Philadelphia Phillies (47-58) vs Arizona Diamondbacks (54-51)
Before tonight’s game, Charlie Manuel was seen being called into a meeting during media time. Shortly thereafter, Joe Blanton–tonight’s scheduled starter–was not seen with the rest of the team. Then news came out of a trade that sent Blanton to the Dodgers.
So in his place on the mound tonight will be Kyle Kendrick, who currently owns MLB’s longest scoreless inning streak at 21. 13 of those innings are as a starter. Still, though, his ERA this year is well above 4, and a spot start like this could mean a poor outing on such short notice. However, Kendrick has done well in situations similar to this before, so it’s tough to predict how he will pitch tonight.
Opposing him will be righty Ian Kennedy, a guy who has fallen off considerably after his outstanding year last year where he finished 4th in the Cy Young Award voting. His ERA is currently 4.20 (last year it was 2.88). The last time he pitched in Philly, he gave up three runs in three innings and took the loss back in August of 2011.
Lineup: Rollins SS, Schierholtz RF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Mayberry CF, Brown LF, Frandsen 3B, Schneider C, Kendrick P
Your Gameday Beer – Orval Trappist Ale
I’ve said it before, monks know how to brew beers and this Belgian Pale Ale is no exception. First it hits you with a apple/pear scent then a complex taste of citrus, caramel, and earthy yeast – all in a creamy buttery consistency. Wow. I hear it goes well with Thai food, but this is certainly one you can drink alone. – By Brian
