2012 Gameday, Posts
St. Louis Cardinals (61-52) at Philadelphia Phillies (51-61)
Jake Westbrook (11-8, 3.76) vs. Cliff Lee (2-6, 3.78)
Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
Weather: Isolated thunderstorms, 86
TV: CSN
Media: Twitter and Facebook
Roy Halladay dominated and Chase Utley came up with the big hit to give the Phillies a victory to open the series. Even if the Phillies aren’t going to be in the postseason, it would be nice to end the season on a high note and play spoiler for possible contenders like the Cardinals.
Cliff Lee has been better during the second half of the season, but he still only has two wins. In his five starts after the All Star Break, Lee has a 3.25 ERA, but the most impressive stat may be that he only has four walks in his last 36 innings. Lee’s a strike thrower; he makes other teams beat him by hitting their way on.
Lineup: Rollins, Brown, Utley, Howard, Nix, Schierholtz, Frandsen, Kratz, Lee
Your gameday beer: Pacifico
Cerveza Pacifico Clara is the real name for this beer which was brewed by three German men in Mexico in 1900. In 1954 it was purchased by Modelo (you’ve heard of them, yes), which is now owned by Anheuser Busch. Seems like they own every beer. So I guess Pacifico is like the Bud of our neighbors to the south. Oh, well. — By Pat

Pacifico is Chase Utley’s favorite beer.

I wonder how far that ball would have gone if the rain weren’t weighing it down?

If Fransden plays decent defense and hits around .300 the rest of the year, do the Phils let Polanco go, and use Fransden as a stop-gap until they find a long term solution?

I thought they’d bring Polanco back on an insentive laiden deal, but he’s done. need a setup man, a CF and a 3B.

The Phils have made Westbrook throw 71 pitches in 7.1 innings. Perhaps if he could work up a sweat then maybe the Phils might get to him.
I’m not too far off that thought Keith – so far, Fransden has not given me any reason to dislike what I see at third.

Watching this offense through eight innings could cure insomnia. Cliffard needs to paint the corners better; his pitches are hanging too high in the strike zone. Get on the mechanics for that Dubee. Lol.

Mechanics for the most part was great – he made bad pitches to back to back hitters then came back the next inning and wasnt the same – something went wrong between innings 5 & 6

This exactly what me and some others have been afraid off. Frandsden playing well then Rube decides get disillusioned into making him a starter next year. Then he reverts back into a pumpkin next year batting .230.

Perhaps we should entertain a deal where we ship Cliff Lee to the Yankees to dump his contract and pick up some prospects? It would sure free up money. And Sabbathia is hurt with an elbow issue. The Yankees ain’t winning anything without CC.
