Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves

Cliff Lee vs. Kris Medlen

Time: 7:10 PM, Turner Field
TV: TCN, MLBN
Weather: Chance of rain, 47
Media: Twitter and Facebook

A sweep would not be a good way to start off the 2013 season.  A win tonight for the Phillies would certainly relieve some early-season stress.

Somewhat surprisingly, the starting problem has been the issue thus far. Unlike Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee needs to keep the Braves in the yard, as they have hit 6 home runs in two games.

Kris Medlen has bounced between the bullpen and rotation last season, but he has been extremely successful as a starter.  However, Medlen did struggle this spring, posting a 7.23 ERA in 23.2 innings.

QUESTIONS: Will Cliff Lee get run support in 2013?  Lee’s record of 6-9 in 2012 does not show how well he pitched.  Lee had his ups and downs, but overall he had a great season posting a 3.16 earned run average.  The main problem was that the Phillies couldn’t score for him!  Hopefully with the additions of Ben Revere and Michael Young and a healthy Chase Utley and Ryan Howard will give Cliff the run support he deserves.

LINEUP: Revere CF, Rollins SS, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, M. Young 3B, Brown LF, Nix RF, Kratz C, Lee P

I’ve been watching the game while finishing up some work tonight. Go Phils!!! First time they’ve had a lead this season, and they’re holding on to it! After Cliff Lee took so long to get a win last year, could he be the first Phil with a win this year?

    … or am I jinxing it? :D

No jinx but I won’t be at ease until the bottom of the ninth is over and the phillies havr one. Only up 2-0 and missed some golden opportunities to score. 2 runs isn’t a sage lead against this team. Two really deep, homerun on any other night type hits, one by nix and one by howard, could have had it to 6-0.

I hope the back end of the pen is solid and can preserve this meager lead to lock down the W.

You can see it on Lee’s face: he can taste his first win coming, in his first game, and the first win for the Phils… please don’t blow it…

@Glut: Yeah, they blew too many games in the bottom of the 9th last year for me to be entirely comfortable. :^)

Good win and combined 2 hit shutout. Excellent start to the year for Cliff. He didn’t get his first win until, what, June last year? Haha. Has to feel good.

Cliff Lee is awesome … totally awesome. And he’s so much fun to watch pitch, hit, and field. Cliff – you’re an ace!
