2012 Gameday, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (41-51) at Los Angeles Dodgers (48-44)
Cliff Lee (1-6, 3.92) vs. Clayton Kershaw (7-5, 2.84)
Time: 3:10 PM ET, Dodger Stadium
TV: CSN
Weather:
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies are going for the sweep this afternoon. It’s been awhile since they’ve whipped out the old broomsticks.
Clayton Kershaw continues to be one of the best young pitchers in the National League. As of Tuesday, Kershaw is tied for second in the National League in innings pitched. He is fourth in strikeouts.
The Phillies have seen Kershaw on several occasions. In seven starts against Philadelphia, the lefty is 0-4 with a 4.95 ERA. While Kershaw has struggled against the Phillies throughout his career, Lee has had success against the Dodgers, posting a 0.90 ERA in 30 innings against the Dodgers.
Lee is coming off a quality start against the Rockies, but he still received the loss. Lee’s 1-6 record doesn’t reflect his performance, although he has had several shaky outings.
On paper, Lee versus Kershaw should be a pitcher’s duel, but it could have the making of a high scoring game. The Phillies have smacked Kershaw around in the past, and Lee has struggled at times this year. However, if Lee and Kershaw pitch to their capabilities, a low scoring game is extremely likely.
Lineup: Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Ruiz C, Pence RF, Wigginton 1B, Polanco 3B, Mayberry LF, Lee P.
Your gamenight beer: I’ve been needing one of these for a while: Coffee Bender. It’s a beer by Surly that – you guessed it – tastes just like alcoholic coffee. Who wouldn’t like this? Okay, besides non-coffee drinkers … For dinner, turn it upside down and make an omelet. Western. –By Tim

Because he’s much better than Pierre against lefties.

My friend has a 4 foot tall dog. He has a 3 foot tall fence surrounding his yard. Over the past 8 years the dog has never once figured out that he can easily jump over the fence. That’s what I think about every time they show Mayberry “trying” to catch that homerun.

84 pitches through 7 innings, Lee is doing a great job.

This I find pretty amazing. They are intentionally walking Utley to pitch to Choochie arguably one of the most feared batters in the league this year.

And the next game is against Lincecum who has been stinking.
Schedule definately is way tougher the rest of the way.

@Brooks: That’s exactly what I was thinking when I heard it on the radio! I mean, seriously, Chooch is a better hitter than Utley in any situation, and he’s especially good in the clutch!
But seriously guys… let’s not blow this…

Yeah, they’re not looking deflated lately. They’re allowed to lose occasionally. I wasn’t expecting them go go 72-0 to finish off the season. 70-2 will be fine.

Certainly a good road trip but the story of this season has been losing these extra inning games.Close play at 1st on Kemp’s hit.

Tracey I’d even settle for 69-3.
Papelbon is making me sick. I get that he’s just going through a little mid season- whatever- right now, but I really don’t care for his style, even when he is on. That gunslinger act, or whatever it is he’s trying to do is when he peers in is wearing thin. It takes him forever to throw a pitch, and doesn’t keep the fielders engaged. I know he had a little bad luck there too, but when your fielders are falling asleep it doesn’t help.

If you were asked how to spell cat, and replied c-a-t, I wouldn’t agree with you more. That keeping fielders engaged observation is excellent insight.
The funny thing about Papelbon is I used to watch Al Hrabosky’s drill, and rather enjoy it. Papelbon’s was cool to a point with limited Red Sox viewing. But now? I look back on the Hrabosky enjoyment and just figure I’m more mature than almost 40 years ago. Geez, I’d hope so.

I was studying for an exam and only had access to game cast. I, like all of PN, wanted a sweep today. Quickly getting tired of the multi-personality Papelbon. Liking this surge of the Phils!
