Welp. The Phillies will try to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Braves today after losing again last night. If this were last year, I would have said the chances of them getting the W today would be pretty high, considering that Roy Halladay will be on the mound. But 2012 is a different year, and Halladay, who is off the DL, still doesn’t look “right” to me.
He gave up six runs in six innings in his last outing, and his pitches seemed pretty flat. They didn’t have the normal Halladay movement to them and his velocity even seemed a little down as well.
He will be opposing righty Tim Hudson, and he is 9-4 on the year with a 3.71 ERA. He is coming off a start against the Marlins where he gave up three runs over seven innings and got the win. Considering the year that both these pitchers have had so far, the Braves probably have the advantage today. But then again, I said last night’s game would feature a lot of runs and, well, it didn’t.

I can’t imagine they would trade the only legitimate right handed bat protection for Howard. People need to understand the Phillies are going to get little to nothing for the Pierres , Victorinos and Polancos of this team. Maybe they get a little something for Blanton, but then who takes his spot in the rotation? Kendrick? Then the bullpen is screwed up more than it already is.

DTD yea i can’t imagine trading pence for the reason you stated, unless they were to get a bat in return. which if that’s the case why and who would make a trade like that on the other end? unless it was a major multiplayer deal. that’s the only scenario i could envision. as far as kendrick goes! if the phils brass had brains ????? why would they want to take him from a bullpen that’s struggled all year and put him in a spot that he’s been pretty bad at this year? i’m not blaming you for your comment but again that wouldn’t make any sense. how ever since the season is shot all they can do is to make a few trades minor- major- or whatever to position themselves for the probable winter trades to get back to being competitive. now with that said the remainder of the year should be to find out what we do have in the minors that could be of help next year. one would be to move cloyd up into the rotation if blanton were traded. and i’d also lessen doc’s load and bring up pettibone also. let these two guys get their feet wet and that would help to weigh our pitching depth for next year. i’d try some position players also. rest howard let him heal u some more and bring up darin ruf. same with utley try ceasar hernandez at scd who knows if one or two of these players shows some promise that’s less you have to deal for. and leandro castro . he plays left

Maybe we’ll get some excitement with trades in the the next two days….We certainly aren’t getting much joy watching these Phillies this year.
Maybe we’ll see Pence , Rollins, Pierre, Wigginton, Blanton, Lee and Victorino change uniforms. We’ll probably get some prospects and some bullpen help in return. We gotta do something to right this ship. Too many old, used up sailers on board. I hope that Amaro is smart enough not to get fleeced. On that, my confidence is not high.

we’ll see mr shart! i’m like you man. i’m more excited from possible trades than actually watching the game today. i’m excited that they might actually throw up the white flag as teams ahead of us are doing and try some younger players from our AA and AAA teams. and in the meantime trade some of these guys to change the atmosphere. oh and relocate charlie and bring in sandberg. if anybody knows which players to move up it would be him.

I am beginning to feel that we have seen the best of Roy Halladay. Great pitcher, Great competitor, Great tradebait. Great salary relief if we trade him.
…..and let’s face it, he deserves to be on a contender, which we will not be for at least three years. Send him to a contending team, like the Yankees. He wants to win a championship. His heart cannot be in Philadelphia at this point in time. Let him go, Rubin.

I remember a game back in the Larry Bowa days where they called a foul ball a HR — a 3 run HR, no less. The fans in the stands (I was there) were flipping out. There was no question on replay that it was way foul, but they didn’t do replay then. And it fired up the Phils, and they eventually won 6-3.

He won games 1 and 5 in the playoffs.
You chose to support a guy who swings away 3-0 to lead off an inning down 1-0 in a decisive game 5.

Tracey – you’re right, seeing Doc now is very painful. The last year he had an ERA over 4 was in 2004, he was injured that year as well. He won all of 8 games. It seems the way he is going and the Phils are going, he might be on course to do the same, 8 wins.
