2012 Gameday, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (38-51) vs. Colorado Rockies (34-53)
Cole Hamels (10-4, 3.20) vs. Drew Pomeranz (1-3, 3.06)
Time: 3:10, Coors Field
TV: PHL 17
Weather: Mostly Sunny, 92
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies snapped their five game losing streak with last night’s 8-5 victory over the Rockies. If the Phillies want any shot at making a run, they have to win as many series as possible. A win today would be a good start.
Cole Hamels last pitched an inning during the All Star Game. He retired the side in order. July is passing quickly, and the trade deadline on July 31 is quickly approaching. Will this be Hamels’ last star as a Phillie? We don’t have an answer yet, but every start creates that question.
Hamels will be opposed by Drew Pomeranz, who has little major league experience. He has done well in 35.1 innings in the big leagues this season, limiting batters to a .217 average. Pomeranz has a good fastball and curveball, and is working on a changeup.
Your gameday beer: Here’s 14′ER ESB from Avery Brewing in Colorado. An Extra Special (or Extra Strong Bitter) beer, the 14′ER smells like a hefeweizen but tastes like a combination bitter and sweet beer. So it’s not as strong as you’d think, making it a perfect beer: Bitter, spring smell, light enough to have a few. Enjoy it with some clams. –By Tim
Go Phillies!

seems like the level of Phillie enthusiasm has dwindled considerably. And it should have. We still lead the league in attendance. How long will that last?

“Attendance” is paid attendance, not actual attendance. It includes all the season tickets bought up by Stub Hub speculators.
I for one am glad to see those greedy bastards choke on their investment. Maybe next year, some season tickets will abailable for actual fans who want them.

In the past few years it was considered in vogue to go to a Phillies game. Now im not talking about baseball fans or even casual baseball fans. Im talking about the chics and (some guys) that dont know what a relief pitcher, a closer or left field from right field. I knew when my sister started going with her friends 2-3 years ago something was weird about that. Then she actually told me its kind of the “It” thing. Almost like going to a bar or a club. This year im noticing at least from my FB and other sources not much buzz is been generated by this segment. I believe if the Phils dont go back to their winning ways next year. You will see a drop in attendance the following year. For a while the Phillies had that cool factor almost like the droves of wannabe Yankee fans that werent actually fans but more following the trend. I think this “trend” with the Phillies is fading away the more further 2008-09 (WS win and appearance) is in the rear view mirror. As well if the club doesnt at least advance to the playoffs or starts having losing season(s).

@Bacardi: Those types are easy to spot. They’re the ones wearing the “ill” t-shirts. No real Phillies fan would wear that garbage. :^)

@Big Ed: Yeah, I’m getting tired of these 1-game winning streaks. Let’s go for a 2-game winning streak today!!!

Hopes that we might be over .500 by the end of the year, at least. But it’s nice for a change to see the Play of the Game be a Phils play instead of an opposing team play.
