We’ve got a day game, folks! It’s Joey Votto’s first game back since knee surgery in mid-July and he’ll be greeted by Roy Halladay.

Your gameday beer: For the Phillies, it’s a long road to redemption, and redemption is a beverage served ice-cold, correct? So have some Redemption this warm end-of-summer afternoon. It’s a smooth citrus-style beer that goes well with beef lo mein for lunch.

Go Phillies!

Erik Kratz playing the hero’s role again. Making the most of the time he’s given.

On Reds radio, the Hall of Famer marty Brenneman referred to Kravitz as a kid.

He also referred to his broadcast partner as son.

I guess life’s not so bad when you get old (er).

I need to run errands but am afraid to leave or they will blow a 6-1 lead with Doc on the mound.

He has the Andy of Mayberry magic.

Not to be a buzzkill but I had a feeling that when there was no pressure and they really dont have much they would play well.

I must say that if they did somehow miracle themselves to even the second wild card they are more of a threat playoff wise this year than they were last year winning 102 games.

They already wilted this year. So there would be no pressure even in the playoffs.
and there was a ton of pressure last year. And we know the line up doesnt do well under pressure.

I actualy still am holding out a little hope.

Including today there are 27 games left.

The Phils will need to go 23-4 the rest of the way.

So for those of you doing the math you have 4 losses to play with.

When games you are leading by 5 in the 9th or leading 6-1 with Doc pitching are one of your losses remaining. It makes it alot tougher.

WHY is mini Mary starting over Pete Orr?? Who cares how “versatile” he is, he should not be on our team!!!! Wow!!

Galvis is a different story, he could not hit (did okay but how much of it was the stuff he was taking)- but his defense was unreal!!! What does mini Mary provide??? decent D and a horrid bat. (no disrespect to Michael Martinez, but when I wrote the MART in mini mart, my iPhone automatically changed Mart to Mary and I didn’t want to change).

I love how we are playing- but If the above post is indeed correct and we have to go 23-4, that’s just probably not going to happen.

But like I said, this has been fun. And it is SOOOO worth it if Cloyd pans out. He may have not received a chance otherwise. Same w KK. I’ll take our future over this season. (sort of)

With a 65-71 record, they have 26 games left including today’s, and a 22-4 record will get them to 87 wins.

As unlikely as that is, in order to get the 2nd wildcard, they would also need the following to happen:
      - Cards do no better than 12-14 AND
      - Dodgers do no better than 13-12
(also the Pirates do no better than 15-12)

And of course Milwaukee and Arizona are not mentioned because we’re in a statistical vacuum, and choose our data like it’s the gospel. Never mind the liklihood that there are interdivisional games (I’m not looking at the scedules because this is such a wasted discussion) mixed in and that would mean that you not only have to win a certain amount, but it could change depending on which inter division games you win.

Suffice to say the Phils need to win a lot. And probably don’t control their own destiny even if they win more than a lot.

        LOL, you’re absolutely right Ken.

For the sake of completeness, the above would have to happen, AND:
        - the D-backs must do no better than 19-6 AND
        - the Brewers must do no better than 20-7

        Agree with your last sentence.

    Schenkman you buzzkill.

OK they can afford to lose 3 more games all year.

    Is put it at 2%

    1 in 50

I still like the chances of a team with Doc and Lee and Hamels going on a 20 game win streak than most any other team.

    worleys shut down also helps.

But it is a pipe dream.

And you already counted this game as a win?

    Oh thats bad form.

I am not blame if this is blown in the 9th.

No, I know better than to count this as a win.

Ok, Mary Mart is down to .117…I mean seriously? How long do the Phillies continue to let this guy keep putting on a jersey and embarrassing himself and the organization? Does he remain until his average falls below .100 or has he threatened to release those pictures of Ruben at last years winter meetings? I thought the guy would get a hit once in a while just by accident, but i guess not.
