Philadelphia Phillies (50-56) vs San Francisco Giants (46-59)giants Kyle Kendrick  (9-7, 3.96 ERA) vs Chad Gaudin (4-2, 2.77 ERA) TIME: 7:05 Citizens Bank Park TV: Comcast SportsNet Weather: 86, sunny Media: Twitter and Facebook The Phillies ended their eight game losing streak on Tuesday with a 7-3 win over the Giants, and tonight they will have a crack at winning their first series since before the All-Star break. They will do so with Kyle Kendrick on the hill. Kendrick has been one of the Phillies most consistent starters this season, and despite earning a loss, he pitched well his last time out against St. Louis. The righty tossed six innings and allowed just three runs on five hits, marking his 15th quality start this year. Kendrick did face the Giants back on May 7, and earned a win after holding them to two runs over seven innings. The Phillies will be facing Chad Gaudin, who they have faced several times but have never seen as a starter. In nine relief appearances against the Phillies he has held them to three runs over 13 1/3 innings (2.03 ERA), and all three runs came in the same outing. He worked two scoreless frames against the Phillies earlier this year. Michael Young is the only Phillies player with any success against Gaudin, and he has done it over a large sample size. Young has seen Gaudin 22 times, and is hitting .455 with three doubles, three home runs and seven RBI against him. No other Phillie with more than three at bats against him has ever gotten more than one hit. Lineup: Rollins SS, M. Young 1B, Utley 2B, D. Young RF, Ruf LF, Asche 3B, Mayberry CF, Ruiz C, Kendrick P ShockTop-Belgian-White-155x300Gameday Beer: Shocktop Belgian White With summer in full swing, it’s a great time to crack open a true summer brew with a Shocktop Belgian White. This wheat ale is brewed with lemon, lime and orange peels to give it a refreshing taste and subtly sour finish. It’s the perfect beer for relaxing and watching the ballgame whether you are at the bar, relaxing at home or hanging out down the shore.

    w errors

    losing 7-1 in the 5th

    starter lasts 2.2 innings

This is vintage Ruben Amaro baseball.

Need to lock these guys down long term.

    All of them.

I thought that since they stood pat. The team might catch a little life. Like hey we are still all here. Lets do this. Make the best of it.

    Instead its vintage Phillies.

Including not hitting a skell pitcher.

    So Andrew,

Per your question about the pic the other day, which I might add has been replaced by a requested shot of Fosse (and Pete), here’s the deal.

First of all, here’s the pic in case you need a memory refresher.

And you asked who it was.

To which I replied in this particular thread, closer to the bottom than the top..

I’ll see you at the parade. The one I’m supposed to bo buy you a beer at, on top of paying half the Met bet. You’re an expensive partner in discussion.

      1. that’s just a general bing search.

      2. I am calling him on base percentage now instead of basepaths.

      Or maybe no trade

Why contend when you can set team records?

The guys name is pill. He comes in with 3 RBI hes got 4 tonight and he just hit one to the moon. Then Crawford hit one to the moon. He hadn’t hamered since april 27th.

I am just laughing anymore like I do when I watch the Eagles.

    This is a disgrace.
    A bitter pill for sure

You are all welcome to cheer on my Phillies Mets better record with me.

That one I am hoping is close.

I mean the mets are terrible right?

    But then theres the Phillies.

I think I am 75-25 to lose that bet at this point.

The head to head games will be very important.

    OK enough Diekman.

Looking forward to next year’s MLB draft. We should be drafting between 11-14 if the standings hold somewhat. Really not much to acquire via free agency, this year or next year. But there is the draft.

Lets not kid ourselves here gillick made the trade that gave us a World Series in the lidge trade besides that Ed wade was the guy that put the team together. Gillick got out at the right time so now he looks like a god. Put his trade for Freddy Garcia against any of the moves amaro has made.

2009: Cliff Lee for basically nobody
      2010: Roy Oswalt
2011: Trade your 2 best prospects for a free swinging, marginal outfielder, Hunter Pence.

There’s plenty more from the Amaro regime, too many to count.

Pence is a fine player and a good addition. There was just no real reason to acquire him at that time.

And put Gillick’s Eaton signing, or the Geoff Jenkins signing against any of Amaro’s FA signings. That was something close to thirty million dollars for two who were released before their contracts were even up, who added almost nothing to the team when they actually played.

On a positive note, Asche made a nice defensive dive and throw last night and Ruf has reached base sagely in 28 consecutive games since last September. Ok, now my positive Phillies thought tank for the day is empty.

I really don’t understand if the best team didn’t win who was the best team and why didn’t they win?Pro sports is about one thing, winning if you win you are the best team at that moment in time. Amaro got the world champions and since then they haven’t been. It’s really that simple.Don’t care about war,era or any of that crap, you win and who cares about any stat but you won your last game when it counted.

Not sure what this is in response to, but lesser teams win short series all the time. The Royals took 3 out of 4 from Baltimore last week — does that make KC the better team? If Houston beats Baltimore tonight, they will have won the series — does that make Houston the better team? To me the better team is determined over the full season, and in 2008 the Phillies were not the best team that year. They got hot at a good time, won the WS, and will always be the 2008 world champions of baseball. The 2006 Cardinals weren’t that good for most of the year, but snuck in and then got hot.

Amaro was handed a very good team that was well into their prime and arguably already heading into their decline phase, and improved the team by acquiring very good pitchers to supplement the core offensive players. The fact that they couldn’t win enough short series to grab another championship is frustrating and regrettable, but certainly not something I can pin on Amaro.

Again, that’s not to say that he hasn’t made mistakes, or that there aren’t better GMs.

RAJ financially handicapped himself, an issue he won’t have next year. Even if you count the Cuban pitcher they’ll have over $40 million to use. let’s see what he does.

In 10 years Gillick will be seen as a genius who handed DAJ the best hand possible.

    DAJ messed it up.

He will not be remembered fondly.

Unless somehow this team or next years wins the world series.

Magic 8 ball says: highly unlikely

“the best hand possible”? That’s a stretch, actually. They won in 2008 despite not being the best team, when they were all already well into their primes. The starting lineup, C to RF: 29, 28, 29, 29, 33, 31, 27, 29

Gillick didn’t exactly hand Amaro a team of young studs that he could ride into their prime. Amaro didn’t help the age issue with the Ibanez acquisition, but by Amaro’s first opening day in 2009 they were already mostly 30 year olds.

And any discussion of them holding on to the core has to include the owners as well. Also, Amaro’s contract runs through 2015, so more than likely we have this year, next year, and the one after that to chat about our favorite GM.

Nah.Roots – Exactly. I wonder how many of these people even have any idea what it was like to go through all those desperate dry periods where the team flat out sucked. I’m all for expectations but only with the caveat that those expectations just can’t be met a lot of the time. You think this fanbase is having a hard time right now?? I just wonder how bad it is up in NYC where the Yankees are floundering and probably won’t make the playoffs for the first time in umpteen billion years. Talk about expectations.

Yankees fans are furious. And don’t forget Washington, where they were anointed a world championship on paper before the season even started. The (few) baseball fans down there are very unhappy.

One day fans will come to understand just how rare, and precious, a chance to win it all is.

And look at the Giants, too. 2 titles in 3 years, last year being one of them…and this year they are struggling mightily. I’m sure San Fran’s expectations for this year were huge.

I’ve been singing that same song about Ruiz for awhile now. Just WHO would catch? Seriously…has ANYONE really thought of that?

I can still catch. As long as someone can help me up from the crouch after each pitch.
