Atlanta Braves (86-65) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (77-74)

Mike Minor (9-10, 4.31) vs. Roy Halladay (10-7, 4.03)

Time: 4:05 PM, Citizens Bank Park
TV: FOX
Weather:
Clear, 85
Media: Twitter and Facebook

What a huge win for the Fightin’ Phils on Friday night.  They have to continue the momentum all weekend long.

This hasn’t been Roy Halladay’s best season, struggling with injuries and consistency for most of the season.  Regardless of his performance this year, it’s always good to have a guy like Doc pitch in a big game like this.  Even with his struggles, Phillies fans still have faith in Roy Halladay.

Ryan Howard has a reputation for being Mr. September, but he hasn’t quite lived up to that name this year.  But could he slowly be starting to heat up?  The Big Piece has 3 home runs in as many games.

Beck'sYour Gameday Beer – Beck’s
Beck’s, a classic German Brewery, provides tonight’s beer like a present wrapped neatly in tin foil. It’s certainly not the best German beer but it is popular and widely available. Like similar mass-produced pilsners it has that traditional rice and corn beer taste, though not has strong as a Bud or Miller product. It of course goes well with Wiener Schnitzel otherwise known as veal cutlets. – By Brian

I don’t know about it having to be this inning, but I don’t think it’d work to well letting Minor settle in too long. Let alone you have to be concerned about the Braves scoring more, but I’d hate to go to the 5th or 6th down like 3-10, 4-1.

Maybe they can come right back now.

    Oh wow 3-0 Braves.

Going forward the biggest issue the Phillies will have to overcme is that in 2011 Halladay was the best pitcher in baseball.

He isnt even top 25 in 2012 and I dont knwo if it will improve in the future.

Should have won a title in 2010 or 2011.

i NEVER THOUGHT I’D HAVE MORE CONFIDENCE IN KYLE KENDRICK THAN I HAVE IN ROY HALLADAY. BUT THAT DAY HAS COME.

  • Posts: 0 Andrew from Waldorf

    @ Bart these are people.
Even Halladay is a human and the total amount of career innings is going to take a toll.

    Ditto with Lee.

Roy is such an all time great thoguh that there is a chance for an adjustment this off season. Although it is less likely than likely.

    Cards take 5-4 lead

    Not looking good for fightins.

If Cards win and they lose even the idle talk is over.

I cant stand when women write sports articles I can read it and tell if a woman wrote it, they suck at it, on another note… Roy halladay has become Jamie Moyer, he should just go home and wait until next year to take his team out of the game in the first inning, sac of shit

    Cards win in 10.

Its officialy over unless fightins come back.

Ill see you guys for opening day 2013.

Rushed home from work to catch the start of the game…I’m speechless. Never thought Doc would spot the Braves a six run gain for the SECOND time this year, nor be the one to drive in the final nail on our last ditch run. Ugh!!! A six run hole is too much to ask to overcome.

I really think Dock needs some kind of surgery this off season, or maybe just needs to adjust his work out. Great pitchers do not just lose it this fast, I am thinking he is hurt or there is something wrong with him. The game is not on extra innings so I am just following it on line, did not see him pitch but this is just bad bad bad.
I will have some phath that he figures something out this off season, or hoping it is just some sort of injury. and hope for a mircle come back for today

You would look ridiculous predicting a comeback from 7-2 against a very good pen, but if the Phils can hold ‘em at 7, I actually think they have a chance. And I don’t mean just to make it interesting. That’s based on do or die time, and at least fighting to the end. We’ll see. But first order of business is hold the Braves at 7.

Nice job by RyHo to hit the 300 mark. That’s a helluva number that 4,5,and 600, let alone 7 make look small, but it’s still a tremendous achievement.

So ya have the top of the lineup next inning, with the idea to be to go through the lineup twice.

    Well, that’s the goal, anyway.

Putting RyHo’s 300 in some kinda perspective, Thome came back today, 1-6, but a key double in still another Oriole extra inning win. That club’s made a lot of experts have to order new business cards with no expert on the new one.

Things have worked out well for Jim, though he missed a lot of time, but he said he wanted to play for a winner, and never pushed to go to the O’s in recent years when he’s bounced around. Funny how that’s worked out, even to this point. Easy club to root for. RyHo has half the homers Thome does.

I believe Howard is the 2nd fastest to 300 in history (in games played). Hea was fastest to 100, 200, and 250.

      I don’t care, but Kiner in 1087 games, V RyHo 1093.

We’ll see if Howard can match Kiner’s Korner after he stops playing. That’s a more important standard to match.

I hate to agree with Beta. I think this is a first.

But since the season is over now even for the most optimistic fan (AFW)

Id sit Doc the rest of this year. For get about his last start or 2.

And id look into whats wrong.

and maybe him easing up on his body and workouts might help.

The Braves and Nats will not win a WS.
    Of this I am sure.

anything else in the playoffs IDK

WHEW!!! So they’re still holding at 7. We just need 1 or 2 runs an inning for the rest of the game. This can be done…

Andrew From Waldorf —- But these are just people. Everyone is entitled to a bad day. Please, Andrew, Doc needs to take the rest of the season off, like you suggested. And, now do believe that even you have more confidence in Kyle Kendrick that you have in Doc. Let’s hope he gets better for next year. Old pitchers never die, they just fade away.

Personally, I’d like to take in some post game info before having a view on if Doc should not pitch again, but you can’t really contest Dr. AFW’s prognosis.

      Impressive math skills, young man.

2 hits in 6 innings ain’t gonna get it done, either.

Well, we got one in the third and one in the fourth. If we continued to get one an inning without giving up any more, we would have tied it up in the 9th and won in the 10th. But now we’ve gone two more innings with no runs. The offense needs to get serious, and the defense needs to stop loading up the bases.

Okay, here’s the deal, and I know the Phils’ll prolly lose, 7 (more?)-2 and all that, but you talk about “Why I Love the Phillies” writing material.

Circa 1963 or so, Saturday afternoon Phillies baseball, down to the Cards, 10-2, headed to the bottom of the 9th, Phils got singles with ‘em loaded at a better clip that the other night in the Apple, and cut it to 10-9, and of course, lost.

Excellent drama, cheap thrill that it was.

    So ya hope.

Geez, if they could somehow win this game. What a fantasy. Cincy’s winning, Crew lost. Cards prolly lost Yaddie for a few days, and it’d still be 3.

    I love revisionist history.

OK, not a problem. All they have to do is get 7 runs in the 9th inning. They did that against the Mets the other day.

So for the Phils in the 9th, they get 7 runs, they do it on 5 base hits, there were 3 Atlanta errors, and 2 base on balls, part of a 7 run inning that saw Ryan Howard start it with a walk, and end it with a 2 run triple.. The Phils win the ball game, 9-8, they lead the series, 2 games to none, and remain 3 games behind St. Louis, which beat the Cubs, 5-4 in 11 innings.

If this is the only comment you are reading in this thread, my suggestion is quit while you bees ahead.

Doc is clearly hurt. He should not pitch again for the rest of this season. Sorry to say, today was the nail in the coffin. I appreciate the Phillies’ effort in making a run at it though! Just not our year.
