2013 Game Recaps, Analysis, News

The Phillies had an eighth inning rally, but it was not enough to erase a late deficit as they fell 4-3 to the Brewers in the third game of their series in Milwaukee.

The loss puts the team back under .500, and they have now guaranteed themselves a loss in the season series to the Brewers, who are in last place in the N.L. Central.

A couple of failed chances cost the Phils some runs

The sixth inning could have been a huge inning for the Phillies. Kevin Frandsen doubled, and Jimmy Rollins followed with a single, putting runners on second and third with no outs. But Delmon Young struck out, Frandsen was thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice and John Mayberry grounded out to end the inning without a run scoring.

They also had leadoff singles from Michael Young in two innings, but both times failed take advantage. They were 2-for 8 with runners in scoring position in the game.

Brown homers yet again

Brown accounted for all three Phillies' runs. he went 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI.

Brown accounted for all three Phillies’ runs. He went 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI.

It’s almost like you expect it now. Domonic Brown lifted his league leading 19th homer in the game, a solo shot to right field in the second inning of Tom Gorzelanny. Brown has been seeing lefties exceptionally well this year. His OPS against southpaws this season was 1.011 coming into the game, and is even higher now.

He also doubled home two runs in the eighth now has 47 RBI to go along with his 19 homers, which is good for third in the National League. He has 11 home runs in his last 15 games and is batting .433 with 4 homers and 11 RBI in his first eight games in June.

Kendrick pitched well despite rough sixth

The right-hander did suffer the loss but he churned out another quality start and was able to work out of a big jam to keep the game close in the sixth after allowing a couple of runs to star the inning.

Kendrick allowed three runs on eight hits, while walking just one and punching out six Milwaukee batters. Until the sixth inning he had allowed just one run on a solo homer to Jean Segura.

Kendrick now has 10 quality starts in 13 games, and is sitting on a very respectable 3.22 ERA.

Up next…

To split the series the Phils must work through the right-hander Kyle Lohse, who has a 3.12 ERA in 12 career starts against Philadelphia. The Phillies will send Jonathan Pettibone to the hill, who is coming off a start in which he allowed just one earned run in six innings against the Marlins.

Don’t get me started on Delmon Young. I’m tired and want to go to bed soon and I don’t need to get all wound up again going off about that waste of roster space.

The only true bonafide proven starter left in the line up is Jimmy and a running on Empty M.Young.

What does “true bonafide proven” starter even mean? If Dom Brown’s not one, would you take Dom in the lineup over any “true bonafide proven” starters?

On the plus side, that is the longest ball Ben’ 2hopper to the infield’ Revere has hit all year.

Nope, Hit one off right center wall in a Sunday game at CBP..I was there, but that should not be his focus.

lol- hitting the ball to the outfield is clearly not his focus.

We have been, we are, and will be a .500 or sub .500 team all season. Unless they make some changes. We need more consistant offense. Don’t be fooled by a week of scoring 6 + runs and a five game winning streak. Even bad teams have some good weeks. (check Astros).
First change is get D. young outta here. The rest I don’t even want to speculate cause the needs are too many.

Kratz’s injury is just so damn unlucky. Ugh. Can’t catch a break.

We need Utley and Chooch back in the lineup asap before we fall off a cliff.

One more thing: Dom’s BABIP is relatively low (at least around his career avg). Makes me happy and hopeful about his future. MORE DOM BOMBS :D

The good news is that Chooch is due back on the 17th. That’s only a week, but I agree it could be a difficult week.
