline. They’ll have a good amount of $$$ after resigning Hamels and gaining assets from trading Victorino, Blanton, Pierre, Fontnot, Polanco… Bull Pens are cyclical and Herndon, Stutes, Defratus… should all return. They get a one year Hall Pass.

Thank you Antonio, for ruining what was a perfectly delightful night out with my wife.
In AB’s last 7 appearances:
6.1 IP
9 hits
11 ER
7 BB
7 K’s
Yep that is roughly a 16.2 ERA
A WHIP of just about 2.67 runners per inning pitched.

Bye Cholly aka Fog horn leg horn, bye Gross, bye Dubee, bye Samuel… Bring in some new staff starting with whomever Sandberg would choose. After you do that Rube and handle the selling of our money albatrosses (Blanton, etc.) and resigning of Hamels, then fire yourself, and disappear. I’m so bitter these past two games. Trying to keep faith till after the break…
