Lee Claimed Off Waivers

According to a report from CBSSports.com, a team has claimed Cliff Lee off waivers. Ruben Amaro Jr. said earlier today that Lee is “not going anywhere.”
But that doesn’t mean the Phillies won’t try – or haven’t tried – to deal him. The Phillies could ask for a team to take on all of his salary and several other players in return, and when the two sides could not come to terms on an agreement, the Phillies pull him. Otherwise, Lee can just be handed to the claiming team with his entire salary. There is no word if he has technically been pulled from waivers. But the CBS report from Jon Heyman says the Phillies have three days to attempt to work something out.
If you’re in the business of believing Amaro, then Lee was never a threat to leave. He’s probably just feeling it out to see if they get an offer they could not refuse. Lee also has a no-trade clause in his contract, so even if the Phillies came to some sort of an agreement with another team, if he was on that list, Lee has the right to shut it down. This is common practice among MLB teams, don’t forget.
There has been no official word from the Phillies as of yet.

I heard the claim came from the Dodgers, and that there were several clIms but as the Dodgers have the worst NL record they won the waiver claim

Either way, word on the street is that Lee has been very unhappy with the Phillies lately. There are lots of reasons for that, not the least of which could be Lee’s dissapointment with his own performance, but more trade rumors probably isn’t helping this relationship.

“I signed here to win here,” Lee said. “Obviously, nobody is happy with the way this year has gone, but this is where I want to be.”
He’s isn’t going anywhere. He loves Philly. Real fans still stick behind this team.

He’s not talking about the fans. And how Cliff Lee feels about the fans or the players on the team. Lee’s annoyed with the management. And he should be. He’s been jerked around once by them. He’s probably fed up that he is having a bad season and his name is involved in every trade rumor possible.
An as a Phillies fan, I’m starting to feel the same way. They’re just jerking everybody around right now.

I’m not saying that Lee is untouchable, I am just saying that if you are going to trade him, then trade him. Stop telling the media that he is not going anywhere, and then have his name pop up in every trade rumor possible. Poop or get off the pot.
Imagine if you kept hearing rumors that you were going to be transferred to a different office. Your manager tells you that you are not. But then you spend the next three weeks hearing rumors you are going to be transferred. Your manager denies it again. And then you find out that you have been offered to all of the other offices. It would start to grow on you.
And as a fan, I am feeling the same way. Amaro gave these huge contracts out, traded the top prospects and is now trading away everybody for slop. I still have tickets for 11 more games this season to see the remnants of Amaro’s salary dump. Amaro needs to look at what message he is sending to the fans right now.
Besides, if they trade Lee to the Dodgers, do you really have faith that Amaro is going to get some top prospects for him?

Ruben’s consistent in 2 areas.
One, he adheres to wise GMing by not discussing ongoing negotiations. Well, directly. He just uses his mouthpiece (s).
And when it comes to trade rumors, and potential free agent signings rather than sticking to the same policy, he’s as out there as it gets.
I agree with Morris’s sentiment about how disruptive the seemingly conflicting messages and actions are with the latest rendition of the Cliff Lee saga. Try the original play of Cliff’s free agency when Ruben warned us against the possibility many times instead of a wise no comment policy.
Not that it particularly matters, but when Cliff says, “I don’t pay attention to trade rumors, I just worry about what I can control, which is pitching,” he’s no doubt being equally mischevous, for lack of a better word. Hell, the guy has like an 11 year old kiddo…you think that kid (Jaxson?) doesn’t get the third degree at school and come home and ask questions. Mama Lee must love that action.
But I feel differently than Morris’s implication with his question of do you have confidence that Amaro could acquire suitable talent for Cliff. That, I do. And I believe he will try to do that over the weekend in discussions with Ned Coletti. There seems a better chance a deal goes down than most think. But better is a relative term.

Lee is going to be pulled unless dodgers paart with Zach Lee and aa high ranked RH OF and another middling prospect. Don’t see thee Dodgers doing it.

The Dodgers don’t really match up with the Phillies for this kind of deal. Their system like the Phils is top loaded with pitching prospects not position plyers who could contribute in 1-2 years.

Of course it was the Dodgers, who else has the money to take on 95 million in commitments? How long does Ruben have to make an official decision to pull him back/trade/let him go?
And are the Dodgers on his list anyway?
