Washington Nationals (77-47) at Philadelphia Phillies (58-67)

Edwin Jackson (7-8, 3.69) vs. Kyle Kendrick (6-9, 4.20)

Time: 7:05, Citizens Bank Park
TV: CSN
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 80
Media: Twitter and Facebook

The Nationals were expected to be an up and coming team.  They were expected to be much improved, but I don’t think anybody expected them to have the best record in baseball at this point in the season.  The Nationals stand 10.5 games ahead of the Phillies in the National League East.

Kyle Kendrick is coming off a great start against the Brewers.  Kendrick’s starts are always unpredictable, as he needs to  build consistency.

Lineup: SS Rollins, 3B Frandsen, 2B Utley, 1B Howard, RF Brown, CF Mayberry, LF Nix, C Kratz, P Kendrick.

Your gamenight beer: Dogfish Head, which makes many find beers, brings forth 90 Minute IPA, which is stronger than your 60 Minute, but it really tastes good. Between its nine percent content and superior satisfaction, it reminds you of a good Belgian brew. Perfect for a mild night like tonight. Eat some pork with it. -By Tim

GO PHILLIES!

Bad lineup. C’mon!!! Let’s crush the Nats. Start Juan Pierre

Dogfish Head Beer? They don’t name beers like they used to.

Little early to go crazy on Kendrick of late, amplified by early on here, but he’s at least looking like he wants to challenge people to go above the superlatives after 2 straight great efforts.

    Famous quotes for 400…

Who said recently, “Strikeouts are overrated. I’d rather get first pitch groundballs all night.”

Answer…Kyle Kendrick, who, going into tonight, has a 10.31 ERA in situations with RISP. With only 23 K’s. He’s just never going to be a K guy, but if he had that ability in situations like that, it’d prolly be at least a decent improvement in his numbers.

But, at 20 straight scoreless now, who’s complaining? Lotta groundballs tonight, too, with only one K,

    Unreal achievements for 200…

What Phillies pitcher just dropped his season ERA under 4 for the season with the 3rd out of the 6th inning, completing his 21st straight scoreless inning?

So when did Kendrick have a seance with Drysdale and Hershisher? Beats me, but I will gladly take it!

Irrelavant now, but the list of guys tossing 40 or more scoreless in a row includes some historic names, including Luis Tiant twice. Not to deny credit, but a good many of the 25 or so that exceeded 40 did it in much less offensive times. Kendrick over 20 was terrific.

Not saying Ruf is a top 10 prospect overall, but anyone, evenn at 26, that has a shot at the triple crown in AA is a prospect. Hit another homer tonight. That’s 34 with a good bit to play. Lifetime average over .300 in the minors and a RH bat to boot. Played 20 games in LF no errors, but sure his range is poor. Some contendors are looking for a glove at 3b. Put Placido on waivers and make room!

That’s good that Charlie didn’t protect Kendrick, let him go and test the ability to keep his string going, and he gets some honest closure to it.

Unofficially, 12 groundball outs, and the pen can put a well deserved W next to his name.

Be nice if it continues, pitching well, that is, but it’s been fun following his last 3 starts.

Yep. Time to see KK as a pure starter and see what happens. If another pitcher gets injured bring up Cloyd or another starter to let KK stay in the rotation. I like the new mix of pitches. His cutter is clearly just not there at this time.

I bitched about Vadez for Horst, but Horst has done a great job.

Ya know, you’re probably right about Kendrick. I mean, you’re not gonna have 5 aces in your rotation, but it is only 3 weeks ago that everyone was screaming for Cloyd in his spot. Let’s just say I’d like to see consitency the rest of the year before I get anything close to warm and fuzzy about seeing him in the rotation on a regular basis. But it’s a helluva month he’s had to build to a solid, consistent finish.

Sorry PN. I jinxed KK with my previous comment. I’ll shut up now. Go Horst.

My fault Ed. i should have been in earlier with a “Kyle, you suck”. he would still be blanking the bugs. If this ends up going extra innings I would not hesitate to have KK put on Shwimmers uni and run him back out for long relief.

Kratz guns down another base stealer. These older ‘rookies’ won’t take over MLB, but for the love of Pete give them a shot. They are playing their asses off.
