Rumors

http://images.tvrage.com/people/131/391592.jpgFresh news from Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Charlie Manuel is in the middle of making a decision of whether or not he wants to return to the Phillies in an advisory capacity. Gelb spoke to general manager Ruben Amaro, who cited Dallas Green and Pat Gillick‘s returns to the Phillies after their time with the Phils as manager and general manager, respectively, had expired.

Gelb quotes Amaro with the following:

“Charlie is in the process of deciding what he wants to do,” Amaro said. “He would be a valuable member of our organization. I think he could help in a variety of ways. Hopefully we can work it out. We have made him an offer. Hopefully it would be something he’d be interested in doing.

“Charlie is in a position right now where he doesn’t have to do anything. But I think he’s always been pretty fond of the Phillies and the feeling is mutual. Hopefully we can bring him back. If not, that will certainly be his choice.”

Analysis: Great work by Gelb to address an issue that had been hanging since Manuel was let go. The team has a desire to bring its winningingest manager back but you have to wonder if Manuel may pursue one of the vacant MLB managerial availabilities, including but not limited to the Nationals, Cubs, Mariners, and possibly the Yankees.

Hopefully not. We don’t need old-school mentality to turn things around.

I thought Bowa was brought back to provide the “old-school mentality”?

What the team actually needs is talent on the 25 man roster. This isn’t rocket science.

What is it with the ego of the Phillies past players? They dumped Sandburg and Bowa in what was considered a trashing of the Team. Do you remember they fired Bowa? Yes I was watching the Phillies then. Charley was terminated, on National tv he was brought out for an interview by that clueless Amaro in what was a wretched post firing interview. Even when one is fired it is seldom you have to sit next to the boss firing you and say anything. We still think the picture of Charlie with his teeth displaced caused the final issue, but when Sandburg showed up last year the cards were dealt. I won $100.00 that Charlie would be gone by the end of the season.

But you know what Jimmy Pop Up says it is a new “window”. WAIT, has anyone seen Dave Montgomery??The face of the winning Phillies, he should hide in shame. Don’t worry Amaro they will let us hate you, blame you, call you names and then you as a mediocre ball player and a less than that manager you will be fired also. Hey, Dave let’s get on the ball. You’re set for another loss of ten thousand seats in spring.

I thinking a good thing to do. You offer the guy that managed your team in arguably the era of Phillies baseball a job. It is the right thing to do and in reality have little to no effect on the outcome of what the team does. It is a respect thing

I sincerely hope that Charlie will come back.l It;s not the same without him. He will always be a part of the Phillies nation. I hope for the sake of the fans, (not the front office) that he will accept the position.
