Last night the Phillies jumped over the .500 mark for the first time since June 6, and today they will try to set their high water mark for the season at two games over in a Saturday matinee against the Mets. With the win last night, the Phillies passed the Washington Nationals for second place in the division, and are six and a half back of the Braves in the N.L. East.

Cole Hamels has pitched well of late for the Phillies, and he will get the baseball again today. In his last three starts he is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 23 innings. His last time out against the Mets he suffered the loss after allowing four runs in seven innings of work, but back in April he did hold them to a run over six innings for his only win in the first two months of the season.

The Phillies will be seeing a new arm in Zack Wheeler, one of the Mets top pitching prospects. Wheeler has had his good outings and his bad outings since being called up in mid-June, but lately he has been pitching superbly. In his last two outings he combined to go 12 innings and allowed just two runs while striking out eight. He has never faced the Phillies or any of their hitters.

Lineup: Rollins SS, M. Young 3B, Utley 2B, Brown LF, Ruf 1B, D. Young RF, Mayberry CF, Ruiz C, Hamels P

Gameday Beer: Otter Creek Copper Aledownload

This medium bodied beer is a very versatile and refreshing brew that goes well with all types of ballpark food, especially stuff off the grill. It’s got a sweet, toasty, crisp taste that is perfect for either a chilly night or hot summer day watching the game. With a day game today fire up the grill and kick back with one of these and you’ll be set.

crap. Bases loaded twice, and they only get one run. But at least they got one.

Not very patient today with a young pitcher who was all over the place. The 3-0 green lights were ill advised, and that goes back to Charlie.

They were more patient than usual. They got him over 100 pitches in less than 5 innings of work. They might have been better advised to just stand there and wait for a walk, but the home plate ump has been using a very large strike zone.

You don’t pay a pitcher 20+ a year to have an era over 4. We need to sell fast

TeeJ’s a regular Phils basher, Cole has battled since the 1st, but not his best stuff today.

How come you didn’t post after Hamels previous 3 games, and who cares about Parcells.

lol, what is an “inevitable bloop”? Does this refer to bad luck? If not, why not?

Agree on momentum and next day’s starter. Just like crying, there is no momentum in baseball.

The “always” part obviously isn’t true. Walks are just as often followed by hard hit balls at hitters, as they are by jam shots that fall in.
