2012 Game Recaps, Posts

The Phillies will have to wait about 15 more hours if they want their 10th straight winning season.

The Phils fell to the Nationals 4-2 in Game 161 of the 2012 season. Darin Ruf accounted for both runs with a pair of solo homers. He’s been a bright spot over the last week, hitting in eight straight games and slugging .774 with two doubles, a triple and two homers in his 11-game major-league career. Of the 7 runs the Phillies have scored in the past three games against the Nationals, Ruf has driven in all 7.

B.J. Rosenberg started for the Phillies and allowed just one run over four solid innings. Josh Lindblom was roughed up in the sixth, he allowed two runs on a solo homer, two other hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. The rest of the bullpen filled in the gaps with Antonio Bastardo giving up a Nats insurance run in the eighth.

Kevin Frandsen hit two doubles to raise his batting average to .337 from the lead-off spot tonight. For all of the warranted talk of Frandsen not being an everyday third baseman, he never slowed down over the final two months with the Phillies.

The season ends tomorrow afternoon as Cliff Lee (6-8, 3.12) takes on Edwin Jackson (9-11, 4.13) at 1:05 p.m.

Research will no doubt reveal that David Herndon and Josh Lindblom are in fact twin sons of different mothers.

it gets worse. The mother of Herndon previously gave birth to Eric Bruntlett, and Lindblom popped out of the same womb as Mini Mart.

Freaking Yanks tied the game up with the Red Sox in the bottom of the 9th now 3-3.
Orioles won their game 1-0 on a Chris Davis HR.

Yeah, but that was on a homer by Rauuuuuuuul, so ya can only get so pissed.

Meanwhile, the Cards are losing, and the Dodgers face Zito, with Kshaw lined up for tomorrow, and Homer Bailey lines up to face the Cards, so that still might get interesting.

Cabrera has 2 hits and 2 ribs tonight.

I missed the Ibanez homer because I was watching Mayberry round out the 0 for 5.

      This is a great game.

You know the Red Sox just IBB’d a 10m player in Swisher to get to 29m ARoid, and then walked him to pitch to 22m Texiera-

Isn’t that like half the Orioles payroll?

That used to be the Orioles payroll.. remember Angelos?
@Ken, I just saw that Rauuuul hit the homerun, I think his first one in over a month.

      same old Rauuuuul

That’s the first time since early June Soriano pitched 2 innings, and he threw 44 pitches. So maybe he’s shelved for tomorrow. That’s the potential good news for O’s fans. The bad news is Dice K goes for the Red Sox tomorrow. Bruce Hurst would be a better choice. Hell, Roger Clemens would be, and he’d try to throw the game the Yanks way.

Ya know what might hurt Cabrera in the CY voting? Put it this way, it won’t help. If he’s in a position like Reyes was last year, and cuts out early to protect his batting title candidacy. But Trout needs like a 5-5 tonight to even make that possible.

Not a damned thing will hurt Cabrera in the CY voting.

Trout single and a steal, which I believe is his 49th steal.

Cabrera has thought about stealing 48 times.

I’m hoping Girardi is not hip to baseball rules and sends for Chad Qualls to pitch the 12th.

Gotta love Swisher’s swing on that 55mph ephus pitch. Looked like slow pitch softball.

It appears to me the rats have abandoned ship. Even though the Phils lost, at least I’ll save my comments for their game and not the American freakin’ League.

I’m disappointed that the offense once again consisted of one guy, but I’m pleased that it was a guy who seems to be a possible right handed option for next year’s outfield. Also, I couldn’t really expect much from a lineup with Mini instead of Rollins and Wiggy instead of Howard.

Rosenburg did well, Horst did well, Diekman did well. All good signs for 2013. Most bullpen games are blowouts, but this one wasn’t.

The thread did get off topic George. It happens on this blog and most blogs. Actually less on this blog. You do have some devoted fans here take Brooks instance.

George – at least no one is talking about politics and tonight’s debate. Now that would CLEARLY be off-topic. Actually, I don’t mind a little diversion once in awhile on here. Talking about the American League playoff picture isn’t that big of a deal….especially when it has to do with one of our ex-Phils (Rauuuuuuuuuulllll!!)

Anyone who thinks that Trout has a shot at the MVP over Cabrera has rocks in his head. Its impossible. Trout is great. T-R-I-P-L-E C-R-O-W-N. Forget it. Ruff is the real deal. Can’t field but what the hell. So I guess we’ll have Ruf in left and Brown in right and …is Willie Mays available for center?

not to worry dipsy! i think a little arizona inst. league and 30 some games in spring training ruf will end up as a decent left fielder. personally i also think at the plate he’s the real deal! my god the kid has 11 hits 6 for extras and now 3 HR’s not bad for a guy that sat for about a week and a half before he even got an AB. we could be looking at the next ROY candidate. now all we need is a CF, 3rd baseman, an established 8th inning guy, and possibly another starter. we don’t need mini mart, mayberry can go,he’s no better than a 4th or 5th OFer. lindblum can stay at AAA next year as far as i’m concerned! i don’t like him.

One more game and then we will find out that Mini-Mart is Charlie’s illegitimate son and that is the reason he has been playing him in the major leagues with a .180 batting average.

Martinez is playing right now because the Phils are short on infielders. Howard’s out, Rollins and Polanco are out, and Wigginton couldn’t play 3rd if he had a glove the size of Texas. Mini can’t hit the ball, but at least he can catch the ball and throw the ball, and he doesn’t lollygag. One other thing: he’s actually been getting some hits lately. A few games back, his average was way worse.

Whoever he’s the illegitimate son of, the little b—— is sort of needed right now.

Yes he can catch and throw, but I think he does lolly-gag. Did you see how long the infield was in when the bases were loaded, and finally Chase had to yell at him to come in. He was standing back near the grass like a kindergartner looking at the daisies. And frankly I thought he was just a little too lackadaisical on that throw home after he finally moved in. Your right they don’t have many other choices right now, but If they did, it would be better than him.

My nine-month -old airedale terrier, Coco, is becoming a Phillies fan. She especially likes Darin Ruf. She barks RUF, RUF RUF all the time.

To anyone who took offense to my comment about the rats abandoning ship, it was made mostly in jest. The Phils really have been a sinking ship all year, and it did seem, when I commented, that people were finally jumping ship.

With the Phils’ dismal season, I can certainly understand people being distracted by other things. However, this is a site basically about the Phillies, and when I posted, there hadn’t been one real comment about the game. If there had been any, I’d have commented differently.

Maybe my remark had its effects, because more people came forth about the actual game. But perhaps I went too far in some folks’ minds, and I’m sorry if my little “rats” joke offended anyone. People on here aren’t rats, except for a few trolls that all blogs have to deal with.

I didn’t take offense to it. I thought it was nice that somebody else told Brooks and Lefty to shut up. But more importantly, I thought it was a great read because it sounded like on Opening Day next year, we’ll only have to read half posts from you since the Phils open with KC, a cornerstone in the American Freaking League.. What a scam, opening up against the freaking American league. No justice in this life.

Ya know- we’re one of a very few teams that do not have any inter-league games in August and September. If they’re gonna move a team causing this crap all year. I like it better it that way.

        I’ll shut up now!

This no interleague for the Phils in that stretch isn’t something I was aware of. I guess this is gonna be like any rule change, the tendency, leastwise for me is a little slow to accept it, but I get used to it. But when the NL takes on the DH, I’m screaming bloody murder, and not stopping. Thank you for shutting up. I notice massive improvement in the forum already.
