News, Prospecting
The Phillies have taken 22-year old Ender Inciarte 15th overall from the Arizona Diamondbacks’ system. Inciarte is a speedy outfielder who reached High-A Visalia last season at age 21, hitting .319/.377/.419 with 1 HR and 28 steals in 36 attempts. The lefty is 5’11 from Venezuela and could be an immediate contributor defensively and on the basepaths for the Phillies. Baseball America editor John Manuel notes that Inciarte has drawn comparisons to Endy Chavez.
Of note, the Phillies did not lose any players in the MLB portion of the Rule 5 Draft.

An interesting write-up on this guy. I’m just not sure that they can sacrifice a roster spot on a guy who hasn’t played above the high-A level.

They used a roster spot on Michael Martinez for two years.

He had 28 steals in 8 attempts? Damn he must have stole 2nd 3rd and home in one attempt every time he tried running. And he must have stole 1st 4 times. That’s ridiculous.

@Jon, haha.
I read that a few times too, to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me.
Good, we’ll take him in Reading.

Can’t play in Reading. Rule 5 players must stay on the ML roster the entire season or be offered back to their original club.

The Rule 5 thing says that the Astros picked up Josh Fields from the Red Sox, and Baseball Reference says it is the same Josh Fields we signed to a minor league deal. When and how did we lose him?

That’s a B-R issue – they have the exact same name and the liner tool most sites use randomly picks one or the other. It is the pitcher. That’s a nice pick.

Damn. 28 steals in only 8 attempts. He’s gotta be the fastest kid alive with numbers like that. Sign him up.
