Check out Corey on SNY.tv previewing the Mets series on their “Know Your Enemy” segment:

I love winning! It’s like, you know, better than losing!
-Nuke LaLoosh

I found this quote in an old gameday thread from 2009.  After sweeping the Washington Nationals, this quote seems to fit perfectly for the Phillies as of late.  The Phillies are two games ahead of the Mets in the National League East for third place.  We expected this of the Mets, but not the Phillies.

Vance Worley has had a roller coaster season: sometimes he’s great, sometimes he struggles.  He’s coming off a decent start, so he needs to work on the consistency.  He isn’t as good as he was last season, but he did have some injury problems.  Regardless, he’s still a solid middle to back of the rotation kind of guy.

Your Gameday Beer: Holy Moses White Ale by Great Lakes Brewing Company

Tonight’s beer comes from Cleveland. It’s a Belgian-style witbier spiced with orange peel and coriander. It’s unfiltered, so there’s yeast at the bottom, which some people might not like, but it’s got a great aftertaste. There you have it. So buy your squeeze a bottle of Holy Moses tonight and get ready to watch the Phils battle. -By Michael

Go Phillies!

Ok the start of the biggest series since 2007.
    Go Phils.

    You can do this.

The Mets are wanting to lose and get swept. And make it a 5 game lead.

@PSUJOE: Yes, he’s got a weird thing with his elbow that gives him a bit of pain. He’s playing through it. May have something done about it in the offseason.

The Phils really worked the count well. More than 30 pitches in that inning.

Rollins just had 3 popups in one AB.

I believe this should be Worley’s last game. Bring up Cloyd after the 31st and have him take Worley’s place in the rotation. I am as optimistic as ayone, but Phils need to go like 30-4 to have a shot so save the bodies for 2013. Bring up Ruff and platoon with Howard or LF.

Who is it that is pissing the PN off? Worley or Cholly for using him?
At least he did not wait until the Phils were behind before replacing him -

Worley was getting knocked around pretty good so Charlie finlly made a right move. really think they should shut him down. such a huge long shot for the WC, but like a psychotic fan I check every score every night thinking, what if?

Maybe the Rube will go after Oswalt now.

I still say that the decision last year to allow Oswalt to start a playoff game epitomizes everything that led this team to being a second tier team.

He got the start cause hes a vet. When Vance earned that start.

    Nice going Chase.

    I need this game.

Phils are 2 or 3 moves away from eing the best team inthe league again. Tough to ignore money, but Headley, Adams, Bourn and a LF and phils would be back on top.

OT: Phils essentially traded Singleton, Cosart, Santana and Zeid for1 year of Pence, Shirholtz, Joseph and Rosen.

Ruf with no 37. RU kiding me.

Mark my words, we will never see the same Vance Worley that we saw in 2011. Dumbass Charlie and Stupid Ruben will send this kid out time and time again when he is not up to par. They are too frickin stupid to shut this kid down. Instead he will hurt more profoundly with each unnecessary pitching performance.

SHUT THIS KID DOWN. LET HIM UNDERGO NEEDED SURGERY FOR THE BONE CHIPS IN HIS ARM BRING UP SOME PROMISING MINOR LEAGUERS. DAMN. WE ARE GOING NOWHERE THIS YEAR. WE WILL NEED THIS PITCHER NEXT YEAR.

WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH THIS MANAGEMENT ??? DUMB A$$ES

      Agree 100%

This is a big time screw up by management!
Look at the stats he was awesome the first 10 starts since he has been about a 6 ERA

I thought pitching with bone chips, like Hamels did last year before having off-season surgery, didn’t hurt anything.

Worley says when asked after each start that it’s not a big deal.

      You must know differently though.

And is it because of the bone chips, or the league has seen him enough times that they have adjusted. You seem to be certain it’s the bone chips.

@ Bart they will never ever learn.

They have excelled at running the team into the ground though.

Before we even start discussing winning in the playoffs ( insert Jim Mora voice)

The Dumb asses will have to be out of the picture.

    I do mainly blame RAJ
But Charlie jsut isnt the manager for a second tier over priced primma donna team.

When it was the best in the NL he was your man.
As he massaged all the egos of the players.

Now these players need a foot up their ass.

But I do honestly feel that when Charlie retires he should get a statue at the ball park.

Worley will never be as good as he was last year.
Because that is how it is.

    Hes a 4th starter on a contender.

But why put a guy out there who is young and is struggling like this.
My Mets-Phils better record bet not withstanding.

If I was GM he would have been dealt this last off season when his value was high. At least the dumbass did sell Happ high.
Otherwise he hoards them till they are valueless.

Phils need a deal like the Red sox did with the Dodgers.
Only problem is the Phils dont have a Adrian Gonzalez to entice other teams to eat 3 or 4 of the bad contracts.

    Anyway back to the game.

    I need this win.
    Go phils.
Need to win the head to head games very badly.

Paging a setup man, Mike Adams. When your team is built around pitching you can’t blow this many leads in thee 8th friggin inning. Bastardo and Lindblum are 7th inning pitchers at best.

No doubt that Worley should be shut down. Bone chips in the elbow aren’t necessarily a problem in he short term, but when you see a pitchers confidence being ripped to shreds by getting shelled day in and day out, shut him down.

I realize there is an outside shot the Phils could make the playoffs, but wtf are Howard and Utley doing playing every day when 2013 is more important than hurting our draft pick?

Schmenkman, I am no medical professional. But if you look at the stats you can see that Worley is NOT the same pitcher. I have had bone chips. They can tend to float in an area. They can be very irritating. If bone chips are the issue, or if they are not the issue, Worley is not the same pitcher. Something is wrong. Personally, based on my own experience, I think bone chips might have something to do with it. Either these chips are affecting him psychologically, or he has something physical at stake. Personally, I think the Phils need to step up and get this kid the needed surgery and rehab so he is 100% next year and has plenty of time to rehab.

    Leads down to one game.

    Rosenberg is dealing.

Such a bad team. Top to bottom.

Really hoping the Mets are just a little worse.

    Tomorrow becomes a must win.

Bart can you give some of them a heart transplant and then a few others a brain transplant? Then there are the ones who need both.

So what is the difference between tonights game and the other night when Cholly had such a short leash?
Given up Cholly? Cholly? Oh, he’s asleep – no wonder

Why is Rosenberg on the MLB roster? His minor league career stinks. Does he have a family member on the staff? Sheez, wtf.

This qualifies as one of the better pukes we’ve not seen in a (little) while. Not since AB did it last. 4 runs in the top of the 10th – wow.

With the teams best performing relief arm on the bench after a day off. Horst. Mus have been saaving him for something important. Ugh!

I believe Horst is on paternity leave. I think you just send Rosenberg back to the minors. He looked okay against the first two hitters but then he was just throwing it with no movement.
I guess Rosenberg has been given the opportunity and hasn;t been able to get hitters out consistently.

I wonder what the heck gets into the Mets when they play the Philies. Their bullpen has been atrocious, especially the middle relief, yet they get 5+ scoreless. They haven’t hit at all lately and they score 9 runs against the Philllies tonight. I think the most the Phillies had given up on the homestand until this night was 5 runs. Against 2 teams that have been hitting.

A bad sign was Brown’s failure to get to Shoppach’s ball quicker. My thinking is that he thought it was going to the wall and he misplayed it. Charlies wasn’t too thrilled.

Another bad sign was Lindblom twice walking the leadoff man which led to the tying run.

Now stop messing around and get what you can for Placido, Pierre…

Pierre might get you a low level prospect with no upside, if even that. (Teams are looking for game changers, not slap hitters.) Polanco, with all his injuries, wouldn’t get you anything.

Rosenberg just does not have what it takes…………and too many sh!tty performances.

Charlie Manuel needs to go. He decides to let Linblom pitch around Wright then lets Bastardo Pitch to a lefty. How many times can you keep doing this. He apparently has no desire to win. I don’t mind losing with your best but at least try to manage to win a game. If your going to give up just give up already rest Utley so he can play a full season rest Howard rest Worley. Quit jerking everyone around. Manage to win a game or quit I cant take it anymore. A very winnable game. Too bad the Cards didn’t give up last year, like we are giving up this year. Against The Reds he plays match ups the Phills win it worked so well he decided to not try again.

Manuel made the correct moves, but nobody executed properly. Bastardo was pitching to a lefty because he’s a lefty himself, in case you didn’t notice. Manuel WAS playing match ups, and he WAS trying to win. It’s not his fault that Lindblom couldn’t hit the strike zone or that Bastardo couldn’t locate.

Your right George I meant when he left him in to pitch to the third batter a righty. I agree that it is the player that did not execute but how mant times now is it that Basardo could not get the out. You have to do something different there. He played match ups against the reds it worked. Here he thought it was July 2011 with Bastardo. It is not. He clearly cannot get it done.

I thought it would be worse than this, but righties have only hit .229 vs. Bastardo this year, although the .763 OPS is not very good. Lefties: .188 and .608 OPS. Overall: .211 and .697.

Bastardo and Rosenberg should be nicknamed the Legion of Doom. Hideous 8th and tenth innings. Vance needs to Admit the bone chips are messing with his delivery, OR that he needs some time to fix things. Give Cloyd a shot. Maybe bring up Ruf when the rosters expand and try him in left?! Guy hit another dinger. Damn the Mutts.

I thing Wright will be a big risk as far as an extension or a FA siginng is concerned, much more so than AGonz. He hasn’t been the same player since getting beaned a few years ago. He’s striking out 5% more often, but what is weird is how poor his fielding has gotten.
