2012 Gameday, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (73-72) at Houston Astros (46-99)
Kyle Kendrick (9-10, 3.83) vs. Dallas Keuchel (1-7, 5.35)
Time: 7:05 p.m at Minute Maid Park
Weather: Chance of Storms (Retractable Roof), 82
TV:Comcast Sportsnet
Media: Twitter and Facebook
The Phillies are three games behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card. The Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers won last night, meaning the Phillies gained a little ground. The Phillies will try to give the Astros their 100th loss of the season tonight.
What else can we say about Kyle Kendrick? He had a rough start to the year, but has been fantastic lately. He hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. In his last six starts, he is 5-1 with a 1.49 ERA.
While Kendrick is riding a hot streak, his counterpart is in the midst of a slump. Dallas Keuchel won his Major League debut in June, but is 0-7 with a 6.35 ERA since. He has a 1.54 WHIP and allows 9.7 hits per nine innings. The Phillies were able to drive runners home last night with their offensive outburst, and they need to do the same tonight as the opposing pitcher gives up a lot of baserunners.
Your Gameday Beer – Two Jokers Double-Wit
Two Jokers, from Missouri, is an excellent witbier brewed in the classic European style. The flavor embodies those tip-of-the-tongue spices like cloves, pepper, and coriander but is tempered by citrus accents. It’s a little creamier than a traditional wit, but its light body makes for easy drinking. I recommend it with a big salad topped with spicy salmon. – By Brian

We’ve been in must-win territory since the All-Star Break.

I think a valid question is this: What are we seeing in Jimmy right now? Regardless of how he gets on base, does he have a burst of speed tonight, of guts? Did he take a mexican jumping bean? You know what I mean – if he can do this now, why cant he do this more often? What does that say? Tonight he’s giving his all?

Maybe it just says that Houston isn’t a good enough team to stop him.

Wtf is wigginton playing. Give Ruf a chance against a lefty. I hate Charlie’s decisions.

Basically Jimmy Rollins gave the Phils a run, if ANYONE could have just hit a fly ball? Deep grounder? Hey, how about a single? Stranded…

Pretty huge inning coming up with maxwell batting again.
I don’t know how much they can really afford to fall further behind, or go early to the pen.
I’d guess KK settles down here, but that’s a risky prop.

This is still very salvageable, but I’m not liking they way they look tonight.

Let’s see if they can get Frandsen to the plate this inning as a minimum.

Keuchel is awful. 3 hits, 3 walks and still no runs in 3 plus innings. Says alot for our offense eh?

It says both good things and bad things about the offense.

Good things would be runs – I mean, that is all that counts toward the final outcome.

Of course. At least they’re getting baserunners.

I was hoping the 3 rbi Howard had last night would ring a familiar bell but so much for a streak.

Not sure why they didn’t start Ruf today. Howard generally has had problems with lefthanders and certainly doesn’t help them in the field.

Charlie said he thought about it, but Howard either said, or showed body languagethat he wanted to play. I forget which, but Charlie did say he thought about it.

This should be Keuchel’s last inning, if he makes it through.
I frankly have no idea if that’s good or bad.

And of course adding misery to the pain is that Milwaukee erased a 4-1 Met lead, and now leads 6-4.
At least there’s still time to reverse both situations, but that’s a brutal parlay to now.

I do believe you’ll see him tomorrow. It would be a cheapshot to mention Wally Pipp in the same breath. Ooops.
What a disappointing game!

Very quick 1 – 2 – 3
0 for 9 with RISP, 11 men LOB. KK 4 runs, 5 innings – looks like KK in May.

They’re playing down to the opposition, a problem they have always had, but this is not a good time to have that problem.

Yep. As long as there is a JH, there will be no Ryno. I will say, I thought this wlduon’t be the best situation for him when he was in contention last year. After spending some time with a real organization and getting the feel for how to run things the right way I would love to have him back.
