AJ after his last start said….
Burnett was working with fastball/changeup today, no curveball. Said he might not mix it in until his third start, depends on how it feels.
Ry Ho previous springs..
During 2006, what would become his MVP season when he hit 58 home runs, Howard hit 11 home runs in 85 at-bats during Grapefruit League play, giving him a home run every 7.7 at-bats.
And he already has 10 RBIs in nine games. In 2011, he had 14 RBIs in 26 games. And his at-bats per strikeout have gone down, too. So far this spring, he’s fanned six times in 24 at-bats (4.0 average). Two years ago, he struck out 16 times in 72 at-bats (4.5 average).
Tony Dungy spoke to the Pirates before the game. I guess that’s nice.

Ruf leads off next inning. How this matches the mind read, I don’t know, but my feeling is he’ll make some noise this week, turn some heads. Whether that’s something like a 3 hit game, or a period where the ball looks like a grapefruit, I don’t know, but he’ll head into the following week on an upswing.
As he doesn’t look overmatched, it’s a matter of timing.
That’s how it looks to me. Time will tell.

Nice at bat for Quintero, about 12 pitches, and on a 3-2, walks with ‘em loaded to score the first run of the day.
Bases were loaded because Ryno held Ruf at 3rd and LA questioned the lack of aggressiveness.

Mike Young’s base hit with em loaded prompted a check, over his career, batting close to .340 in close to 140 at bats with ‘em loaded.
Not bad.
Now we got Chase with ;em full.

The Bucs had a game a few days agio where they walked 8 guys in the first 4. Now its 3 bases loaded walks in 1 inning, and Piece comes up.
I don’t know how Tony Dungy helps solve this control issue.

Odds to finish season as MLB’s saves leader:
JONATHAN PAPELBON +600
CRAIG KIMBREL +600
JIM JOHNSON +700
JOHN AXFORD +700
FERNANDO RODNEY +800
SERGIO ROMO +800
TOM WILHELMSEN +800
JASON MOTTE +1000
RAFAEL SORIANO +1000
JOEL HANRAHAN +1200
JOE NATHAN +1500
JONATHAN BROXTON +2000
MARIANO RIVERA +2000
If Papelbon leads the majors in saves, it’s hard to imagine the ballclub not having a really good regular season.

No small task tomorrow (depending who plays) when Cole faces the Dominican clab.
Lotta familiar names…
The Dominican team is led by Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees. Cano is coming off a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger season and will look to lead the Dominicans to victory. Joining Cano in the infield are fellow major leaguers, Hanley Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jose Reyes and Edwin Encarnacion of the Toronto Blue Jays, as well as Erick Aybar of the Los Angeles Angels, among others.
The outfield is comprised of Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, Alejandro De Aza of the Chicago White Sox and Eury Perez of the Washington Nationals, among others. Catching for the team is Cleveland Indians backstop, Carlos Santana.

Ken,
Been meaning to say things for all your game updates, since I no longer have Comcast and do not have the MLB package. Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Ed

I actually was not that bothered when I thought it was going to be time in the joint, but when the option was presented of community service in the form of watching exhibition baseball, the attorney thought this was a better option, so I followed their advice.
I think it’s like 3 or 4 years now that I’ve discovered it helps concentration to put thoughts to the keyboard to embellish the game watching experience. Still feels comfortable, so forward ho.
